WCW Starrcade 1996 Results and Review

WCW Starrcade 1996

Here we go, another review that I can guarantee is better on VHS than on the WWE Network. Regardless, here is my take on the event as it was. Today, we’re talking about WCW Starrcade 1996, and all of the ups and downs that occurred.

The event took place on December 29, 1996. I tweeted at Eric Bischoff about this event, and he tweeted me back, because I mentioned how great the opening match was. The attendance on this show was 9,030 at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium. This was the last PPV event for the 1996 year, and over on the WWF side, they had a crappy In Your House. Now, let’s see how well this event came through, with a few notes of interest.

WCW Starrcade 1996 Results

Ultimo Dragon defated Dean Malenko for the WCW Cruiserweight and J-Crown Championship
Akira Hokuto defeated Madusa for the WCW Women’s Championship
Jushin Thunder Liger defeated Rey Mysterio Jr.
Jeff Jarrett defeated Chris Benoit in a NO DQ Match
The Outsiders defeted The Faces of Fear in the WCW World Tag Team Championship match
Eddie Guerrero defeated Diamond Dallas Page for the WCW United States Title
Lex Luger defeated The Giant
Roddy Piper defeated Hollywood Hulk Hogan

WCW Starrcade 1996 Review

Ultimo Dragon defeated Dean Malenko for the WCW Cruiserweight and J-Crown Championship

This match was a great example of how to turn on the heat in a Cruiserweight title match. Dragon was flying around the ring and Malenko was trying to stop him. Overall, he wasn’t able to get the Japanese and Lucha star to go down, and in the end, after around 20 minutes, this match was in the books with Dragon being the new champion.

Akira Hokuto defeated Madusa for the WCW Women’s Championship

Madusa was awesome, and didn’t get her dues, I think. Hokuto put on a show here, putting the boots to Madusa, and eventually getting the win. Madusa looked to be legit hurt in this match.

Jushin Thunder Liger defeated Rey Mysterio Jr.

Talk about another classic, Jushin Thunder Liger and Rey Mysterio Jr. in their prime! This was a 15 minute match that was very much back and forth. There was a little confusion on the finish, but overall, this is an instant classic. This is a great example of how to throw down a cruiserweight match, just because. The crowd got into it with the escalation of moves.

Jeff Jarrett defeated Chris Benoit in a NO DQ Match

Not a great match. Didn’t really care for this one, but hey it was ok, I guess.

The Outsiders defeated The Faces of Fear in the WCW World Tag Team Championship match

The Outsiders put the boots to the Faces of Fear, and won this match in about 15 minutes. It wasn’t that good. Hall and Nash were not putting in a lot of work in these matches, and well it showed. There were a few moments of interest, but overall, this wasn’t a great showing for the tag titles.

Eddie Guerrero defeated Diamond Dallas Page for the WCW United States Title

You would think that these two guys would have more chemistry, but it wasn’t to be had, yet. This was a boring affair, with Eddie Guerrero getting the big win. I didn’t really think that these guys hit their stride until 1998, but hey, that’s just my two cents. \

Lex Luger defeated The Giant

No, Luger didn’t rack the Giant. This is the BIG SHOW, by the way, and he’s awesome. The Giant was awesome back then, and this match shows. Luger and Giant put on a good match, with Giant even getting a top rope move in. Great stuff from Luger, selling for Giant, and well, this was a fun match to watch.

Roddy Piper defeated Hollywood Hulk Hogan

The crowd went nuts for this match. It’s what you would expect from two 40 something year old men. Overall, a good brawl, but after about 15 minutes, Hogan was put to sleep. This wasn’t for the title, but the crowd went ballistic when Piper won by submission.

Overall, WCW Starrcade 1996 wasn’t a great PPV, but it had some solid performances. The cruiserweight matches are well worth watching, and the last two matches are a lot of fun overall. Sting was in the rafters, and well, that ended WCW’s 1996. A good year if you ask me, and this PPV was better than a lot of the WWF stuff that was going on, although it would flip.

I recommend buying WCW Starrcade 1996 on VHS here, instead of the WWE Network, as the Network has butchered the music, and edited the fans signs, and more.

WWE Monday Night Raw February 20, 2017 Results and Review Bring In The Clowns

Kevin Owens Opened Up Raw This Week
Monday Night Raw was live from my home area, but I am now living in Indiana, so I couldn’t get to it. I didn’t want to review things this week because someone in my work life told me that I suck at writing. This was the second week in a row that someone said I sucked at what I did, and it made me want to quit my job. I’m back to writing though, so here we are, talking about Monday Night Raw.

Neville and Jack Gallagher signed their WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match contract
Nia Jax def. Sarah Pierce

WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens def. Sami Zayn
Braun Strowman def. Big Show

WWE Monday Night Raw February 20, 2017 Review

WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens addressed Goldberg and his betrayal of Chris Jericho

Send In The Clowns. That’s all I can say about this. Ok, I did like it, but I’ve heard it before. Curt Hennig said the same exact same thing about Goldberg. I was there live in the arena at Bash At The Beach 1998. Hennig said he had found the secret to beating Goldberg. That match lasted 3 minutes 50 seconds.

Enzo Amore and Big Cass def. Cesaro and Sheamus to become No. 1 contenders to the Raw Tag Team Championship

Enzo and Cass won here, but there were a lot of boos. It was sad. Oh, but Enzo and Cass win and will face off against the tag team champions at the PPV.

The Brian Kendrick attacked Akira Tozawa

This was boring. They would get a match at 205 Live. But this was boring to me.

Raw Tag Team Champions Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson def. Roman Reigns via Disqualification

Roman Reigns buried the tag champions. They did this so that the tag team champions look vulnerable against Enzo and Cass.

The New Day def. Rusev and Jinder Mahal

Did you think that Jinder My Balls was going to win? Neither did I. The New Day win, and promise that there will be ice cream at Wrestlemania.

Neville and Jack Gallagher signed their WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match contract

This was kind of cool, with Jack Gallagher winning out with a nice headbutt.

Nia Jax def. Sarah Pierce

A jobber match. I blinked and missed it.

Sasha Banks def. Charlotte Flair

This was a pretty good match, but you have to admit, Flair seems to not be able to win when the belt is not defended at PPV. Bayley didn’t give up her title, even though she won with cheating, and Flair and Banks put on a good match. I loved it. You loved it, let’s move on.
WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens def. Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn was beat down by Samoa Joe and that was the end. Owens pinned Zayn and that was all folks.

Braun Strowman def. Big Show

This was a very good big man match. Shoeman was able to beat down Show, but not without Show giving everything he had against the guy. Shoeman impressed me here, but I can’t wait for him to get buried at the PPV.

Overall, Raw was ok. It didn’t hold my attention nearly as much as I would of liked, but it was good. I liked it.

WWE Smackdown Live Tuesday February 14, 2017 Results and Review Super Bray Wyatt

WWE Smackdonwn Live came and went on my birthday. I noticed that NO ONE on social media wished me a happy birthday, and that was a bit lame. That happens, though, you get ignored a lot when you’re me. This show was predictable at times, and at others, not so predictable, but with some good flow. Here is what went down and some ideas on what I thought about it.

WWE Smackdown Live Tuesday February 14, 2017 Results

American Alpha def. The Ascension
Baron Corbin savagely attacked Dean Ambrose
Mickie James def. Becky Lynch
WWE Champion Bray Wyatt def. John Cena and AJ Styles in a Triple Threat Match

WWE Smackdown Live Tuesday February 14, 2017 Review

There are a lot of pundits that will tell you this show is better than Raw, but I absolutely do not believe that. Not only was this week’s Raw a little better, it had more overall wrestling, and it shows. Just look at this line up that people paid up to 400 dollars a ticket for.

American Alpha def. The Ascension

American Alpha is about exciting as a mayonnaise sandwich. These guys are great athletes, no doubt, but without a lot of great teams to work with, they are just boring. This match was predictable, and boring. The only highlight was the USOS doing a pre-taped video to disrupt their celebration.

Baron Corbin savagely attacked Dean Ambrose

Dean Ambrose was supposed to fight James Ellsworth, but he never got to the ring. Corbin showed up and beat him down. Perhaps Corbin will win the IC title.

Mickie James def. Becky Lynch

A rematch from the PPV and I already knew that James would get her win back, and it happened. Mickie James worked well here, Lynch did ok, but it wasn’t as good as their PPV match at all, and the ending came with Mickie James pretending to be hurt, only to get the last laugh.

WWE Champion Bray Wyatt def. John Cena and AJ Styles in a Triple Threat Match

Wyatt got beat down before the match, but he overcame it. Aj Styles and Cena threw together some good spots, as usual, but it was Bray Wyatt that is not being booked as super man, because he took a beating, and still came back to win here. Afterwards, Orton said that he didn’t want to fight Wyatt at Wrestlemania. Oh well.

This was a lousy show. It had very little wrestling, and a lot of random vignettes, and stories that don’t make a lot of sense to me. 205 Live had more wrestling, and more power, if you ask me. This was a waste of my time.

WWE Monday Night Raw February 13, 2017 Results and Review Why Have Logic Involved

Makes No Sense, But Oh Well, Why Not?
This week’s edition of Monday Night Raw was shown the night before my birthday. Good for me, right? I didn’t watch it until this morning and I don’t really understand some of the decisions that were made. Some of the logic is just not there at all, and others, well it’s there I guess. It’s entertainment, right? Well let’s see what I remember form the night that was, and see if you agree or disagree, or ignore, since no one really reads this blog, right? Oh well.

WWE Monday Night Raw 2/13/2017 Results

Roman Reigns def. Raw Tag Team Champions Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson via Disqualification
Kofi Kingston def. Bo Dallas
Jack Gallagher def. Noam Dar
Emmalina announced the makeover of Emmalina to Emma
Braun Strowman def. Mark Henry
Sami Zayn def. Rusev
Akira Tozawa def. Ariya Daivari
The Festival of Friendship descended into chaos
Cesaro def. Enzo Amore
Bayley def. Charlotte Flair to become the new Raw Women’s Champion

WWE Monday Night Raw 2/13/2017 Review

Roman Reigns def. Raw Tag Team Champions Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson via Disqualification

Roman Reigns buried the tag team champions, if you ask me. Others will disagree, but if you’re honest with yourself, you’ll know that Reigns is going to be the victor at Fastlane. He buries people, and according to Dave Meltzer, he’s not going to stop getting pushed, simple as that.

Kofi Kingston def. Bo Dallas

Bo Dallas gets buried again. Why can’t he become a part of the Wyatt Family? Why does Bo even have a job? I could do the same thing he does.

Jack Gallagher def. Noam Dar

Gallagher and Dar put on a mediocre job. It was a short match that was supposed to build to the Neville match coming on the ppv.

Emmalina announced the makeover of Emmalina to Emma

Emma is hot. I would rub one out to her.

Braun Strowman def. Mark Henry

Mark Henry was buried, and maybe it’s his turn to retire. Shoeman wins, did you think any different? Bored.

Sami Zayn def. Rusev

Rusev now getting buried by Zayn. Oh well, goodbye Rusev.

Akira Tozawa def. Ariya Daivari

Daivari gets buried here. Oh well.

The Festival of Friendship descended into chaos

“Why is my name on the list?” – Jericho. That was the line of the night, and Kevin Owens beat down his best friend in a very homo-erotic festival of friendship, so there you go folks.

Cesaro def. Enzo Amore

Enzo gets buried here. Wow, what a night to get buried.

Bayley def. Charlotte Flair to become the new Raw Women’s Champion

Now for the most illogical part of Raw. Bayley was set to lose this match, Charlotte got help from Dana Brooke, and it was supposed to be the end of Bayley. However, out came Sasha Banks and hits Charlotte with a crutch! She cheats, and Bayley wins, and celebrates. Charlotte loses the title, Bayley’s win is tainted, but who gives a crap, right?

Overall, Monday Night Raw was not a great show. It was ok. It dragged on for a long time, and the matches were not that great. I had to really focus my mind on the task at hand trying to watch this. I’m bored.

WWE Elimination Chamber 2017 Results and Review The Most Predictable Finish or The Fat Era

Steiner Says Bray Wyatt Is Fat. "HE'S FAT!" The Fat Era is here folks
Last night my wife made me a special dinner since my birthday is this week. She made me a steak, and an awesome chocolate and banana gluten free cake. It was special, and that made this night of wrestling a bit more special too. It's been a long time since I've been made to feel special, so I cherished the night.

WWE Elimination Chamber 2017 Results

Mojo Rawley defeated Curt Hawkins
Becky Lynch defeated Mickie James
Kalisto and Apollo Crews defeated Dolph Ziggler
American Alpha won a tag team turmoil match
Nikki Bella vs. Natalya ended in a double countout
Naomi defeated Alexa Bliss for the Women’s Championship
Bray Wyatt defeated John Cena, The Miz, Baron Corbin, Aj Styles, and Dean Ambrose in the elimination chamber match

Mojo Rawley defeated Curt Hawkins

I may be the only Curt Hawkins fan. I may be the only person rooting for the guy, and loved his vignettes. Mojo wins this match, in a hard hitting affair, that was in the pre-show. It wasn’t terrible. It was fun for an opener, and it really made me wish I lived closer to the event, as I would’ve gone, no doubt.

Becky Lynch defeated Mickie James

Mickie James should’ve won this match. This was a pure wrestling match, folks. I loved how well this went, even though I didn’t love the ending. James and Lynch work really well as pure wrestlers, no doubt. This match went well, although the crowd seemed dead for it.

Kalisto and Apollo Crews defeated Dolph Ziggler

Dolph Ziggler got super cheered here. He beat down Kalisto up front, then ran down and beat up Apoloo Crews, but Kalisto came back to beat him. But of course, Ziggler got mad and grabbed a chair and beat the two guys up. But here’s the kicker, the crowd was chanting “Thank You Ziggler”.

American Alpha won a tag team turmoil match

I didn’t like this match. Rhyno and Heath Slater should’ve won this match. The crowd was going absolutely nuts for this. American Alpha would get beat down by the Uso brothers, but the Ascension would come out to clean up the bones. Nope. American Alpha win, even though they were dead after the Usos. I didn’t like this booking, but hey, it is what it is.

Nikki Bella vs. Natalya ended in a double countout

This was a fight. A great fight, with Natalya proving that she’s amazing. Nikki is vastly improved, but these two women just got into a fight that ended in a countout. In the backstage area they fought more, and Maryse got embarrassed. So maybe that will set up a match? I don’t know. I know, it seems odd, but if you watch the show, you’ll see what happened.

Naomi defeated Alexa Bliss for the Women’s Championship

Naomi deserves this so much, and the crowd was chanting it. She is awesome. Her timing is great, Bliss seemed rattled, and Naomi felt the glow, and won big. I loved this match, and the crowd was going nuts for her win. Naomi, wow, what a victory. I’ve not felt so proud of a wrestler in a long time, this was great.

Bray Wyatt defeated John Cena, The Miz, Baron Corbin, Aj Styles, and Dean Ambrose in the elimination chamber match

Bray Wyatt won in the most predictable chamber match. I saw on Twitter that people were so astonished about this. I wasn’t. I called it. Every podcast, and every dirt sheet said it would happen, and that’s it. Bray Wyatt wins, and is the new champion. I don’t care. You didn’t care, Corbin looked like a chump getting rolled up for the loss, by the way. I didn’t care for this main event. Oh, and the chamber has been redesigned to look soft. SAWFT! Lame. That was that.

Overall, I’d give this PPV a solid C plus. I had some fun, but it wasn’t as great as the Royal Rumble for me, so that’s that. I know, not a popular opinion.

WWE 205 Live Results and Review January 31, 2016 No Showing

I tried to get the results from WWE.com as to their 205 Live show that I saw this week, and this page came up empty.

Apparently, WWE doesn't think a show happened, so I cannot review.

Well, I can, but I don't want to try and rewatch it or go to another site. A lot of WWE related sites have banner ads and pop ups, and even with a blocker, they ruin my day.

I do remember Noam Dar not saying Alicia Fox.

I also remember that there was a LOT of mat wrestling, for a show that claims there's a lot of action. Oh well. Such is life, right?

You didn't see it, did you?

WWE Smackdown Live January 31, 2017 Results and Review How Is This A Better Show?

You Know You Thought This After That First Segment
I’m constantly told that Smackdown is a better show than Raw. All of the podcasts seem to be pushing that notion, but honestly, this week didn’t feel that way at all. In fact, I had to fight myself from falling asleep. There are some nice highlights, I guess, but overall, this is not an A show if you ask me. Here are my thoughts on this week’s Smackdown Live showcase for the end of January.

WWE Smackdown Live January 31, 2017 Results

The Wyatt Family confronted John Cena
Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton def. John Cena and Luke Harper
Carmella def. Delilah Dawson
Dolph Ziggler def. Kalisto
Naomi and Becky Lynch def. Alexa Bliss and Mickie James
Chaos broke loose before SmackDown Tag Team Champions American Alpha’s open challenge ever began
AJ Styles def. Dean Ambrose

WWE Smackdown Live January 31, 2017 Review

The Wyatt Family confronted John Cena

Same OLD SHIT. That’s all I will say about this.

Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton def. John Cena and Luke Harper

This match had some potential, but you know what? I’ve already seen Cena trade blows with Orton and Wyatt. He already buried Bray Wyatt, and he’s fought Randy Orton so many times that this just felt old. Luke Harper was good, and they keep teasing his full turn on Wyatt, but I think there’s a double cross brewing.

Carmella def. Delilah Dawson

Delilah Dawson is awesome! I follow her on Twitter. I was marking out bro. Ok, aside from that, Carmella won with a little assist from James Ellsworth. Ellsworth is one lucky bastard, and I would give a lot up to get a chance to hang around with the WWE crew, and Carmella…how you doing?

Dolph Ziggler def. Kalisto

Quick match, didn’t do anything but buy Kalisto. Why isn’t Kalisto in the cruiserweight division? Why even have a division, just unleash all the guys into storylines where they can get buried, seems to be the norm with WWE.

Naomi and Becky Lynch def. Alexa Bliss and Mickie James

Not a bad match for the women. However, I am tired of hearing about the divas revolution, as this was a showcase of DIVA style booking. The match was fine, there were some good moments, including Bliss showing off how athletic she is. Naomi’s offense is awesome, and Lynch is always fun to see. James, wow, the veteran was great selling, but she’s been ineffective since coming back to the WWE. Why have her just get buried out right? Oh well.

Chaos broke loose before SmackDown Tag Team Champions American Alpha’s open challenge ever began

The tag team division went from one of the best parts of the show, to being dead in the water. Heath Slater and Rhyno were getting 18,000 plus people cheering for them, but instead of letting them keep the titles, they’ve given them to a couple of guys with great potential, but that are not over at all. The Usos came back, as thugs, which was cool, but come on, let’s be honest, this sucks.

AJ Styles def. Dean Ambrose

A good overall television match, if you like these two together. I don’t think that this match should’ve ended the way it did. WWE has a way of making their champions look terrible. Dean Ambrose is supposed to be a champion, but here he is losing to Styles, clean, without the title on the line. I didn’t like it. According to The Wrestling Observer, Dean doesn’t even have a match going into Mania at all, and well, he may not get on the show. What a way to use the guy, oh well. This match was worth checking out if you missed Smackdown, but honestly, there’s nothing to tell here.

Overall, Smackdown was not the A list show. It was a boring hour or so, since I watched it on Youtube. Hulu has it, but it wasn’t updated by the time I watched it in the morning. So there you have it, your review, of sorts. I’m tired.
