WWE Smackdown 5/5/2016 Results and Review Making The Good Brothers Look Weak

Here we go, the other flagship show for the WWE, and something that I just am now getting around to watch and review. Opening up the show was Chris Jericho. The Highlight Reel opened up with Sami Zayn, and Jericho called him a sore loser. The Miz came out and cut a promo on Sami Zayn. All images, by the way, owned by WWE.

Sami Zayn versus The Miz

This match was entertaining to watch, with lots of action between both men. However, Kevin Owens came down to ringside, eventually interfering, then out came Cesaro and the match was called when everyone started brawling. Cesaro was left standing tall with the Intercontinental championship. No finish here, no winner, just a thrown out match up.

The Vaudevillains defeated The Social Jobbers

This match ended fast. It was a fast paced match, with the Vaudevillains burying The Social Jobbers. That’s about it. I love the Vaudevillains gimmick. The guys can work, and despite that mistake at Payback, they still deserve a push and am glad to see them getting such a heated reaction. After the match, Cass came out and it was rad, the crowd was all over it!

Curtis Axel got into the ring and tried to be Enzo, but for his trouble he got beat down, and that was the end. Great promo, Cass is awesome, Enzo is great, the Vaudevillains are great, and man, the crowd was all over this mess. Great stuff, Cass is way over, Axel is not, the Social Jobbers lose more, and yet they still have a job while Sandow doesn’t. What a bunch of BS.

Becky Lynch and Natalya defeated Emma and Charlotte

Where’s Sasha Banks? That’s the first thing that I considered when this match was announced. Not only that, I couldn’t help but consider that the DIVAS revolution hasn’t really garnered much. Did you know that Revolution means a circle? Think about that for a second. Anyways, we got a pretty good tag match here, and I wonder how long it will be before we get a women’s tag team championship. This was a really good match between 4 competitors that are vastly improved over the previous generation of women. Emma impressed me in this one, taking on a lot of punishment and giving out a lot of fight as well. Natalya got the win for her team after putting Emma into the sharpshooter. Great match, but still, where’s Sasha Banks?

Rusev defeated Zack Ryder

Rusev took on Ryder and put the boots to him. Rusev did get thrown into the ring post and got a nice goose egg on his forehead, but other than that, Ryder got beat down the hard way. He lost via submission. Kalisto came out after the match and hit a few shots before running. Rusev is most likely going to win the U.S Title, thanks to Ryback leaving and going home crying about money.

Goldust and Fandango danced backstage alongside R Truth and Tyler Breeze. Must be nice to get paid to just dance around and do nothing.

The USOS Vs. The Good Brothers (No Contest)

Ronallo called the Bullet Club guys, “The Good Brothers”, so there’s that. Roman Reigns no longer comes out of the crowd, which I just noticed, because I’m dense. This match has happened several times already, or at least it feels as though it did. Fascinating how things move forward, or backwards, or repeats on Smackdown. Jason Solomon of Solomonster Sounds Off Podcast said it best, if it happens on Smackdown, it never happened.

Let’s take a moment to look at two tag teams that The Good Brothers attire reminds me of. They are The Nasty Boys and Disorderly Conduct, two teams that have similar outfits, suffice to say that I hate the white sleeveless coats.

As for the match, the Good Brothers should be dominating, and beating down teams, but not here. They were getting beat up systematically by The Usos. Anderson kicked Reigns, and the match was thrown out as Aj Styles and Roman Reigns got involved, which led to everyone getting separated after a brawl in ring.

The Usos and Roman Reigns defeated Aj Styles and The Good Brothers

After the first match was thrown out, a rematch from Raw was booked. Of course, this match made Roman Reigns look strong, and Aj really works well with him. Taz put it best, Styles is a very professional guy, and he is incredible, I agree. He can really make Roman look strong, without letting himself get buried in the process. Anderson got speared out of his boots, and of course The Roman Empire wins, and the boos come pouring in. Fun match, great moments, but come on, another Reigns win? Oh well.

Overall Rating: 7 out of 10 - good matches, a little filler, nothing terrible though, solid.

WWE Smackdown 4/28/2016 Results and Review The Last Stop Before Payback

Aj Styles Is Part of The Bullet Club
The last stop before Payback was paved with matches on Smackdown, and an opening that had none other than Roman Reigns. As soon as his music hit, the crowd went into a lot of boos, but perhaps they were saying Boo-urns? Boo-Urns?

Anyways, this night on Smackdown started with a Roman Reigns promo that was interrupted by The Miz, and for his troubles? A punch in the mouth and a challenge. Roman Reigns left standing tall, as it were, and Smackdown starts fast, and goes into overdrive before Payback this Sunday.

WWE Smackdown 4/28/2016 Results and Review

Sami Zayn, Kalisto, and Cesaro defeated The League of Nations via countout

This match wasn’t half bad. There were some quick tags here and there, and some nice offense on both sides. The League of Nations took on a lot of work load, punishing the smaller competitors. The best part here was the disintegration of the League of Nations. Everyone got into a shoving match, and Del Rio left first, then Rusev left, allowing for Sheamus to take on 3 other competitors! Watch for Cesaro running across the floor and nearly knocking Sheamus’s head off with a European upper cut. Holy crap! It nearly took out the camera guy as well! Sheamus couldn’t take on the 3, and eventually was counted out, and that was that. The end of the League of Nations.

Baron Corbin defeated Damien Sandow

It was nice to see Sandow getting a payday, but it was all for not, as he got completely buried by Corbin. He barely got any offense, Corbin delivered his moves, beat down Sandown and hit End of Days. Sandow still gets a pay check, but man, what a waste of talent WWE, what a waste.

The Ambrose Asylum Segment with Natalya and Charlotte

Not a great segment. Ambrose is ok, but I don’t understand why he’s a lunatic? He doesn’t really form that notion of insane like Brian Pillman or any other insane guys. Even Norman Smiley did a better insane gimmick when he was screaming Norman Smiley. Natalya and Charlotte went at it verbally, and I didn’t care. Perhaps I was just tired. I stayed up late last night, watching “How To Get Away With Murder”. I didn’t pick up the Ric Flair, “kill yourself” line which many people were talking about on Twitter, but hey, that’s what happens in post, right?

Enzo and Cass defeated The Social Outcasts (Jobbers)

This match was exactly what you’d expect before a pay per view event. Enzo and Cass did all the work, running around going through the motions of their duo’s offense. Curtis Axle showed up to fight, and that was interesting, but I couldn’t resist calling him Michael McGullicutty. The Vaudevillains showed up, of course to watch, and The New Day were on commentary. This match was entertaining, no doubt, and the commentary was funny too, but overall, it was obvious what this match was for and what would occur. That’s not to say it was bad, it was fast paced, lots of great action, and really showcased the Enzo and Cass duality. I liked it. Good stuff, just not that important overall. The Social Jobbers are still just that, jobbers.

Apollo Crews defeated Stardust

Another match from Raw on Smackdown, and you know how this one went. Stardust is reaching the limit of his gimmick if you ask me. This match showcased Crews as a stellar athlete, and dominant newcomer. He wins easily.

Roman Reigns defeated The Miz

This was a champion versus champion match, and it wasn’t half bad. Roman Reigns isn’t a terrible wrestlers, and The Miz really hung in there with the champion. The match was a good main event for Smackdown, and Aj Styles at ringside was great. This one really got my attention, with lots of back and forth, high flying, and fast paced mat wrestling. Reigns’ showing off his power was good, and this thing really boiled down at the end.

After the match the Bullet Club showed up as well as the Usos. The question was whether or not Aj Styles was in cahoots with the Bullet Club, and well, we found out! On to Payback! Predictions coming, and a new column is coming also Mondays, here at sirjorge’s wwe blog.

Overall Rating: 8 out of 10 for good wrestling, and less talking.
