ECW Hardcore Heaven 1995 Results and Review A Better VHS Experience

It took me a long time to finish this one. I couldn’t just power through it, but I wanted to make sure that I started reviewing all the ECW events I could get my hands on. Now, I owned the original releases from RF video and from boot legs that I traded for. ECW Hardcore Heaven 1995 is an event that featured great wrestling, some hardcore, and some not so hardcore elements. If you see this on WWE Network, you will NOT get the real crowd reaction nor will you get the music. It’s heavily edited. This event occurred on July 1, 1995 and had 1,150 people in attendance at the ECW Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was a super card, and was NOT on pay per view.

The Dudley Brothers defeated The Pitbulls

This wasn’t the Dudleys that you remember today. This was the initial introduction and they weren’t really good. The Pitbulls were massive, over, and put the boots to the Dudleys in this one. However, the two exchanged brawling elements before the Dudley’s number game caught up with the Pitbulls. Not a great match, but definitely an interesting starter.

Dino Sendoff and Don E vs. Chad Austin and The Broad Street Bully (no contest)

The crowd was really letting these guys have it, until 911 showed up and choke slammed everyone to oblivion.

Hack Meyers defeated Big Malley

A forgettable match, nothing special here.

2 Cold Scorpio defeated Taz

Taz looked great here. His suplexes are so crisp, great work from him. Scorpio picked up the win, and I can’t help but remember Flash Funk and how the WWE really missed the boat with him. Scorpio picked up the win with high flying moves that predate a lot of the style that you see today. Taz, wow, dude just has such quick suplexes, this wasn’t a classic, but it was definitely a good match.

Raven and Stevie Richards defeated Tommy Dreamer and Luna Vachon

This was a fun match to watch. Luna Vachon is underrated in my book. Dreamer got a ton of offense, but would eventually cave to Raven and Richards. The Pitbulls made an appearance here, and it was just a brawl throughout the match before Raven and Richards got the win.

Axl Rotten defeated Ian Rotten (Taipei Death match)

This was just a brawl. The gimmick is that each participants hands were wrapped in tape and glass. It was brutal, but Axl Rotten would win. Not a good match folks. It was just blood and guts. ECW trademarks, I guess.

The Sandman defeated Cactus Jack (ECW World Championship Match)

Cactus came out with his arm wrapped in barbed wire. Sandman came out drinking and with Woman (Nancy Benoit). This match was nothing short of a cluster of missed time wrestling moves, and brawling. Sandman is not a technical great, and Cactus carried him through 13 watchable minutes of what you may call a wrestling match. Lots of cane shots, lots of barbed wire, lots of blood, and the classic Cactus Jack spots.

The Public Enemy defeated The Gangstas

This was a brawl with weapons. Overall, nothing grand, unless you really liked these two teams. People went through tables, lots of hard hits to the head with weapons, and eventually The Gangstas go down in a heap. The fans jumped in the ring and celebrated with Public Enemy to send everyone home happy.

Overall, this show wasn’t half bad. It’s not a great one, but it’s not a terrible match. If you liked WWE’s hardcore division or WCW’s hardcore title, then this is for you. It’s a cluster of violence, with a ton of plunder, and no real psychology. It’s a fun watch, but nothing that great. The post match celebration was memorable.

Overall Rating 5 out of 10

That’s it for ECW’s Hardcore Heaven 1995. While the WWE Network version is fine, I highly recommend getting the UNEDITED version. It's rare, out of print and hard to find. That has the original music, the original full length matches, uncensored commentary and more. It’s just better. Until next time, this has been another review of a classic card, from the VHS days.

The show opened up with Tiffany talking about how the roster will be split up by getting drafted to different shows.

Yoshi Tatsu & Goldust defeated Trent Berretta and Croft

This match was given some time and the most impressive guy was definitely Yoshi. He has some great wrestling timing, and he put on a good show. I don’t think his kicks look amazing, nor did his pin really look too legit, but I liked it as something important to check out. Apparently they are going to get a shot at the tag team championship! That’ll be interesting to see. Croft and Berretta (however you spell it) suck.

Ezekiel Jackson defeated Perry Wallace

This was just a jobber match. Ezekiel rolled through some random idiot. There wasn’t much to talk about here.

Shelton Benjamin cut a lame promo. He still doesn’t have mic skills, after all these years.

Shelton Benjamin defeated Vance Archer in a falls count anywhere match

This match wasn’t terrible by any stretch of the word. The two really put on a good heavy hitting match up. Shelton was busted open the hard way, and Archer seemed strong when using the outside to his advantage. Benjamin fought back and was able to slay the newcomer after a hard fought battle.

Final Thoughts

What can I say, I seemed to be counting down the days until this show is done…it kind of sucks…just sayin.

ECW on SyFy 2/2/10 Review

The Abraham Washington show started things off, and it was not that great. The crowd was booing all over this too.

Vance Archer defeated Shelton Benjamin

There’s no way of telling how good these guys are without getting tested. Well here was a good test, and both wrestlers put on a good overall match. It had a bit of everything for all walks of fans. This match ended with Archer stealing a win, but not without getting hit hard with Shelton Benjamin’s high flying offense. Archer stole it with a roll up and putting his feet on the ropes.

Yoshi Tatsu defeated Trent Barreta

This match wasn’t all that great, it was fast and just had Yoshi Tatsu winning another match. The crowd is getting a little more behind him and with Goldust by his side things could be bright for him in the future. The match was nothing major to write about, it had its moments, but nothing too crazy.

Vince McMahon came out and said that ECW will go off the air in 3 weeks! It’s the end of ECW on SyFy. McMahon said a new show will replace it. Dang…Ecw is dead.

Gregory Helms was going to interview Ezekiel Jackson, but instead got beat up by Regal and Jackson. Lame segment, obviously punishing Helms for getting arrested. There was a sick shot in there, looked real to me. Christian came down with a kendo stick to save the day.

Christian vs Zack Ryder (no contest)

This match was actually not half bad, but it managed to lose steam when Ezekiel Jackson interfered and beat up Christian. I didn’t really like this match’s ending but it was a nice preview of what maybe to come…if there’s even an ECW title.

This show opens up with Kozlov calling out Ezekiel Jackson. The Boredom begins…no wonder this show is getting canceled. Regal stopped them from fighting, and then Shelton Benjamin came out to get a chant of “Let them fight” going. All in all I was readily bored.

Vance Archer defeated Tommy Dreamer

Tommy Dreamer is still employed? What the heck? Well, Tommy Dreamer gave Vance Archer a run for his money, at least momentarily. The match was somewhat short, but it was Archer who continued to win on WWE television. I still am not buying his character.

Trent Barreta and Caylen Croft defeated Two Jobbers

This match was lame. These two are the future of WWE tag teams? I’m going to need some time to grow on them. These two put on a standard little man tag match…nothing too complicated, that’s for sure.

Yoshi Tatsu, Christian, and Shelton Benjamin defeated Ezekiel Jackson, Kozlov, and William Regal via countout

This match had a god flow to it. The evil three isolated Shelton Benjamin for most of the match up. But eventually Yoshi got in there and then all hell broke loose. However, at one point Kozlov decided to leave his partners, and eventually led to a countout as Jackson ran out to get him.

ECW is on the way out, and you know what?

I don’t care.

The show started with the Abraham Washington show, and it wasn’t all that great. I don’t understand why this crap continues to pollute ECW. Remember when ECW (on wwe) was pure wrestling and that they intentionally put in hardcore matches, lesser production, and what not? Oh well. Those days are past.

Goldust defeated William Regal

Goldust has been a mainstay, low carder, on this show and I have to wonder if the WWE just doesn’t see him as a good investment on the other shows. He’d feud well with anyone, and he could push that “homoerotic” thing he did with Razor Ramon back in the day. But alas, he’s getting matches with Regal. Regal started the match getting pummeled, but he managed to turn things around and get this into a more slow match. The outside drama overshadowed the in ring work, and it looks like Ezekiel Jackson is still on his way out of the trio, as Goldust was able to pin William Regal somewhat cleanly.

Trent Barreta & Caylen Croft defeated two jobbers

This match sucked. These two guys are nobodies right now, and they are a tag team. Tag teams don’t last, and without some serious competition, I don’t care.

Shelton Benjamin & Christian defeated Ezekiel Jackson & Kozlov

You can always bank on Benjamin and Christian to put on a good show, and they made this match interesting. Whether they were bumping for the big guys, or unleashing some high flying offense, those guys were pushing a good match out of the buffoons that are regal’s body guards. This match was interesting for what it was, but overall it didn’t really move forward anything too interesting. The Regal dudes managed to work together, for the most part, despite blind tags. Ezekiel Jackson, after some missteps from Kozlov, walked out on his partner and left him for dead. Benjamin and Christian won this match, and it just proves that Jackson is going to be doing things on his own.

Alright, we are back in black of sorts, CM Punk shows up to his old show and promises a good time. This is ECW from Philadelphia!

Zack Ryder in ring talks about Rosa and then out came Shelton Benjamin. Nothing too extreme happened, unless you count Shelton Benjamin on the mic…now that’s extreme. Nothing happened other than a match will probably take place between them, yet again, at a later time.

Hurricane defeated Paul Burchill

Hurricane cme to wrestle, and it showed, he was all over Burchill, throwing out all his offense early on and proving that he’s still as high flying as he was in previous yeas. Just “different” now, and fat, right? That being said, this match had a lot of back and forth action, with Burchill getting some great moves in, but it was Hurrricane that impressed with a huge top rope neck breaker to win this thing and now guess what? Paul Burchill’s career is over! Fire that fool..this was mask vs career.

Vance Archer defeated Johnny Andrews

Vance Archer beat up another jobber, this match wasn’t worth much, unless you like squash matches.

CM Punk & William Regal defeated R Truth & Christian

This match seemed to have started late in the show, but even with that, they seemed to put together a good overall match up. Christian and Truth were definitely doing their fast paced offense, while Regal and Punk were slowing things down towards the middle of the match. They isolated R Truth and focused on his knee, and it looked like the beginning of the end for him. Despite getting the hot tag, and getting into the match late, Christian wasn’t able to overcome the odds and after a huge GTS was out cold. CM Punk got the pinfall, and won this match for his team.

Overall a rushed ECW, but hey, it wasn’t terrible. No Abraham Washington.

ECW on ScyFy 11/10/09 Review

The night started with the Abraham Washington show, to a warm chorus of boos. Washington’s guest was none other than Yoshi Tatsu! He got somewhat of a good pop from the English crowd. The show was ok at best.

Goldust defeated Paul Burchill

Goldust was getting worked throughout the match up, and it seemed like Purchill was going to get an easy win. He was hitting hard, and hitting some big power moves. However, Goldust got an assist from The Hurricane, and hit the Final Cut to get the win. The match itself was nothing to really write home about, but I’m glad to see Goldust get a victory. They could definitely use him a lot better, but we’ll see if this is a momentary push, or a long term plan.

Vance Archer defeated Jason Blackwell

There’s not much to say about this match. Another squash match, a normal thing for the WWE in these modern times. I wasn’t impressed, just like I wasn’t impressed when Kozlov was doing the same thing, and look where he is now? A random sidekick.

Christian defeated William Regal

Regal has definitely lost a step or two, because Christian had this thing going far away from him at times, and it seemed like Regal was struggling to keep up. The match was slowed down by the hometown hero, pushing submission style wrestling instead of hitting power moves, to wind down the champion, and score a submission rather than a clean pinfall. Christian kept fighting back, even though it didn’t seem to be working to his advantage, as Regal kept pushing to wear down Christian. Regal did have some near falls, but it seemed like he was just trying to tire out Christian, and nothing more. This match was getting good for sure, as Christian wasn’t able to put away Regal with ease, and Regal kept fighting. Despite the match’s length I started to really enjoy how it was working out. Regal hit his knee to the head, and I thought this thing was over, but nope. Christian managed to pull out a good victory, a hard fought title defense, proving again that he’s not a transitional champion.

Christian was in ring and talking about Regal. He was calling out William Regal and Regal came out to oblige. However, the general manager wasn’t really having it, and she was trying to stop the two from colliding. William Regal is offered a title shot and turned it down, saying that he’s in control not Christian. Regal eventually folds and will get a title shot when the WWE goes to England. I was bored, and didn’t care.

Post interview, Christian dropkicked Regal and we cut to commercial break.

William Regal defeated Goldust

Goldust put on a great match in this one. He was in control for the most part. He had Regal’s number for the whole match, and I for one actually started seeing that old Goldust, the one that was an Intercontinental championship contender. However, all that was put on hold, and buried, because Regal hit his running knee and knocked out the golden one with ease and won the match cleanly.

Shelton Benjamin defeated Zack Ryder

I definitely felt that I’ve seen this match before many times. However, I couldn’t remember off the top of my head when. Zack Ryder was distracted by Eve, and it cost him However, before that, Benjamin was putting on a demo reel of his footage because he had this match well in time and tuned up to showcase his natural wrestling talents. Shelton Benjamin, if he could get better on the mic, should definitely be chasing a title, he’s that good in ring. Ryder? Well, he’s distracted by Rosa? I already forgot which diva it was…cause I’m lame.

Paul Burchill yelled at The Hurricane about being a fraud, and I noticed again that Hurricane is getting fat. Maybe I’m getting fat too? Man…I need a job.

Vance Archer defeated Logan Jones

Lance Archer (I think he was previously Lance Hoyt) made his debut. Logan Jones got some cheers, which is interesting to see. Archer was just intense, an intensity that you don’t see with new comer wrestlers. He hit four moves and it was over, it was a classic debut, I liked it. He is just calm, and he executes perfectly, wow, that’s interesting. He might be a good addition, but I’d have to see him wrestle someone other than a jobber.

Yoshi Tatsu & Christian defeated Kozlov & Ezekiel Jackson

Yoshi Tatsu and Christian put on a good enough match to defeat the cronies that hang out with Regal. However, the match really didn’t have a lot of time to develop and seemed a bit rushed. While Regal’s team lost, Tatsu and Christian managed to compel the match to go their way with a series of moves.

After the match, Regal and his team of idiots beat up Christian, trying to hurt him before the title match next week.

Overall, ECW was ok. Regal’s mean streak is interesting to see. The intensity of the new guy was cool too, and the rest? It was alright. I liked how compact the show was, that’s for sure. A good overall ECW, nothing too harsh to say about it, that’s for sure.

Ecw on ScyFy 10/28/09 Review

The show started off with The Abraham Washington show. It featured the General Manager of ECW as guest, and it wasn’t all that good. William Regal came out and asked for a title shot, and she said no. Regal then tore up the Abraham Washington set, and that’s about it. The show got a new broadcast announcer, and I forgot his name. It’s totally a different voice than Matt Stryker.

Sheamus defeated Shelton Benjamin

Shelton might be the best pure athlete in the WWE, but he can’t talk on the mic that’s why he’s in midcard hell on the third tier show. He does have skills, and it’s a surprise he’s not used more in main story lines, he could definitely match John Morrison at times, and dare I say, even the Miz. Sheamus was taking it to Benjamin, hitting a lot of power moves and isolating the high flyer by putting on easy submissions throughout the match up. This match was given some time to develop and it wasn’t half –bad. Benjamin really got his bearings in the second half and it looked like Sheamus was going to get a loss instead of juts simply moving to Raw. The Gold Standard was really pushing to get a win, and maybe move up the ranks, and it wasn’t an easy task at all. But nope, a swift kick to the head and it was over. What a terrible ending, oh well. Sheamus is out of here.

Christian defeated Yoshi Tatsu

Yoshi Tatsu kept hitting his moves, kept pinning, kept moving, and this shocked the champion. Christian was definitely not prepared for Yoshi as his strategy changed slightly. At one point it looked as though Yoshi might have hurt his leg legit, but Christian didn’t let him breathe or relax, coming off the top rope with a cross body block to keep the match going in his favor. Christian put on a show for the fans, going for his moves, but Yoshi wasn’t going to just be another opponent to succumb to Christian’s move set, he kept fighting, and that’s what made this match worth it. He just kept coming at Christian, no “face vs heel” nothing like that, they just kept wrestling; which made for a great match. The ECW champion seemed like he couldn’t put away Yoshi, but Yoshi was showing frustration too, and that frustration led him to nearly get pinned with a twist of fate like move. If you missed this match folks, you really missed a good one, as both men couldn’t put one another away…until the Killswitch was engaged! Yoshi gets defeated by the champion, but what a match, it’s a rarity in WWE.

Abraham Washington started the show off, and was interesting. It was only interesting because Chris Jericho walked by interrupting the show. The whole beginning segment was made cool because of Y2J, but why is he on ECW? Interesting.

Yoshi Tatsu defeated Zack Ryder

Zack Ryder and Yoshi Tatsu battled it out to see who would get an ECW title shot, and it was interesting at the start. The two newer members of the WWE roster have actually been better than many other talents that WWE has tried to develop, but they aren’t major hits, like many others. There was a small, but visible Yoshi Tatsu chant midway through the match, which was good, and he definitely had some good moves overall, he was starting this match out great. The match turned into a rest hold circus with Ryder putting on wear down hold after wear down hold to try and get this thing going in his favor. Yoshi kept reversing things and trying to sneak out of things. Yoshi eventually got a ton of offense in, and it was actually quite good, then followed up with a sweet springboard finisher to win this match up clean.

Jericho got a meeting backstage trying to get more talent for his team, but was essentially kicked out.

Sheamus vs A Jobber no contest

Sheamus defated a jobber with ease. I’m not a big fan of jobber matches, andthis match was terrible…but out came Shelton Benjamin to break things up, so the match was thrown out. Even Benjamin knew how boring this match was and broke into the place to show things up. A brawl ensued and wow, Benjamin looks ready to fight.

Paul Burchill was in ring talking smack about The Hurricane, then the real Hurricane showed up, and this was over. I’m sick of the Hurricane already, he’s fat.

Christian defeated Chris Jericho

Christian beat Jericho at Wrestlemania 19 in Seattle, so this match didn’t really catch my attention too much. Yes, these two can really put on a good match up, but it’s ECW, I’m tired and I don’t know, maybe there is just other things I could be doing…I kid. I still can’t believe Christian is on ECW and not main eventing a bigger show, especially since ditching TNA for WWE. Jericho had this thing working in his favor in the early goings of this match, putting in some good offense against the ECW Champion. However, Christian wasn’t going to just lie down and take it, and he started to fight back with some great moves. The second rope dropkick was picture perfect, proving that he’s not just some second tier champion. Even though Christian pushed things forward, it was Jericho that had things all figured out moving forward. Jericho was methodically punishing Christian with every step, until he gloated too long and couldn’t land the Lionsault on Christian. Christian then switched things around, moved towards finishing this match, hitting a spinning elbow off the middle rope, then going for the Killswitch! However, amidst Christian’s offense, Jericho nearly got the Twist of Fate, only to get countered and this match started to look like a little more than television fare. Jericho kept fighting and eventually did get Christian into the Walls of Jericho and this match looked as good as done for Christian. He managed to get to the ropes, and break things up, and then hit the Killswitch to garner him a stunning victory in this three star match up on ECW.

Ezeiel Jackson defeated Goldust

I think it’s a shame that in thee modern times the WWE can’t use Goldust as a main event player or at least a mid carder fighting for the championships. He could really play mind games with the likes of The Miz and others, really forcing things to be great. Remember his feud with Razor Ramon? Classic. Anyways, long gone is that and here he is wrestling Ezekiel Jackson. Goldust started his match strong, faster than the big man, and even smarter in ring as he was rolling away from most of Jackson’s onslaught of power moves. The match progressed and Ezekiel Jackson got the upper hand and he was definitely having his way with Goldust, but after a few near misses, Goldust got back into it and was giving Jackson a run for his money, including many nearfalls with his classic move set of odd offensive maneuvers. Goldust hit the Flatliner, and I thought this thing was over, but while Kozlov distracted the ref, Jackson got his revenge and hit his finisher to defeated the golden one. Jackson wins a very weird match, where Goldust carried Ezekiel Jackson, despite his jobber status.

Sheamus came out and cut a promo about how he hates Shelton Benjamin and some other random crap. I don’t like this guy, and don’t know anyone that does.

This match, I could’ve sworn, already happened in pervious weeks. In fact, I remember seeing it before I moved from Washington to Idaho, ut oh well, such is life, I guess. It’s painfully obvious that Helms has gained some weight, he’s not in the same shape as the first time he was the Hurricane gimmick. He’s a little slower now, and his flexibility is also not what it used to be, and these things came into play with Burchill saving to slow the pace down, and looking incompetent in order to take some offense from Hurricane. Burchill has also let himself go a little, and while he’s still an effective wrestler, he is a little chunky, I’m just sayin. The match went from fast paced, high impact, to slow and boring, Burchill using a slew of rest holds to wear down both The Hurricane and his fans. Burchill kept working on Hurricane’s arm and eventually got a jackhammer in and pinned the super hero. Yep, another clean win, odd.

Christian & Yoshi Tatsu defeated Zack Ryder & William Regal

Yoshi Tatsu started this match against Zack Ryder and was looking quite good in this match up, he then tagged in Christian, and the momentum kept going forward for the good guys here. Ryder, with his spray on tan, was getting worked over by the veteran and his new friend, but the tables turned and he gained control over the ECW champion and was punishing him with some steady flurries of punches and kicks. Christian wasn’t going down though, and eventually hit his set of offense, including a baseball slide that hit Regal and Ryder at the same time, and he then followed that up with a cross body block over the top and onto both of his opponents. This prompted a commercial break.

After the break, Christian was still in control, this time Regal was the legal man, and it was the champion that was looking good in this match. Regal countered into a reverse lariat, and things were going well for him in the short term, eventually tagging in Zack Ryder, putting pressure on Christian. Tattsu at this point had not been involved in the match since the early moments, and start of the match, so things really needed to shift if the faces wanted to win. Christian got the hot tag and Yoshi mopped up with Ryder getting the brunt of the force. Yoshi’s rolling snapmare is really cool, but could be troublesome in the future. Ryder hit a sick neckbreaker, and this thing looked done. However, it wasn’t until Regal got back in that I started to doubt Christian and Tatsu’s winning ways. Regal has gained some weight again, but he’s still hitting quite hard in there, it’s interesting to see him wrestle against Tatsu, and still maintain his strong style of mat wrestling. Christian had this match sewn up after a tag, and had Zack Ryder reeling, but couldn’t quite put him away until he hit the spinning ddt, so I thought. This match was really getting good, with the standard melee going down on the outside, and Christian looking like he had this in the bag. Ryder turned on Regal and Christian got the Killswitch, winning the match up or his team!

Overall, tonight was a solid night of wrestling. I was surprised that there wasn’t a lot of talk, just a lot of wrestling. I liked it. ECW is gaining steam, but I don’t know if it can keep the momentum without repeating a lot of matches and feuds, but that’s WWE for ya, I guess.

ECW on ScyFy 9/1/09 Review

The show started with a match up, and away we go.

Shelton Benjamin defeated Zack Ryder

This match was starting off slow, but it picked up to a good pace. Ryder was using rest holds to try to ground Benjamin, but it was to no avail. The match started to pick up and Ryder looked stunned at the speed of Shelton, and eventually Shelton hit his finisher Paydirt, and it was all over. Benjamin pinned Ryder, even though Zack Ryder had some great spots, but he just wasn’t fast enough to block Paydirt.

The Abraham Washington Show was up after the break. Nothing major happened on the show, although Tony Atlas was laughing like Ricky Ricardo, and The Hurricane will face Paul Burchill next week.

Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov vs Jobbers

This was dumb. Mindless jobbers getting beat up by the big men, that probably can’t wrestle anyone else. Lame.

Post match Tommy Dreamer and Christian cleaned house with a kendo stick.

Shamus defeated Goldust in a No dq Match

This match was weird, it was NO DQ but it wasn’t necessarily a good match. Their previous matches were much faster, much better, and way more well timed. This match seemed sloppy to me. I must also note that this match came after a longwinded look back at HBK vs Undertaker from Wrestlemania. For a no dq match, there were sure a lot of rest holds utilized. This match was starting to bore me completely. Goldust managed to make this match somewhat entertaining towards the midpoint, but it was still sloppy, and I’m not sure what was wrong with these two competitors. This match sucked, lets face it folks, this was just a bad match. I got bored, you were probably bored, we were all wishing for something else, and it never really happened. Shamus hit the Irish Curse and it was all over. What a waste of time.

ECW sucked this week, I didn’t like it, but oh well.

ECW on ScyFy 8/5/09 Review

The Abraham Washington show started the show, and with all the jokes hitting a deadpan snore, out came Zack Ryder. Ryder made fun of Shelton Benjamin, and eventually he came out. Benjamin, Ryder, and Washington were now on the stage on the mic. The two ended up doing a singing contest? Such a lame opening, I’m tired. Then, amidst a rendition of “Only Want to be With You” by Shelton Benjamin, Zack Ryder attacked from behind, and then Shelton rushed him, throwing him through the couch, and I was finally marking out! Yes! There should be more fights, like this stuff.

Ezekiel Jackson defeated Another Jobber

This wasn’t a match. Ezekiel Jackson just mopped up a jobber, with incredible ease.

Post match Kozlov came down, stared down Ezekiel than dropped the jobber for good measure.

Shamus defeated Goldust

Goldust has been getting a lot more screen time on ecw and it’s interesting to say the least. He’s been looking in shape, and nearly in his prime. This math, however, had Shamus looking good including picking up a victory seemingly out of nowhere! Goldust was dominant early on, but Shamus ended up getting the upper hand, winning the match.

Post match, Goldust attacked Shamus.

Christian defeated Tommy Dreamer in an Extreme Rules Match

This match was a throwback to the old ECW days, in which the style of the match spilled onto the floor with the use of plunder being top priority. The two exchanged hitting each other with anything that wasn’t bolted down to the floor, and this favored Tommy Dreamer as he was the one that was getting the upper hand, and for once didn’t look winded right away. After a commercial break the tables had turned and Christian was looking dominant for once, and he was just punishing Dreamer with a kendo stick, a trash can lid, and anything else at ringside. This match took an interesting route towards the end, with Tommy Dreamer reversing some of the major offense that Christian usually gives. At this point this was easily the longest match on ECW in a long time. Christian ran at Tommy Dreamer with a car door, only to get knocked nearly out on a reversal. Tommy Dreamer then got hit with The Killswitch on a car door to lose to Christian! A car door folks…this match was extreme, and Christian retains the title!

ECW on ScyFy 7/28/09 Review

Tyler Reks defeated Paul Burchill

Paul Burchill is the new Brooklyn Brawler, for wrestlers today. Meaning that you have to wrestle Paul to see if you’re ready for a full time gig with WWE. That’s how they would measure you in the old days. Anyways, this match was interesting at times. Paul is gaining weight and is slowing down, it showed with Tyler Reks hitting fast moves for a big man. For a big guy he’s fast, really fast. He also uses the high flying stuff to his advantage, going for High Body Blocks off the top, and of course his finisher the Springboard Missile Dropkick. This time around he nearly messed up his own finisher, but he still hit it hard, dude can go, Tyler Reks is not half bad. Paul Burchill? He hit a few nice suplexes, but it wasn’t enough. Tyler Reks wins in his second match against Paul Burchill.

Kozlov defeated a jobber

Kozlov defeated a jobber. Yep, not much to say about that. I hate jobber matches, we’re a far cry away from WWF Wrestling Challenge on Sunday mornings. Kozlov wins with an easy match.

Shamus defeated Goldust

Shamus is extremely white, I’m not sure how he can maintain that on the road, but so far he has. Goldust was using his weight as an advantage, pushing Shamus around and forcing the match to focus on a harder style, but Shamus kept pacing himself, hitting basic moves to get the advantage on the veteran wrestler. Shamus somehow pulled this match off, and actually was quite impressive towards the end, beating Goldust with relative ease.

Christian defeated Zack Ryder

Zack Ryder wrestled Christian in the main event, and was actually putting on a half way decent match. This was made better due in large part that Ryder can go full speed, unlike Dreamer. Christian of course was putting the Boots to Ryder, with his standard set up of fast paced wrestling arsenal. Ryder was kicking out of a lot of heavier artillery from Christian, and it was interesting to note how this match was going, considering the champion wasn’t winning this one as easily as I’d have thought. Christian eventually hit the Killswitch and it was over. Christian wins a hard fought won.

ECW wasn't that great, but that last match was half way decent. Next week Christian and Dreamer Extreme Rules for the ECW Championship Belt!

The night immediately opened with a match, as it should. I hate the SCYFY name change, it just seems dumb to me. I wish Christian had a better push considering he left a top dog position at TNA to come back to wwe, only to job and get occasional wins over bigger guys. But it’s not worse than his oppnent…

Shelton Benjamin defeated Christian

Shelton went from having the U.S. Championship to being a jobber to being a jobber on ecw, just continual slide. Vladimir Kozlov came down to ringside and Christian got distracted. Shelton was definitely in control of this match, especially when considering that as we went to break, things were getting bad for Christian as Kozlov simply walked down to ringside and distracted him. Christian managed to get his bearings towards the end of the match with a nicely executed Missile Dropkick, but was favoring his shoulder and couldn’t simply put away Benjamin. Christian went to the top rope, but Shelton jumped up to meet him and hit a Top Rope DDT! A picture perfect move, and it seemed to be going wrong for Christian, and surely it was because a few moments later Benjamin hit Pay Dirt and won the match! I was surprised by this one.

Yoshi Tatsu defeated Paul Burchill

This match was all Yoshi, and it looked to be an ok match up. Yoshi was looking like a house on fire, but one slip up in the corner and things looked bad. Yoshi was going for a springboard but missed the top rope, slipped, and ran into Paul’s side suplex. Yoshi kicked Paul in the head and pinned him, he wins again. Yoshi isn’t half bad, it’s nice to see a new face on ECW.

Goldust defeated Zack Ryder

Zack Ryder sucks. Goldust? Well he hasn’t made it back completely. This match seemed like a b-show level match up. Goldust was fast, I haven’t seen him this fast in a while. He was in full control and showing off that he still had a lot of wrestling ability with picture perfect rope running, and picture perfect Japanese arm drags, you would think this was the heyday of mid 90’s wrestling. Ryder put on an ok show, but he seems to have lost a little weight, so maybe he’s on the juice. Goldust was slowed down mid match, with some rest holds, building up to something, sooner than later. In the end he would never recover Zack Ryder turned the momentum into a win, and Goldust is put into his place, losing again in the WWE.

Sheamus defeated Roman Cornell (jobber)

Sheamus is back in ECW, because WWE is desperately trying to make new characters stick. That being said, Sheamus just won with four moves and that was about it. Sheamus totally squashed the jobber, which is something that I’ve hated since I was kid…well maybe not too much when I was a kid cause I didn’t know better.

Kozlov defeated Tommy Dreamer

Tommy Dreamer got worked for the most part, Kozlov had a lot of offense that Dreamer couldn’t answer to. The Iron Curtain came down and Kozlov won. The match was slow moving, and I still think that Tommy Dreamer should retire. Kozlov slowly took apart Dreamer, and won with somewhat of an easy time.

Post match Christian ran down to fight Kozlov only to get beat up.

Overall ECW was fast and boring. I didn’t really like anything too much and I don’t think that it is moving into past jobber territory. I wouldn’t be surprised if ECW was no more within a year.

ECW was moved to Thursday, throwing a wrench into my schedule.

Nikki Bella defeated Katie Lea Burchill

The crowd was dead for this opener. If the highlight of a match is a hip toss, you know you’re in trouble. Brie jumped in an exchange and Brie gets the pin on Katie Lea. This match sucked.

Shelton Benjamin defeated Yoshi Tatsu

This was a match, unlike last week’s burial of Benjamin. Yoshi had his hands full with Shelton, as Benjamin was really putting on a clinic on Yoshi. Yoshi took a beating for a good portion of the match, and definitely wasn’t as wily as the veteran. Yoshi was hitting some major spots in this match, and was rather impressive for a new comer. Benjamin got back into the match with a nice release suplex. This time around it was Benjamin that hit Paydirt and boom. Yoshi impressed me, he should impress you…hopefully he doesn’t get fired.

Ezekiel Jackson defeated Jobber #3939

Jackson beat up some idiot. This match was lame. Ezekiel is on the juice. This match sucked. He wins…I hate jobber matches.

The Hurricane is back! Yep.

The Abraham Washington show was up next with Tommy Dreamer as the guest. Tommy Dreamer and Washington sparred verbally, but kind of boring.

Christian defeated Vladimir Kozlov

Kozlov put on a good match up, although calling it good is an overstatement indeed. Kozlov was slow in moving and did have some major shots, but overall lost when Christian hit the Killswitch. Kozlov is still way too slow for prime time, I’ll tell you that much. This match was a little boring, but it went through well enough to keep me entertained.

The start of ECW had the general manager talking about having new superstars thanks to Trump. Guess who got demoted? Shelton Benjamin!

Yoshi Tatsu defeated Shelton Benjamin

Yoshi Tatsu is an all new guy, he looked interesting, and Shelton was completely surprised. Shelton was making fun of Yoshi and then got hit in the head and it was over. Shelton jobs to Yoshi in a few seconds…what a terrible match. I want to wish Shelton his best on his future endeavors.

Abraham Washington has his own MVP style show. Washington is the latest ECW acquisition. Washington was playing up a comedian type show making fun of people. This segment was lame.

Shamus defeated Oliver John

These guys were nothing more than new jobber types. Shamus won, with some interesting power moves, but this guy was not great. I wasn’t impressed yet, and it really just seemed like a lackluster Ecw match, seriously.

Vladimir Kozlov & William Regal defeated Christian & Tommy Dreamer

This match was your standard tag match, it seemed painfully obvious that these four are the future of ECW and that’s a shame. They put together an ok match up, but nothing too crazy. Kozlov is still looking amateur at best, Christian and Dreamer worked well, but it just seemed so forced at times. Somehow, Regal pulled off a good overall match by getting the pin. The foreign movement in the heel department is evident in this match up.

This was the worst ECW I’ve seen in a long time.

ECW on Scifi 6/2/09 Review

Evan Bourne defeated Mark Henry via disqualification

This match was not what I expected. I personally am tired of seeing the underdog, over sized match ups. I don’t need to see this “David and Goliath” type match every week. That’s how you get your smaller guys injured, as is what happened with Rey Mysterio earlier on in his career. So this was a standard big man small man match up with Mark Henry beating the crap out of Bourne and Bourne trying to hang on for his big comeback. So Tony Atlas basically got fired on the Evan Bourne comeback attempt. He interfered and the ref disqualified him, so it seemed that Mark Henry was fired. Evan Bourne wins a very boring match by dq.

I’ll tell you what. The announce team on ECW sucks. There are a TON of pauses because they don’t know what to say and more often than not you have to just make up your own commentary, it’s starting to get annoying.

Zack Ryder defeated a jobber

Zack Ryder’s new gimmick is like Dj Gabriel and Alex Wright mixed, it’s like a parody of a parody and it sucks. You can’t beat Tokyo Magnum and Alex Wright, the dancers, come on! This match was dumb, I hate ECW sometimes, it’s nothing like the old ECW and it just sucks, this crap is lame. This match was a jobbers match and it just was no fun to watch. Oh and the announce team sucks so bad, I’m serious, it’s getting bad. I admit though, Ryder’s finisher is nice, but will he hit it on anyone besides jobbers? We’ll have to wait and see.

Tommy Dreamer defeated Paul Burchill

Who commented that Paul Burchill had something going? He just lost to a glorified jobber. It’s hilarious to see how crappy Paul’s luck is in ECW. Well this match had him beating up Dreamer for a good portion of the match, but like in many matches of this kind, Tommy Dreamer ended up winning in an epic comeback.

Christian defeated Tyson Kidd

Tyson Kidd and Christian put on a nice little show on ECW. It wasn’t extreme but it was a nice back and forth match up, and it really showed you how well Kidd could wrestle. He is quite the athlete and he has a nice set of moves and counters to match Christian’s title reign right now. He still seems young, and therefore there are mistakes in his moves and it cost him with the veteran catching Kidd in several moments, delivering power moves as a result. Christian played aloof a few times, but he just kept in there and it looked as though he was going to win this one. Swagger came down to distract a little and after a huge leg drop from the top rope, I thought he had won over Christian, but it wasn’t to be just yet. Tommy Dreamer came down to the ring to counter Swagger and he fought off the outside interference. Kidd and Christian tangled back inside but it was Christian with the kill switch that got the win for the ECW champion, in an instant classic match up.

Overall ECW was not bad, but the announce team was terrible. It’s like they just have one announcers not two, they need to just cancel ECW.

ECW on Scifi 5/26/09 Review

Jack Swagger was called out by Christian, who was in ring babbling about how his peeps know what’s up. Funny thing for me was that I saw Christians last match a few years back at Smackdown live! I was fourth row from the ring, paid like $300 bucks on ebay for the gold. So Jack Swagger comes down and rambles about how he wants to pick the match type. Tiffany comes down and I just think abut her nude…I’m weird. Tiffany decides to bring down Tommy Dreamer to the ring…awesome. Tiffany says that Dreamer will get a shot at the ECW title one last time before his contract expires in an extreme triple threat match. We’ll see how it goes at Extreme rules…which I won’t see cause I’m broke!

Kozlov defeated two Jobbers

Vladimir Kozlov defeated a random jobber. It looked like Kaos to me, from PWG, XPW and indie wrestling fame. It most certainly was Kaos! The other dude (the white dude) I had no idea who that was. Kozlov killed and that was that. It sucks to see Kaos get beat up with no offense, I’ve seen him wrestle in the indie’s and he’s actually god at times.

Evan Bourne defeated Mark Henry

This match was one sided throughout. It was easy to see who would win and I knew where the match was going at the get go. Evan Bourne got beat up for most of the match, then pulled a feather from his cap and won out of the blue miraculously. I’m not a big fan of the david vs goliath thing that we are seeing with Bourne, but I guess he’s just Rey Mysterio 2.0 at this point. Since Mysterio is injury prone maybe Bourne will jump in to fill that high flying role, since he’s younger and now slaying “giants”. Lame match.

Jack Swagger & The Hart Dynasty defeated Christian & Tommy Dreamer

This was such a boring match. DH Smith is so slow, he sucks and Tyson Kid had this match in slow motion for a lot of it. Man, even the announce team was silent for a lot of stretches in this match up. What a terrible match up, and really lack luster commentating team, randomly quiet and really just stupid. It’s like they did this show in post, and not live at all. By the time Christian got in with a hot tag, things started to pick up and I got interested again. The finish was Swagger winning with the gut wrench power bomb after sending Christian into the ring post…what a terrible match.

ECW was a terrible show, the WWE has everything on cruise control, because it’s not exciting and even the announcers are bored.
