WWE Smackdown 12/3/2015 Review

There was a lot of talking up front. The whole show was set up with Roman Reigns talking and the League of Nations coming out and setting up matches. Roman Reigns would take on the League if the tag match with his friends against the New Day went well. Otherwise, it was going to be Reigns against the League solo. Guess what happened?

Tyler Breeze defeated Neville

Tyler Breeze took on Neville in this one. Neville delivered a good amount of offense in this match against Tyler Breeze. Breeze is improving, but the narcissus gimmick is a bit tired for me. On the merits of the match alone, I liked it. Neville is a great performer, and Breeze used Summer Rae to ensure he got a quick win and distraction.

Brie Bella defeated Becky Lynch via disqualification

Brie Mode was all in with this match up. Lynch had Charlotte outside rooting her on. Becky Lynch lost, but only after Brie hit Charlotte and Charlotte jumped into the match to fight her. Lynch and Charlotte have another wedge between them, and it continues to build.

New Day defeated Usos and Dean Ambrose

The New Day usually gets cheered right? Well, I couldn’t help but noticed that there was a lot of piped in booing, which was definitely odd to me. Oh well. New Day got the win here as the numbers game started to rise up. They targeted one of the Usos injury, and that was that. This would set up the main event handicap match. Overall, however, this was a fast paced, fun match with the New Day winning over the team of the Usos and Ambrose.

Bray Wyatt defeated Devon Dudley

Before this match, the lights went out. When the lights came back on it was R Truth waving hello at people. Then the lights went out again and out came the Wyatt family. Devon still has it, he was able to hold his own against Wyatt. Wyatt of course gets the win to make it seem like he’s strong. After the match up, things went south and the Dudleys got beat down with Tommy Dreamer going through a table. Sad.

Roman Reigns defeated The League of Nations via count out

Ok, here we go. The main event was great. I loved it. People online were complaining because they read the spoilers, and it was dumb. No, Roman didn’t go over clean. He outsmarted the League this time around, and didn’t go the Super Cena route.

King Barrett got himself disqualified so he had to leave the ring. Roman Reigns was able to mount some offense and things spilled out to the outside. Then the count started, and Roman was able to get inside the ring before the 10 count finished and won via count out. He didn’t pin anyone, the League didn’t go down weak, it was a technical win, and that’s it. Afterwards there was a brawl and the two factions fought and that’s it.

Overall, Smackdown was great for me. I liked the wrestling here. Dolph Ziggler on commentary was fun. Smackdown had some good wrestling, and Reigns definitely is doing better, even if he’s taking a beat down. If you’re not watching Smackdown, you’re missing out on some good wrestling. I liked it. I really did. I guess I’m weird.

WWE Friday Night Smackdown 1/29/10 Review

The show immediately opened up with the Degeneration X music to quite the ovation, despite the team being somewhat watered down by comparison of their former unions.

Dx was in ring and was interrupted by Rey Mysterio and he talked to Shawn about how he’s disrespected. Then the straightedge society came out, and the crews exchanged words. Triple H buried Punk and his crew fast, and I’m not sure if I liked how Triple H verbally buried Punk.

Theodore Long came out and changed up the tag team match up, and made Punk vs Triple H and Shawn Michaels vs Rey Mysterio. This is what is called the “bait and switch” folks.

Triple H defeated Cm Punk via disqualification

Overall this match surprised me up front. Triple H was getting beat early on by a faster, younger opponent, and he seemed frustrated going into the commercial break. Punk used his speed to really try to get Triple H off his game, and he managed to get a lot of shots in on the former champion. At one point even looking like he had this match easily won. However, after a few mistakes by Punk, Triple H had this thing in the bag almost and was taking care of business. The match got serious, and Triple H was on his path to victory but Sarena distracted the ref, Gallows got involved and then all three members of the Straightedge Society attacked Triple H and had his number.

Post match, The Straightedge Society was set to shave Triple H’s head, but they couldn’t succeed as Shawn Michaels came out for the save.

I’m not sure I like the Straightedge Society, as a whole. I just have memories of Right to Censor, and just am wary that WWE will trash the stable as soon as they can, with Triple H going over yet again.

R Truth defeated Chris Jericho

Truth and Jericho apparently had words on Superstars, but I didn’t see it. This match was interesting to say the least, Jericho was definitely up to his game and really pushing forward in this match. He seemed to have that old school control that is apparent in veteran match ups. However, Truth was there to lighten things up in the other end, posing some great moves left and right, causing Jericho to shift off his slower methodical game, and making this match very interesting. Truth has some great timing and Jericho’s ring awareness makes him that much more fun to watch. Truth’s counter to the Codebreaker was great. He simply held onto the ropes, caused Jericho to fall on the back of his head, getting himself rolled up and losing this match up.

I liked that match, and the finish was so good. Frustrating Jericho into being the strong mic’d heel is great.

Drew McIntyre defeated John Morrison in a no holds barred match

It’s been a while since we’ve had a good falls count anywhere style match up. This match up was no holds barred, and no count out, not necessarily falls count anywhere. This match was more like a street fight, and the two really put together some good spots. Whether it was McIntyre getting hip tossed into the steel steps, or McIntyre hitting for the fences with the kendo stick, this match was more along the lines of an endurance competition than a wrestling match. Morrison’s back nearly broke when he hit starship pain on McIntyre’s knees! The Future Shock on the Intercontinental Title was a great finish and McIntyre has once again put away John Morrison. The finish was great, McIntyre gets my vote for deserving the Intercontinental title, that was a classic finish.

Michelle McCool and Layla really made things somewhat funny with another skit. Michelle McCool issued a challenge to any diva in the back for a match against her, and then Mickie James’s music hit and the crowd went nuts…only to have Layla come out dressed as Mickie James in a fat suit! This was kind of funny at first, but got boring fast with Layla chasing McCool, who was holding a donut in her hands.

It led to a throwaway match with fat Mickie James.

Rey Mysterio vs Shawn Michaels (no contest)

This was a ppv caliber match up. It didn’t start that way, it was a little slow to start, but it picked up and boy did it pick up. Mysterio was getting the upper hand with his speed and agility early on, and he was definitely not just laying down for Micheals, in anticipation for his match at the royal rumble. Michaels turned the tables and it seemed that he was going to get the easy win, but the tables turned fast and out of nowhere Mysterio hit the 619 on Michaels in the best 619 I’ve ever seen in my life. Mysterio then went up for the west coast pop but out of nowhere, I kid you not, Sweet Chin Music in mid air to Mysterio! This was insane, if you missed it you missed it, this thing was picture perfect, timed well, and just the best thing I’ve seen in a long time.

Batista ran in and interrupted things and the match was thrown out. Post match Triple H came down to spar with Batista, and out of the blue came The Undertaker to double chokeslam Shawn and Rey Mysterio.

Final Thoughts:

Finally, a solid show up and down. The opening and closing matches were quite good, despite their finishes. The in ring talent was up to snuff for sure. This was a greater show than the one a few weeks back, and it really was fun to watch.

The intercontinental title is once again a title to watch. Morrison and McIntyre really took themselves to a good spot and the finish was an old school classic, I liked it.

I am NOT getting the rumble, nor do I know where to see it. But my pick to win the Rumble is none other than Chris Jericho!

WWE Friday Night Smackdown 1/1/09 Results and Review First Smackdown of 2010

We are in a new year, and with that comes another year of wrestling updates here on the site that only 3 people read. I’ve redone the template, I’ve removed 6 ad spots, I’ve improved the loading time, and I will be working on some subtle things. I have now installed an “amazon” tower in the sidebar of this site. If you ever feel like helping me out, please buy something. I’m in the middle of trying to figure out what to do about my cable television or switching to direct tv for a year, because my last cable bill was nearly $100! This site does not pay me, and without a job (still) I’m having a hard time getting wrestling in the long term. Until then, I still am working hard to bring you this blog. The goal for Sir Jorge’s WWE Blog is to get a DOT COM, but that might not happen, since that was the goal for this site since I started it in 2007.

Also, I’m going to try and be a little more in depth in my reviews, but we’ll see what happens.

Lastly, before the results and review, please leave comments. There’s not much else I can ask for but comments. If you’re reading the site, give me feedback, and I’ll try in this new year to comment back and have a “blog post” called “COMMENTS” and we can have a discussion. Maybe I’ll even start a podcast…we’ll see.

WWE Friday Night Smackdown Review 1/1/09 Review

The show opened up with C.M Punk and Luke Gallows coming down the stage to a chorus of boo’s. C.M Punk is golden on the mic, he doesn’t seem to be trying hard at all, at least it doesn’t feel that way from my perspective. He started to make fun of people at ringside, and talked about resolutions. C.M Punk said and I loved the quote, “I Will Beat Everyone Up in this Arena if I have to!” that was the best thing I’ve seen in a long time. Punk said that next week he’s going to save someone from the audience and go city by city and save people.

This is a great thing, if you think about it. Punk could be growing a stable, can you imagine that, a real stable in 2010? It’s like Raven’s Flock all over again! I hope it really does go that way. You might also notice that Punk dropped names like “Youth of Today” and “Minor Threat” two very big straighedge hardcore bands from the 80’s.

Matt Hardy defeated Cm Punk in a beat the clock match at 7:20

These two are no strangers to each other, and Hardy got a huge pop, which was definitely on time considering Punk just gave one of the best Heel promo’s I’ve heard in a long time.

Cm Punk took control of a good majority of this match. Punk has definitely been growing as a wrestler, as his timing is getting a lot more methodical, and dare I say technical. I used to hate seeing his matches, but now they seem to make a lot of sense when compared to Dean Malenko, Chris Benoit, and Bret Hart. While he doesn’t focus on a leg, he does seem to follow up big moves with some rest holds to wear down his opponent. Hardy is no new comer though, and he waited for a mistake by punk, and turned this match around with his fast paced connective move set. It wasn’t enough though, as Punk delivered his GTS and Hardy was out for the three count.

After the match, Luke Gallows took to beating Hardy and delivered his finisher. Punk and Gallows then looked on victoriously, which was quite good. These two and possibly more in 2010 can prove to be the next Raven (ECW or WCW 97 era Raven).

Kane vs Dolph Ziggler had their time expire in their beat the clock match

When’s the last time Kane was relevant? He’s so slow in ring, although he’s been ramping it up a little, he’s just not that good anymore. I don’t like him, there I said.

Ziggler was like a man possessed in this match. He immediately lunged at Kane, and fought fast and hit Kane with everything he had, alongside quick pin attempts. Kane had a few shots in early on, but Ziggler was moving quickly and trying to win this thing in record time. Kane was definitely looking very weak in this match, as he was getting worked by a faster Ziggler, but despite all of Ziggler’s attempts to beat Kane, he couldn’t do it in the time allotted. Ziggler for not being a former champion, really made Kane look like small, and after the match was over he hit his finisher called “The Zig Zag”. This match was all Ziggler, I liked it, and hope Kane is on his way out this year.

They played a promo of Sheamus and John Cena from Monday Night Raw and they tried to make it epic, with color variations and different edits, but it didn’t look epic at all. It was tiring, and a stupid match with a stupid finish. The Sheamus and Cena feud is the worst fued idea in a long time, and I don’t care for it. In fact, WWE is going to have to do a lot to make me believe that those two are entertaining. I’ve seen Cena thrown into lights, off of limo’s and fight Eddie Guerrero in a street fight back stage, yet one stupid looking kick and it’s over? So lame.

The Great Khali defeated The Carolina Panther

The Carolina Panther is nothing more than a jobber with a Carolina Panther’s jersey. It was seriously the worst jobber idea I’ve seen in a long time. Khali came in, dropped the jobber, pinned him and won, that was it. Man, I wish I only had to work 5 minutes a week and get six figures.

Have you seen the trailers for the new Marine film? Ted Dibiase has the charisma of a wet blanket. Man, he sucks at acting or showcasing any sort of emotional response. He’s worst than Kennedy…remember the last time a wwe film flopped? Someone got fired. Will Dibiase get fired? Man, I hope so, if it means no more WWE straight to dvd sequels.

Drew McIntyre defeated John Morrison via disqualification

This match had a lot of offense, both men didn’t want to let up. McIntyre was definitely looking less strong for once, and wasn’t running over Morrison in this match like he rolled over many of his opponents in the past. Morrison fired off some great offense and was fighting hard to get a foothold in this match up. McIntyre getting desperate pulled the turnbuckle off and this thing looked to be getting dangerous, but the ref was there to try and stop things. In the mix, Morrison got disqualified because of McIntyre and that led to the end of the match.

After the match, this feud started to get good. Morrison attacked McIntyre on his way back to the locker room and the two brawled, causing a ton of ref’s to come out and stop the two men from fighting. You gotta love when brawls break out, that’s just a classic moment in professional wrestling. Many feuds of the past started with brawls over the title after matches.

Mickie James defeated Beth Phoenix

First and foremost, I’m tired of podcasts and wrestling websites talking about how it’s so bad that they are calling Mickie James fat. She did gain a few pounds last year and was slowing down in ring. If a person/girl watching the wwe really has problems with weight and only goes further down the rabbit hole into bad eating and weight gain, maybe they have bigger problems. I have no problems calling Mickie James “Piggy James” or that’s she’s fat, it’s PRO WRESTLING not a role model for behavior and am sick of people talking about it like it’s something that is truly going to be a trigger for people that watch it.

My explanation of that above took longer than this match. Mickie James won after Michelle McCool accidentally kicked Beth Phoenix at ringside. Mickie Wins, and she still has a little tummy to lose, just saying.

Michelle McCool and Layla attacked after the match was over, and Beth Phoenix got involved, turning her from heel to face? Weird.

The divas division sucks. The post match was better than the actual match. The best part was that a fat Mickie James was laid out cold in the middle of the ring. Maybe this will be the death of the divas division.

Rey Mysterio defeated Chris Jericho in a beat the clock match with 1 second left 7:19

This match was actually interesting, as Jericho and Mysterio made quite a go for it. Jericho had a lot of control early on, but Mysterio turned things around a few times. Jericho reversed the 619 into the Walls of Jericho, and after that wasn’t enough, Mysterio went off the top rope only to get caught into the Code Breaker! I thought this match was all over, but nope, a small package roll up and three seconds later Rey Mysterio won this match.

While I thought the match was good, I have to ask something that no one is addressing. What good are finisher maneuvers? They never seem to pin anyone. Jericho not only hit Mysterio with a Codebreaker and the Walls of Jericho, they weren’t enough. Oh well.

Mysterio pins Jericho with only 1 second left in the timer.

Batista vs R Truth the time ran out before Batista could win the match

Mysterio was ringside for this match up. I know we’re in the world of good guys and bad guys, but the ending was awesome.

Batista was definitely in control throughout this match. Truth got some good hard shots in, but it seemed that Batista was just powerful and ready for it. Truth made it interesting though, but every time he got close to getting a good move in, Batista had a quick counter. Case in point, the sick sideslam out of a Truth’s momentum off the ropes.

Mysterio did what I thought was the only good way to end this thing. Rey Mysterio got involved at the last second and cost Batista the #1 contender match! Batista was about to close the deal and get a shot at Undertaker, but nope, Rey Mysterio showing that he wants the belt, pulled out the ref! The clock counted down and it was all said and done. A great finish, if you ask me…and no one did.

Mysterio seemed to be the #1 contender, but then out came Vickie Guerrero. She announced that Rey Mysterio must wrestle Batista next week and the winner will face the undertaker for the title at the Royal Rumble.

WWE Friday Night Smackdown 12/25/09 Review

Alright, Christmas is over, although I’m still tired from my long day of partying. Well, mostly hanging out with family, and eating too much. However, I’m back in action with another review and results thing that I do on this blog that no one seems to read or help me keep going. I gotta admit, I was a little excited about this, but didn’t put my hopes up too high.

R Truth, Finlay, John Morrison, Matt Hardy defeated C.M Punk, Luke Gallows, Drew McIntyre, and Dolph Ziggler

It’s funny to me, that this match just seems repetitive. I know it’s an eight man tag, but we’ve already seen 6 of these guys wrestle each other in a tag match. They’ve added Ziggler and Finlay, but those guys just seem like an after thought. I guess we won’t be seeing Ziggler vs McIntyre anytime soon.

This match was fast paced, and filled with a lot of spots. It just kept pushing forward, with everyone getting their signature shots in right away. The match broke into chaos and every guy ran in and knocked someone out, until Morrison hit Starship Pain on Ziggler and this match was done. I feel like I’m getting hit with the same thing every week from the opening matches on Smackdown. Oh well, it was a fun match, nothing really crazy, but that’s alright.

Chris Jericho came out to cut a promo, and he was interrupted by The Hart Dynasty, and then Dx appeared on the screen and they interrupted the guys in ring. Nothing really happened here, besides more slapstick and nonsense. Chris Jericho was hit with their finisher, and I guess Dx should be scared right? This was boring.

I don’t mind the Piggie James thing, because it’s obvious that at one point she was gaining weight and it was all over the internet and podcasting world. So I don’t care. What does she care? She gets paid to be there, that’s all I’m saying. I wish I got paid to be made fun of on television. Instead, I’m broke, and have no job right now.

The first hour main event, was none other than the world title match.

Rey Mysterio Jr. defeated The Undertaker via disqualification

This match wasn’t half bad, and Mysterio actually had a few chances to make this thing work out. Undertaker definitely pushed his weight around on Rey, and Rey took somemajor punishment in and outside the ring. The Undertaker was ready to light up Rey, but Batista came in and blatantly interfered. The Ref called for the bell, and I can only assume that Rey wins via disqualification. Mysterio got the last laugh with 619’s on Undertaker and Batista. This match should’ve got a clean finish, but instead it just got the Dusty finish.

Cryme Tyme defeated jobbers

This was weird. Cryme Tyme was in the second hour and they just beat the crap out of two really random guys. I kid you not, these guys were nobodies.

Mickie James & Maria defeated Layla & Beth Phoenix

This match was ok at best. Layla spent a lot of time with rest holds, and Mickie James ended up winning for her team. Then she attacked Michelle McCool, who was at ringside. This match bored me.

Dx defeated The Hart Dynasty

The Hart team got some good offense in against Dx. They did not just get worked and then thrown out of the ring. They actually put on a good show. Natalya definitely helped her team get a bit more offense than they usually get. I admit, I was almost impressed with the timing from Dh Smith and Tyson Kidd, they seemed to be right in there with Dx, despite Dx being much slower than their past days as a team. There were a few near falls, but nothing that I really would consider “obvious” or even “realistic”. Dh Smith couldn’t put away HBK without a finisher, yet he was heavily frustrated at the two counts. Triple H got the hot tag, and was leveled by Kidd and Smith with the finisher from the Hart's but that wasn't enough. Kidd fell outside the ring, and HBK hit DH Smith with a superkick from outside the ring, and Triple H hit a huge pedigree, and this match was done. I knew the Hart's would not win...but I didn't think it would be with Dx kicking out of their finisher. So much for building up the tag division, huh?

WWE Friday Night Smackdown 12/4/09 Review

The show started with CM Punk and Luke Gallows coming to the ring. I knew what was coming, but my eye hurt, so I didn’t write it down right away.

R. Truth defeated CM Punk via disqualification

CM Punk and R Truth could put a good match together, and prove to be good overall. However, this match wasn’t even close to being good at all. It was obviously headed towards a disqualification finish, and when Gallows interfered that’s exactly what we got. I like Punk with a bodyguard, and this mean streak keeps growing. I don’t dislike it, I just feel that we could use more clean finishes in wrestling. I mean, what is this? TNA? Geez.

And now ladies and gentleman, the big man slow match…what is this the 1980’s?

Kane defeated Mike Knox

I hate big man matches. I think it’s because I’ve seen them too many times. Sure they guys can move, but I’m not a fan of either right now. Kane has slowed down since his days as Isaac Yankem and Mike Knox hasn’t been relevant for a long time it seems. Kane essentially put away Mike Knox, and it’s time to fire him. Knox sucks now. Kane sucks too. This match was standard, but it ended with a good choke slam.

Jericho and Big Show backstage with Josh had the longest, and I do mean longest, promo I’ve seen in a long time. This thing was long, longer than anything in recent years. This was a main throwback to the 80’s, and if you saw it, you know what I’m talking about.

Mickie James defeated Natalya and Beth Phoenix

Best part about this triple threat match? A sick double clothesline between Phoenix and Natalya! Picture perfect, and just sick. These three are the best wrestlers in the divas division, and wow, they put on a few good shots in there. Mickie James edged out a victory after some time, and near falls. So now, Mickie James is the #1 contender.

Mickie James went nuts and started to fight McCool and Layla at ringside, and out of the back came Maria to help her out.

Drew McIntyre defeated John Morrison

Drew finally gets a shot at some serious competition, and he didn’t disappoint, and neither did Morrison. Morrison didn’t just back down, he went right at Drew, and Drew was keeping up quite well, making some good reversals and catching up with Morrison’s offense. Seriously, Drew had Morrison well scouted, and was putting his boots to him better than some other contenders, including Ziggler! On the outside at one point, Drew pulled Morrison’s head into the bars underneath the ring and this caused the champion to lose the match. Drew pinned Morrison, and he’ll most likely get a shot at the title.

Escobar is channeling the “Razor Ramon” character, vest and all. Vickie Guerrero came out and cut a huge promo, and Escobar appears to be a fan favorite now? This is lame. Whatever, I’m too tired to write more about this b.s.

The Hart Dynasty defeated Escobar

Escobar had to wrestle both members of the Hart Dynasty, and early on he had this thing rolled up. He was showcasing some good offense, and clean moves, but Tyson Kidd wasn’t going to just sit down as he tagged in the big man DH Smith and Escobar was not doing well with the numbers game. The Hart Attack was hit and Escobar is done. Looks like Escobar is going to be wished his future endeavors.

Chris Jericho & The Big Show defeated Cryme Tyme

This match was fast, and while Jericho was obviously the weak link of the tag team champions, Cryme Tyme was getting some good offense in. However, Shad walked into a huge right hand and was knocked out. Big Show and Jericho win with somewhat ease.

The Undertaker was coming down to the ring, but Batista interrupted him with a chair and just attacked with no mercy. He was trying to soften up taker for their match at TLC.

And that was the end of the show. Smackdown was ok at best.

WWE Friday Night Smackdown 11/6/09 Review

The Undertaker started the show with a “dead man” speech. I’m sick of the Undertaker already. I liked it better when he didn’t say a whole lot. The Undertaker states the obvious and he just isn’t as scary.

Chris Jericho came out to talk smack at the Undertaker and cut that random “I’m not scared” promo.

Dolph Ziggler & The Hart Dynasty defeated John Morrison & Cryme Tyme

This match was actually not half bad. Seriously, this match had a lot of things going for it. It mainly had the fast paced feel that a six man tag should have, and it had a lot of quick tags, fast moves, and good overall timing. Ziggler and Morrison aren’t the only ones that can really go in the ring. The Hart Dynasty and Cryme Tyme added a good amount of “flavor” to the match, giving an overall good time. The finish came when Ziggler tagged in blindly and got the pinfall victory. Ziggler is one upping John Morrison, maybe he’s next in line for an intercontinental title reign, and in my view, a little over due.

Rey Mysterio gave some weak interview, it bored me.

Beth Phoenix defeated Brittany Carter

Beth Phoenix squashed another no name woman jobber. I’m not sure why the WWE feels they need to reestablish Beth Phoenix as an unstoppable monster in the women’s division. It just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. She beat the jobber, and that was that. Maybe Brittany Carter will go to tna now.

Drew McIntyre defeated Jimmy Wang Yang

What the heck? Jimmy Wang Yang is still employed too? First Jamie Noble and now Jimmy Wang Yang? What the heck! Jimmy Wang Yang got very little offense in, and it was all over. Drew wins again and Jimmy Wang Yang is on his way out, he just has to be.

Rey Mysterio defeated Mike Knox

Mike Knox beat up Rey Mysterio for most of this match. Seriously, he really pushed the limits on what kind of a beating he could get. It’s an interesting thing overall, because Mike Knox looked like he was winning this thing clean, with the heaviest handed offense I’ve seen in a long time…then it all collapsed. It collapsed and I was frustrated. It’s one thing to have John Cena be superman, but Rey Mysterio is still this super little man? So lame. So lame. This bored me, sorry, I’ve seen way too much Rey Mysterio for one life time.

R Truth defeated Cm Punk

This match really reminded me how slow Cm Punk’s offense has gotten. He has some explosive flurries, but he’s really put on this slow motion, methodical offensive style instead of his fast paced indie style that he used to have while champion and while on ecw. Truth was getting worked for a good part of this match, and Punk really did try to wear him down, but Truth kept pushing and eventually got most of his fast paced moves. Punk started yelling at the referee again, and Truth rolled up Punk for the fast count and the win.

Matt Hardy defeated Batista via disqualification

You know that WWE is odd when the main event features a fat Matt Hardy. Come on, he’s not in his prime right now, and I’m not sure why I can’t get behind a super “tights” wearing Matt Hardy. It was one thing to see him annihilate Edge for screwing Lita…even if it was a work, but this is ridiculous. He’s just not someone I can et behind, even if he’s fighting a very mad Batista. That all being said, Matt Hardy did put up a fight and didn’t just let Batista get the fast win. Hardy put up a lot of defense, and went through some hard hits. Hardy’s short leg drop to Batista’s knee was the highlight for me, he should’ve started the match with that, ala Bret Hart. Hardy’s weight definitely showed when he went or the failed Moonsault…but he managed to hit the Twist of Fate! I liked this match, it was really getting good towards the end, or maybe I was just waking up.

Batista snapped nd got himself disqualified by beating Hardy to within an inch of his life. Oh well.

Smackdown was ok, I’m not really too keen on anything going on right now on either major wwe show. I just don’t care right now. I’m going through the motions, it’s true, it just seems too old to me. I’ll get back into a groove, I’m sure.

WWE Friday Night Smackdown 10/30/09 Review

Todd Grisham and Matt Striker are the ringside announcers now, since Jim Ross is not feeling so hot lately.

Teddy Long started the show talking about how Smackdown was great at Bragging Rights, and then recapping the events that transpired between Batista and Rey Mysterio. Teddy Long started talking about how great the Smackdown brand was, then Chris Jericho came out to talk about random crap. Teddy Long took the trophy away from Jericho, and the night continued with Jericho complaining about how he doesn’t have a title shot.

This prompted Kane to show up. After a near melee, Teddy Long created a match to see who would join the Big Show and Undertaker for the title. Kane and Jericho will square off later tonight and the Survivor series match is going to be a triple threat match, just like the Raw main event will be.

Long gone are the days of singles matches for the title? Am I watching TNA? I’m confused.

Dolph Ziggler defeated John Morrison via countout

This match started fast, off rails and going forward to becoming match of the night. Morrison and Ziggler are definitely the future of this company, even though John Morrison’s ring attire is a bit dated at this point. This match was fast paced, move for move, and these guys put on a great show. I really liked how these two knew each others moves and narrowly missed getting hit by them. The match broke down on the outside, as Ziggler hit a sick move on the announcers table, costing the ten count on John Morrison and winning this match with ease.

Beth Phoenix defeated Jenny Brooks

Beth Phoenix defeated this jobber or sorts. This match was all Beth Phoenix, and it was nice to see her get some good offense in and prove that she can wrestle and is not just a…face of sorts.

Matt Hardy defeated Escobar

Matt Hardy is fat. Escobar is a wannabe latino heat…only he has none of the charisma. WWE buries talent, and uses Matt Hardy and his fat gut to do it. On the other hand, this match had some good moments. Escobar attacking Hardy’s knee was a classic technical wrestler move, however, not following up and letting Matt Hardy steal another win, is not a classic move. Matt Hardy completely buries the new guy, and why not? That’s the traditional way of not getting someone over in the wwe. I don’t mind, the match wasn’t completely terrible. It was a bit shorter than I thought it would be, and probably because Escoobar isn’t ready for the big time.

Rey Mysterio wanted an explanation in ring about what happened. Batista came out and the two shared words. This thing wasn’t as tense as I thought, and it really didn’t look that great to me. However, Batista turning Heel? That’s something I could get behind, but seeing Mysterio in another “little man” vs “big man” feud is a bit much. We need a cruiserweight division, that’s for sure.

On a sidenote, I want to say that Twilight sucks, and I’m already tired of seeing the advertisements for a pg-13 new moon…now if it was rated R and we got some….um…nevermind.

Drew McIntyre vs Finlay no contest

Finlay, the guy who loves to fight, was scheduled to wrestle Drew McIntyre. However, Finlay never really made it as Drew McIntyre attacked him and forced the match to get canceled. It’s ironic really that Finlay gets pwned like this. Oh well. I like how they are building up Drew McIntyre.

The Divas had a costume contest, and it broke into a fight. I’ve been tired of the no talent wwe divas for a long time, but I don’t call the shots, I just review em.

Cm Punk defeated Scott Armstrong

Remember that awesome match in WCW with Brad Armstrong and Dean Malenko? Of course you don’t, but this match reminded me of that. Only because Scott Armstrong comes from a wrestling family and like his other brothers isn’t very famous…until now…well Road Dogg is, but that’s another story. Punk killed Scott Armstrong here, he hit the GTS and really made short work out of Armstrong, for no apparent reason other than Punk couldn’t beat the Undertaker.

Chris Jericho defeated Kane

Kane and Jericho put on an ok match. In fact, this match was a little more than ok, this was the first time I was actually interested in a Kane match. Well, the first time in a long time. The Big Slow machine has been stinking up the arena’s for quite sometime, and I feel he’s on his way out. He’s a tired gimmick and boring to watch. He has some cool moments though, but overall, he’s not that good…unless he’s wrestling Chris Jericho. Jericho was not in control for most of this match as it seemed that every time he would throw a move up, he would get stopped by Kane and couldn’t really capitalize on it. This match really started to slow down but Jericho’s Codebreaker on Kane as Kane came off the top rope, made this something to see. While it didn’t look as good as many other moments that Jericho has done, this spot was done well considering Kane’s size. Jericho wins and is going to Survivor series to wrestle a similar storyline that Raw is doing. Oh well…

Smackdown was ok, nothing too crazy happened and it was entertaining enough to get me through another day of wrestling.

WWE Friday Night Smackdown 10/23/09 Review

Jim Ross was sick, and we started the show with a recap of Raw. I was half asleep…and my arm hurt because I slept on it wrong.

Chris Jericho was in ring talking about how great his team was etc. Cryme Tyme interrupted Chris Jericho and it wasn’t half bad.

The show moved to having all the Smackdown Team in ring arguing about crap. Jericho and Kane basically forced four out of the seven members into a handicap match that wills tart later on tonight. This show just seemed like filler from the start.

R Truth, Matt Hardy, Finlay, and The Hart Dynasty defeated Drew McIntyre, Escobar, Dolph Ziggler, JTG

This was an odd thrown together match up, but hey, it’s the WWE, what do you expect? This match was your standard tag team fare, with the faces taking control with each major movement. The guys would hit some great shots, and keep the Smackdown hopefuls at bay for the most part. Due to the fact that there were so many personalities in this match up, there just was a lot of things working against the ref, who found it hard to keep control. Finlay hit JTG with a foreign object in the leg, and Matt Hardy hit the twist of fate, winning the match up! They didn’t let this match develop fully, but it had some good high spots, that’s for sure.

John Morrison defeated Mike Knox

This match wasn’t all that great at all. Mike Knox took Morrison to the limits, well, some limits, and after a few moments getting hit with Knox’s power moves, he managed to squirm out a win by hitting Starship Pain and not even breaking sweat! I guess he gets credit for that indeed.

Rey Mysterio and Batista defeated Chris Jericho and Kane

Jericho and Kane isolated Mysterio for a good portion of this match up. The two monster heel’s seemed to know how to really work the crowd too, because with every motion they had people cheering on Mysterio and hoping for a bright spot in the match up. The fans would go crazy when Mysterio opened up a spot for a fall away ddt and nearly tag Batista. However, the big red machine wasn’t done yet and he was pushing for more punishment. The match definitely got good when Batista got the hot tag, and this thing was a powder keg exploding, and even though Mysterio got choke slammed nearly through the mat, Batista was able to spear Kane and get the win for his team.

Mickie James defeated Layla

This match was boring to me. Mickie James was wrestling at half speed, and her opponent wasn’t keeping up at all, at least not in my view. Jerry Lawler said “very impressive” and I wish I was smoking what he was, because this match sucked.

The Undertaker defeated Cm Punk

The Undertaker had the cards stacked against him in this match up, and that made for an intriguing factor. While it was the undertaker that had all the problems against him in this match up, it was CM Punk that had full control over his opponent during the ongoings of this match up. Whenever Undertaker would try to force his will, Punk was right there to counter. This didn’t last too long as The Undertaker would find a way to come back and start giving Punk some sick moves. Snakeeyes, a leg drop and a running clothesline put Punk in a major daze. Punk brought in a chair to the match but Taker was the one that used it, well at least in reversing Punk’s running attack. Undertaker then hit a huge choke slam on the referee, and put his eyes set on Teddy Long! Punk leveled Undertaker with a steel chair and as Teddy Long called for a new referee, Punk put on the Anaconda device, but couldn’t submit Undertaker. Undertaker than slid out and hit the Hell’s Gate submission hold and made Cm Punk tap out! Undertaker retains, regardless of all the odds stacked against him.

WWE Friday Night Smackdown 10/16/09 Review

Wow, I guess I missed the whole new Smackdown music and intro change. It’s not that great, but who cares? It’s just the intro music after all.

Chris Jericho was made team captain of the Smackdown crew for Bragging Rights. Chris Jericho was ranting and raving about how he’s better than DX and out came The Big Red Machine Kane. He claimed that Jericho was not the real captain, and scared Jericho. Jericho and Kane are now co-captains of sorts. Whatever…I’m not getting Bragging Rights.

Dolph Ziggler defeated Mike Knox and Finlay in a triple threat match

Finlay and Mike Knox opened up the show. I thought Mike Knox got axed a while ago? He’s not that good, but oh well. Oh right, Dolph Ziggler was also in this match as it was a triple threat match. Oh and guess what else? This match already happened a few months ago, so it wasn’t a surprise to me how this match was going. Finlay started the match fighting off Knox to the outside, then focusing on Ziggler with his Celtic offense and fast aggressive hits. Ziggler got control of the match, at least momentarily before Knox got into the fray, but Finlay wasn’t about to let go of any control in this match up, and was back in it. This match was going back and forth for sure, and it was interesting to note that all three men were never fighting one another at the same time, it was always isolated to one on one with the third breaking up the close falls. Knox hit an Electric Chair on Finlay and Ziggler hit an awkward big splash off the top, which was a nice sequence at the mid point of this match up. He couldn’t capitalize as Mike Knox broke up another near fall. The three men would exchange near falls throughout the ongoing points of the match up. Finlay hit Rolling Thunder on both Ziggler and Mike Knox which was the most impressive part of this match up. Finlay brought in his weapon as usual, knocked out Mike Knox but was broken up by Ziggler, and Ziggler got the pinfall! Once again stealing the match as he did a while back in the same exact pairing of guys. Ziggler is now a part of that Smackdown team for Bragging Rights.

Cryme Tyme defeated The Hart Dynasty

Oh man, once again we get this match? I guess this is another way to force viewers to see the same thing, especially since the stipulation is that the winners will get into the Bragging Rights Smackdown team led by Jericho and Kane. I was impressed initially by The Hart Dynasty, but at this point they are just jobbers to me. I don’t see them as a viable tag team at all, and maybe that’s just me, but come on, they haven’t been that good, at least not to get the Hart name. DH Smith had full control of the Big Shad early on, controlling him with rest holds, submissions and offense. JTG got a hot tag and started to clean house. He was hitting fast dropkicks, quick reversals and was actually flying and getting the crowd into this. It looked like he was on his way to winning this thing, but Tyson Kidd was tagged in and barely got away. JTG impressed me with a new finisher, and the win with a pinfall on Tyson Kidd! Like I said, The Hart Dynasty are just jobbers right now.

Vickie Guerrero is back with a new wrestler…I don’t know what’s going on here…this is odd…but here is the new wrestler Eric Escobar.

Eric Escobar defeated Matt Hardy

Matt Hardy is still a little chunky, I’m not sure if you guys out there notice that too. He hasn’t been in shape since returning. Escobar is a new guy, I haven’t seen much out of him, and he was a little green. Hardy was definitely the aggressor, forcing Escobar to learn quickly in ring to survive, and it wasn’t looking good for Escobar’s first major match in WWE. He did have a good flurry of offense, but nothing major. I mean, if clotheslines and hard rights and lefts are major, then maybe I’m reviewing a different show. However, right when I threw in the towel for Escobar, Vickie Guerrero interfered and helped Escobar win the match up! That’s right, he has pinned Matt Hardy and is now a part of the Smackdown team for Bragging rights.

The Miz and John Morrison did a special edition of the dirt sheet that ended with them nearly fighting each other. Insults were thrown, let’s just say that. It was a waste of time really, but those two are clever on the mic, I must admit that.

Drew McIntyre defeated R Truth via countout

Finally, these two are fighting, at least for me to finally get a chance at seeing. These two have been building a good feud, how? By doing things old school. Drew has been assaulting R Truth backstage and in matches and that’s great. I wish things were more like that more often, just random fights backstage. Truth had this match going his way early on, hitting major offense with great power. Once again, Drew continues to impress this time by forcing R Truth to miss the ten count, and lose this match. Drew would attack on the outside and inside, and just looked like a good new comer to the world of Smackdown. He also won a spot on the Smackdown team for Bragging Rights.

Rey Mysterio defeated Batista

Batista and Rey Mysterio had a match here, and it was obvious that Batista did not want to wrestle this match up. Mysterio on the other hand wanted to have a serious match up, and was coming back to any offense that Batista was throwing at him. This match was essentially a stalemate at least in the early goings. As the match went forward, Mysterio isolated Batista’s leg and tried to make this match swing his way. Batiasta was nearly put in the 619 but ducked out of the way, Mysterio just kept moving forward; Batista of course started to ramp up as well. The two friends were playing up that relationship in this match up and nothing crazy was happening, the two just continued to move forward. Batista looked seriously considerate during this match, wanting not to hurt his friend here and pushing forward with power moves, trying to put Rey Mysterio away without killing him overall. This made for a slow match up, with Batista slowing the pace down so that Mysterio couldn’t go all out, and he didn’t have to look like a jerk. This was made ever more evident when he latched onto several rest holds on Mysterio. Mysterio fought it out though and he kept going for faster moves and moments, to no avail. Mysteiro hit the 619 and then went for the Hurricanrana, but was caught by Batista, and while Batista was going for the Batista bomb, Mysterio countered and hit the Hurricanrana after all and scored the pinfall on the big man! Batista argued with the ref claiming that the shoulder was up, and it was to no avail either, Batista just accepted the defeat.

Post match, CM Punk hit Mysterio with the GTS and then ran off!

Not half bad, I didn’t hate this show that’s for sure.

WWE Friday Night Smackdown 8/14/09 Review

CM Punk opened up the show, and his new shirt is badass! Now that’s a shirt! I love that thing, if you saw it, you know! Punk got on the mic and delivered another one of his heel speeches. Teddy Long came out and interrupted Cm Punk. Jeff Hardy came down and talked some more, and that was that.

Dolph Ziggler defeated Finlay

Dolph Ziggler and Finlay put on a halfway decent match. Ziggler took some punishment, and wasn’t able to counter Finlay’s overt style, but was in fact able to get a few shots in, including a running kick to the corner of the ring, to lead us to commercial break. Upon returning from the break, Dolph Ziggler was showcasing how intelligent Ziggler is in regards to his abilities. He was playing the more technical wrestler role here, while Finlay was having a hard time managing reversals. Finlay’s overt strong style, complimented Ziggler’s attempts for technical counters and heavier impact moves. Mike Knox came to ring side, and was watching outside the ring, meanwhile the two mid carders were putting on a good match up. Ziggler, continued to take punishment towards the end of this match up, with Finlay hitting hard shots to the face, and eventually tossing Ziggler outside of the ring, right in front of Mike Knox. As the two men went back to the ring, Knox hit Finlay, and Ziggler capitalized winning this match and moving forward in his quest to solidify his wrestling skills.

Post match Mike Knox attacked Finlay and pummeled him outside of the ring.

CM Punk defeated John Morrison

Here we go, Cm Punk vs Morrison three, and this time Punk was starting things out solid. The match started to get a little fast paced, and of course we had to go commercial break. After we came back from Break, the two were locked into Punk’s more technical style, forcing Morrison to stay grounded instead of hitting his fast paced offense. Punk was definitely trying to tire out Morrison so that he couldn’t hit his finisher, and more. However, Morrison kept finding ways to wiggle out of headlocks, and stretches, causing Punk to show a little frustration over this match up. Punk couldn’t hit his GTS, trying twice to get Morrison down for the count. Morrison nearly put away Punk twice, nearly hitting his Starship Pain, but it wasn’t to be had, as Punk fought back hard, and eventually hit the GTS to get the pinfall victory, finally defeating Morrison. This gets match of the week for wrestling, that’s for sure. This was a good overall match up, and Punk really proved that he’s not just a paper champion or a midcarder on his way down. Morrison also was impressive, but was two steps behind Punk at the end, and Punk made sure to capitalize, making this match a good entertaining bout.

Melina defeated Layla

Layla was giving a lot of pain to Melina. Melina, being very flexible, seemed to take a lot of pretzel like positions at the hands of Layla. Layla looked like she was improving nicely, but it was evident that she wasn’t quite ready for the big time, showcasing uneasy moments and second guessing her moves. Melina was definitely a better wrestler in this match, but that doesn’t mean a whole lot as Melina’s screams and random offense did not make any sense and was done with a slow movement that really took me out of the match up. There was also several botched moves, and misses that were just too obvious to ignore. While Melina is getting better, she just isn’t ready to carry a newcomer like Layla in this match and it showed as the match went on longer. Melina screaming was annoying as hell too, and after the match was over, I was so glad to finally get past the mandatory divas match up. I hate the wwe divas, they can’t wrestle, they are just stupid to me. I’d rather watch the Knockouts, at least they actually have good timing at times.

The Big Show defeated JTG

The Big Show dominated this match up against JTG to the point that this match wasn’t too great. I mean, The Big Show doesn’t have to job out to JTG, but it wasn’t that entertaining to me. Meanwhile the wife was yelling at me because of the bathroom being dirty, so maybe it was her nagging that made me not like this match.

The Hart Dynasty defeated Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy seemed to be getting punished in this match. Word on the street is that Hardy isn’t going to finish out the year with WWE and hasn’t renewed his contract, so is this punishment? I had to wonder as Hardy had to fight both members of the Hart Dynasty in this match up, and was getting worked over through out this match up. It was actually kind of a let down overall with Hardy getting beat up at every moment, and even DH Smith looked good, with Hardy slowing down to half speed and letting DH catch up, when he would normally look slow and uneasy. For once, DH Smith was looking like a shade of his father, but only because Hardy played up his injury. Tyson Kidd was not on top of his game, making rookie mistakes that would make Bret Hart shake his head in disbelief. Tyson Kidd eventually got his bearings and with a little help of DH Smith pinned the champion clean, and this thing was over.

Post match CM Punk came down to the ring to pick the bones of Jeff Hardy. He was fighting Hardy, pummeling him with elbows until John Morrison ran down for the safe, hitting everyone that was moving in the ring, and causing the fans to react positively to the rising star. Cm Punk turned this around with the equalizer; a steel chair. He then wrapped Hardy’s neck into a chair, and was ready to break Hardy’s neck, but out ran down Matt Hardy and was fighting like crazy against PUNK! This got great cheers, and Morrison and Matt Hardy, one time enemies, were cleaning up the mess and the crowd was loving it. I wasn’t so sure just yet, but it was cool to see that he helped out.

The night ended with the Hardy Boys reuniting in the ring.

The camera’s went backstage and there was Vince McMahon.

WWE Friday Night Smackdown 7/17/09 Review

Jeff Hardy came down and started to ramble about nothing. He showcased CM Punk’s words from last week about how he hasn’t been in danger of losing his job with wwe. The two are terrible on the mic, terrible. I don’t know why are they trying to push these dudes to talk? They should just brawl. Jeff hit Punk, then he sat down like a chump, and that was that.

John Morrison defeated CM Punk in a non title match

I’m not sure why it is that Punk, being the champion, is working so hard to wrestle. Triple H once said that the champ shouldn’t be wrestling for free on television. Wait, it was Ric Flair that said that, nevermind. We saw this match before, and we saw John Morrison win, so why did they bring us this again for free? It makes no sense. I hope this doesn’t mean that we’ll have to watch these two wrestle as many times as Triple H and Orton have, because I’m going to throw a fit. This was mostly the same match saw a couple weeks ago, Morrison seemed to be getting a second win after being dominated by Punk’s offense. Morrison just kept hitting hard, and the timing was great, Punk wasn’t looking like the champ in this match towards the middle. As soon as I said that Punk reversed a Huricanrana, and the two exchanged near falls. Punk’s tilt-o-world back breaker was impressive, if you missed that, wow, it looked painful. Morrison once again gets the win with a random reversal into pinning combination, and PUNK looks dumb. I don’t know why the WWE is burying the champion, but that’s what’s going on with these stupid matches. I don’t see Triple H getting buried like this or Orton either, so dumb.

Layla was dancing out at ring side, it was lame. Ricky Ortiz came out and tried to Rally the crowd, but was failing miserably.

Kane defeated R Truth

Kane was dominant early on and was hitting some major blows but Truth was hitting Kane with some big dropkicks and leg drops, forcing Kane to be outside as we cut to commercial. Kane turned things around, but Truth would not go down. He kept fighting, even though he wasn’t winning the match easily, he just wouldn’t give up fighting back against the Big Red Machine. It would be short lived as Kane won after huge boot to the face.

The worst big man match out of Kane, I’ve seen in a long time. Kane sucks.

Post match out came The great Khali! Last time we saw Khali face Kane, Kane backed down and was scared! He once again ran like a chump. I told you Kane sucks.

The Hart Dynasty defeated Cryme Tyme & Eve Torres

The women started out this match, and quickly tagged in the men. Tyson Kidd started with Chad and was out weighed by the big man. JTG got tagged in and it seemed like no one cared about this match as the crowd was all but dead. The Harts took over this match with DH Smith getting into the mix. The match broke down and it got really boring. Natalya ended up winning the match, and that was that. Nothing to see here, really boring and mismatched overall; it was not a fun watch, I got bored fast.

Edge gave a weird interview, he was all sad. He doesn’t know if he’ll be back full strength. Chris Jericho came out and got on the mic, it was great. He really is amazing, this guy is the best WWE superstar active right now.

Chris Jericho & Dolph Ziggler defeated Rey Mysterio & Jeff Hardy via disqualification

CM Punk’s music hit and he walked down ringside to get onto Commentary during this match up.

The match started off with Hardy in trouble, and of course, we get straight to another commercial. Dolph Ziggler has improved a lot since the first time I saw him, he was in there holding his own against Jeff Hardy and making good work of this match up. Mysterio got tagged in and he was putting on a clinic against Jericho, and was close to pinning the former champion. Ziggler made a blind tag and was dropped on the back of his head from the apron. Ziggler, now the legal man pushed Mysterio to the limits, then went inside and tried to sew this one up. Ziggler is 100% heel, and I actually started to like him, he has the finesse of Rick Martel and the style of say….Mr Perfect? In some ways yes, in some ways no; however, he does have a Rick Martel looking style. Hardy got a hot tag, Jericho got back in this, and Hardy was steam rolling through the competition with everything he had and all sorts of fast paced high spots. He hit the Whisper in the Wind but Jericho was able to kick out! This match was being sewn up nicely by Hardy, even reversing the Walls of Jericho; Hardy going up for the Swanton and connecting, looked amazing. He didn’t count on Dolph Ziggler to break things up, and therefore he couldn’t win this one. Punk shoved Hardy, the bell started ringing. Punk looked like a big heel here. I’m not sure who won, what happened, but Jericho hit a nice code breaker on Hardy. Then Jericho hit Hardy with the Walls of Jericho and continued to punish him for Punk? This whole ending was so convoluted.

WWE took a page out of TNA’s play book by completely taking a crap on a match that was otherwise perfectly watchable and going for a proper finish and ended with no questions answered and some stupid situations. I don’t know what WWE wants me to think, or wants me to see in this piece of crap finish.

What a way to ruin Smackdown, man, I keep losing on these shows.

WWE Friday Night Smackdown 6/26/09 Review

The show opened up with Vince McMahon going down to ringside! McMahon called out Theodore Long and the two talked about the show. They are going to have a cage match and the special guest referee is going to be CM PUNK! Vinnie Mac then put Long on probation!

R Truth defeated Shelton Benjamin

The first match of the night was essentially a glorified jobbers match. These two have not been in the top spotlight for some time, and it was interesting to me that they were in there doing this match. I figured a tag match would be in order, but ot so here. R Truth had things close within his reach, hitting all of his best spots, until Benjamin hit a sweet Samoan Drop and Belly to Belly overhead throw, which was picture perfect. Benjamin had this thing going his way, and he looked like the champion that was labeled The Gold standard a short while back in the WWE. Truth had to fight back, and he seemed to reach the equalizer with a nice jaw breaker, but it was short lived. Truth came back out of nowhere to hit The Lie Detector and take the win over Benjamin who is now the job standard…as he jobs to Truth.

Alicia Fox and Michelle McCool defeated Melina and Gail Kim

Remember when Gail Kim joined WWE again? Well, she was touted as a serious title contender and is now a shade of her Knockout self. I’d prefer her back in TNA where they at least let the women wrestler, I mean seriously wrestle every now and again. The match was ok at best, the girls gave it their best shot to make it entertaining, and it was obvious who out of the four could actually wrestle. Michele McCool was timing this one nicely, and when she hit Gail Kim with her finisher, I was impressed for the first time in a long time. Gail Kim and Michelle McCool might be a good feud, if wrestling is the #1 goal of WWE’s women division…not just divas.

John Morrison defeated CM Punk

What in the world? John Morrison wrestled CM Punk in a non title match, and this wasn’t even the main event. It bugs me greatly that when TRIPLE H is champ or EDGE is champ they don’t wrestle in the midcard and sometimes don’t wrestle at all on a show. This is completely dumb to me, and furthermore, why would they risk the champ getting hurt before the ppv? It’s true, the face champions have to wrestle a lot more, when they are younger, and it seems that veterans and heel champions just don’t wrestle as much. That’s lame.

Punk had early control in this match, as he should have, and Morrison put up a good amount of offense in return. That bridge suplex was impressive, wow, the match was actually getting good and then we went to commercial break. Punk put on the breaks to John Morrison’s comeback with some serious rest holds, but the action spilled to the outside with Punk trying a sunset flip, and the action spilling right into the outside. Punk catching Morrison on his shoulders was amazing, the second rope reverse superplex was impressive too, this match had some serious moments. Morrison and Punk could rope me into a ppv again…if I could afford it. Punk was going for the GTS, but Morrison got a near fall, and then rolled into a reversal with bridge pinfall for the three! I kid you not, holy crap, this reversal set was impressive and only these two were flexible enough to get it done, wow, a pretty good match. Morrison has pinned the champion clean!

Punk ended up losing his temper and hit Morrison with the GTS and the announce team kept pushing this “Punk is turning evil on us” and I think they are trying to either telegraph the heel turn or they are trying to swerve us.

Edge and Chris Jericho defeated Rey Mysterio and Jeff Hardy in a steel cage match with CM Punk as the special guest referee

This match was given a little more time than usual, and it was not half bad. Punk was trying not to get too involved, and the heels were working over Hardy and Mysterio with no mercy. Mysterio and Jericho were fighting each other, meanwhile near falls abounded, and Jericho came out on top with every counter, every motion, proving that Jericho is the best wrestler right now. The closing of this match had Hardy, Edge and Mysterio nearly knocked out, Punk got speared inadvertently and was unable to get the fast count after The Whisper in the Wind hit Edge. It looked like Hardy was going to attack Punk, but managed to get back into the match with a little help from Rey Mysterio Jr. A twist of fate tackled Jericho, but after Hardy was ready to strike Punk a spear floored Hardy and this thing was done. The tension was high, but the heels managed to capitalize on an obviously distracted Hardy. Punk looked bad, Edge looked good, Jericho looked amazing and Hardy wasn’t feeling so hot at the end.

I’m not sure what they are going to do with punk, this thing is weird, I wish I could get the ppv, but I can’t afford it. I’ll try to catch the results and hustle some money for Summerslam.

WWE Friday Night Smackdown 6/19/09 Review

The show opened up with an in ring segment with Jeff Hardy. This is lame, Hardy can’t talk on the mic and it was painfully obvious here in this interview. CM Punk was called in to the interview table, and started to talk about how he’s getting blamed for no apparent reason.

Jeff Hardy defeated Chris Jericho via countout

In the front row sat several people in Rey Mysterio masks on. This would come into play later in the match. This match had Jericho controlling the majority of the flow, hitting major spots, and forcing Hardy to win this match with ease, but not until Rey Mysterio hit a nice leg toss from the security railing onto Jericho! But there were 5 people, was it Mysterio? Wasn’t it? Smackdown finally gets some smart writing here. You had to see it, it’s clever, very clever, like when they had 25 stings come down from the rafters at Halloween Havoc 1997. I think it was 1997. This caused Chris Jericho to get counted out and it was all over.

Dolph Ziggler defeated The great Khali via disqualification

Once again the Great Khali fights Ziggler…I’m so tired of seeing these guys wrestle. But I stand by my words that state that Dolph Ziggler has vastly improved since the he first showed up as the Ziggler character. He actually has some great athleticism. Ziggler through a chair at Khali when his back was turned, Khali punched the chair, and Ziggler played dead like Eddie Guerrero used to do. The ref disqualified him and Ziggler wins again. I wasn’t completely bored with this one, although some of you might be.

Melina defeated Alicia Fox

Alicia Fox didn’t stand a chance in this match. It was short and not sweet, Melina sucks and barely carried this match at all. Post match Michelle McCool attacked Melina and I for one was cheering. I am not a big fan of the divas but Michelle McCool is showing some serious intensity, which is cool. She sucks on the mic though, but she has some intensity. Too bad the Knockouts division in TNA is still way better.

Edge defeated John Morrison

The verbal sparring between these two was good. Morrison is gaining ground and if he keeps it up, he might take some face time in the main event away from Hardy, since Hardy is leaving…so I hear. This match was a slow moving match up with not too much to write about, and it seemed that these two were somewhat evenly matched. Edge took some chances in this match and it may have cost him as Morrison was able to get some great offense in as a result. However, Edge also countered as he was the veteran in this match up, but it turned out to be a nice back and forth affair between the two. The second half of this match really went well, Edge looked like he had this thing in the bag but Morrison was able to counter the spear by jumping over edge then hitting a nice spin kick, but it wasn’t enough to put away Edge. Morrison went for the Moonlight Pain but missed and Edge hit a thunderous spear and boom….Morrison was out and it was over.

R Truth and Cryme Tyme defeated Ricky Ortiz, Charlie Haas, and Shelton Benjamin

This was just a throwaway match up with poorly constructed spots. It was a terrible match up of sorts, and had a lot of spots but it was fast. It was just a random mash up of guys and of course you knew who was going to win. It wasn’t the world’s greatest jobbers that’s for sure.

A mask vs belt match was announced for the bash ppv.

Cm Punk defeated Rey Mysterio

Mysterio started this match with lots of kicks to CM Punk’s leg. Mysterio however put his guard down a little and Punk was able to turn things more his way, if only for a few moments until Mysterio started hitting more kicks. Punk was favoring his leg as we went into a commercial break. After the break the two competitors were doing quite well, neither one truly had an upper hand at all. Punk was still favoring his leg as he was swept into the 619 position but was able to avoid it but Mysterio pulled a sweet reversal into a pin and a near fall, creating a lot of interest from the crowd at this point. Jericho attacked Rey Mysterio during a point on the outside, and Mysterio was getting counted out swiftly, while Punk was inside, but to no avail for Jericho as Mysterio got back inside and was immediately hit with the GTS and it was all over. CM Punk’s GTS plus Jericho’s interference cost Mysterio this match up. A good overall match up.

WWE Friday Night Smackdown 6/12/09 Review

The show opened up with CM Punk and the new world championship in his hands. He got on the mic and was greeted with a chorus of boos and yeahs…it was mixed. Jeff Hardy came down and he was the face of the night cause people were all for Hardy not punk. Of course Edge came out and started yelling at each other. Hardy fought off Edge, then hit Punk with the Swanton and a Twist of Fate! The crowd went nuts.

You know why I hate these segments?

Because no MATTER WHAT the champion is still the champion; Punk is still champion regardless of Hardy & Edge talking trash. Whatever….

Out came Theodore Long to fix things.

Dolph Ziggler defeated The Great Khali by countout

What in the world? Ziggler put on quite the match here, and he took some nice bumps for Khali too. What in the world is going on with the world where Khali is having half way decent matches with the likes of Dolph Ziggler? This match was not half bad, and I do believe that Ziggler is improving, since he can carry Khali to a watchable match up. I didn’t even mind that it was a countout after the dust was settled. Ziggler impressed me, which is hard to do, so hello…my name is Dolph Ziggler…isn’t bad.

Michelle McCool & Layla defeated Eva Torres and Melina

This match was interesting, because Michelle McCool was on fire. She was working stiff, and she was really showing the other women that she wasn’t a diva, and that she was actually serious about wrestling. This showed throughout, and with the face breaker, it really drove the point home. This was an ok match, a little too quick, but other than that, it was the Michelle McCool match. I kept thinking, man Undertaker is nailing that? Lucky dude.

John Morrison & R Truth defeated Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin

This match had Morrison looking like the new all star, with R Truth playing second fiddle to Morrison’s faster, harder style. Truth had some great moments, and The Moonlight Drive plus Starship Pain made this match look like a million bucks and really pushed Truth and Morrison above jobber status. Speaking of jobbers, Benjamin and Haas have to be some very expensive jobbers, because they aren’t doing much but losing to whomever needs to get a rub to the higher levels of wrestling. That Starship Pain, wow, talk about timing. It makes RVD’s split leg moonsault look like child’s play, seriously.

C.M. Punk defeated Chris Jericho

These two put together a nice match up. I don’t agree with the champion being on before the main event. However, it’s ok afterall, this match was given a little bit more time than usual matches, and these two were great overall. Highlight for me was Punk missing the clothesline and then getting hit with the Lionsault, a nice exchange. Punk kept kicking Jericho and eventually got the GTS for the win on Jericho. This match was four stars folks, I liked it a lot; it could’ve ran further, but it was a good one for Punk!

Edge defeated Jeff Hardy via dq when Cm Punk interfered

I feel that the WWE keeps throwing rematches down at me, and I have no choice but to accept it. Once again, we see Edge and Jeff Hardy wrestle. I’m sick and tired of these guys wrestling, seriously, give me something new; oh well, these two put on a show for those of us that didn’t get the ppv this past weekend. Hardy, despite favoring his side, still managed to pull off some nice near falls with a ddt, and with some high flying offensive moves. Hardy seemed like he had this thing in the bag, but Edge managed to get to the outside, followed by Hardy.

Edge threw Hardy into C.M Punk at ringside, so He ran in and attacked Edge! This caused a DQ and then Hardy ra in and started fighting Punk, then fighting Edge, and this thing turned into a melee! The last man standing after all was done was CM PUNK! Kid looked strong, and I liked it a lot.

WWE Friday Night Smackdown 5/22/09 Review

The show opened up with Edge talking trash about Jeff Hardy and how good he was at Judgment Day. He was out there talking, and out came Theodore Long, who made a rematch for Extreme Rules. Jeff Hardy came out and got a match made somehow against Edge! The winner tonight in the rematch, will get to create the stipulations for their world championship match at Extreme rules later on this month!

John Morrison and Cryme Tyme defeated Shelton Benjamin, Ricky Ortiz, and Charlie Haas

Here we go, the jobbers against…the jobbers? I’m not sure what’s up with this match is or what it was meant to prove. It seemed like the b and c wrestlers were in this match up trying to be cool. Morrison is the only one in this match that is on the way up. The other guys just seemed like they were fulfilling a contract role in the WWE, and that’s why they were in this match. That’s not to take anything away from these guys, but it just seemed cobbled together to force these guys into the public’s eye. As far as the match is concerned, it wasn’t half bad, there were hot tags, there was isolation involved, and it just seemed an odd mix of wrestlers, making obvious mistakes, and trying to bring the crowd into the match, but moreover trying to make John Morrison the better wrestler of the bunch. If you don’t believe me, just watch the closing moments, with John Morrison hitting all his moves and getting top billing from JR for winning this match via pinfall on Charlie Haas.

Alicia fox getting slapped by Melina was stupid.

The number one contender was set to get decided next…I was so over the whole thing…but whatever.

Michelle McCool defeated Gail Kim

Wow, Gail Kim is back in the wwe? Yeah, I know she’s wrestled in the WWE before, but it seems like going into this match, the WWE hasn’t really put their chips on the line with her. It’s almost like they coerced her to jump ship from TNA only to have her job out to the champion and McCool…but the match had just began when I was thinking those thoughts, and I had to wait it out. Alicia Fox tried to interfere and while Kim knocked her away, McCool hit her finisher and it was over. Gail Kim is now just another diva’s jobber, way to ruin your career huh? I don’t blame her, I’d sell out in a second, I’m broke!

C.M. Punk defeated Chris Jericho via Disqualification when Umaga interfered

Well, I didn’t see the match last night, but if it was anything like this one, I’m glad to see that the WWE is letting these smaller dude’s get a fair shake. The match was back and forth with neither man getting the dominant hand, despite the odds shifting in each direction from time to time, as they each countered each other and tried to keep the other down. The counters towards the end were classic, and rolling into the Walls of Jericho was great. However, Grisham said that Jericho won a lot of matches with the Walls, but I beg to differ. When’s the last time he won via submission? Umaga ran down to fight off Punk, causing the dq, and he had a leather strap…I’m sure there will be a leather strap match for the Extreme Rules ppv. I didn’t like the ending, but Jericho is saved a second loss, I guess.

GUESS WHAT! UMAGA CAN SPEAK PERFECT ENGLISH! NICE CONTINUITY WWE! THANKS FOR PUNCHING MY BRAIN STEM WITH YOUR STUPID WRITING!

Dolph Ziggler defeated R. Truth

I wasn’t sure where this match was headed since both guys, to me are jobbers; Dolph Ziggler was getting beat up for a good part of this match up. He was getting worked against R Truth but it was Truth that got the raw end of the deal with another embarrassing loss. Is R Truth going to get fired soon too? I don’t know, he’s not getting that title push that he was getting a few months back with Shelton Benjamin, remember that?

Khali chased down Ziggler and he ran away…end of that.

Jeff Hardy dfeated Edge

I’m so sick of WWE repetition. Seriously it’s getting tough to stand. I’ve seen this match so many times, and now I have to see it not only here but also see it at the ppv? Oh, I can’t afford the ppv, so maybe I’ll get to miss it for a change. The match had Edge getting the upper hand towards the end of the match, Hardy was looking defeated and the crowd was getting a little too quiet. That being said, Edge looked as if he had no nagging injuries and was perfect in this match until he leaped off the middle rope into a nicely executed dropkick by Jeff Hardy! Picture perfect indeed, and Hardy started to turn the tables on Edge yet again. The Spear reversal was nice, but I’ve seen it before! Give me something new to work with folks! Come on! The near falls towards the end woke me up from my pouting mood, and it was nice to see that we get a longer match on WWE programming. Hardy hit the Twist of Fate and it looked like he was getting set to win this one with the Swanton Bomb! Edge tried to block it but nope, Edge loses clean but not for the title, so now Hardy will pick the stipulations of the extreme rules match. I’m sure it will be ladder or something stupid like that. I’m tired of seeing these two wrestle, I’m sorry, this is HHH vs The Rock 1997 – 1998 all over again. I’m sick of these two wrestling each other. We’re not in 1988 we are not watching AWA or WCW give us Flair vs Steamboat classics, these are getting tired, I’m getting tired.

So what did Jeff Hardy decide?

WWE Friday NightSmackdown 4/24/09 Review

Edge started the night with an in ring mic and started to random talking crap. Edge claims that there will be a final end at the ppv this weekend.

Matt Hardy & Kane defeated Jeff Hardy & C.M. Punk

Matt and Jeff didn’t star this thing, with Jeff staring against Kane. Matt Hardy then took advantage of Jeff’s tiresome battle against Kane, jumping in and hitting as many of his moves as he could, forcing Hardy to try and simply survive. For having so much talent in this match, it really as slow to build anything worthwhile, as the match got a little boring. A Whisper in the Wind grounded Matt and Punk fought off Kane outside of the ring, leaving the two brothers in ring alone. Jeff got shoved into Kane, who was on the apron, and Matt rolled up Jeff for a pinfall victory yet again.

The Big Show defeated The Undertaker

The Big Show and The Undertaker put some stupid wrestling match on. This match was dumb, slow and stupid. The Undertaker had a few shots in, but it was The Big Show hitting two right hands and The Undertaker looked dazed and the referee called the match. STUPID! The Undertaker has wrestled Big Show many times and many times before has choked him out, but this time he acts punch drunk and stupid. Thanks WWE you have insulted the fans this time. But, that’s fine, I hear Undertaker is on his last ride with the WWE.

Maryse defeated Gail Kim in a Divas Championship Match

Maryse was in control of this match early on, with several rest moves on Gail Kim. Maryse is not that great of a wrestler and it showed a lot during this match up. Gail Kim hit an impressive Huricanrana but couldn’t get the pinfall. She then went to the top rope as Maryse was trying to leave the match and forfeit, retaining her title, but things got turned around as she lured Gail Kim away from her game plan. Maryse hit her ddt finisher and won via pinfall.

MVP defeated Chavo Guerrero

This was just another example of Chavo Guerrero getting jobbed out. Chavo didn’t get much offense in, MVP had full control at all times and hit his finishing move and it was over. What a waste of time.

Post match, Dolph Ziggler came out to challenge MVP for a title shot sooner than later.

Batista & Shane McMahon defeated Priceless

Shane McMahon shouldn’t be wrestling. However, he does play up the face in peril, with Priceless using him as a punching bag in the ring. Batista and Shane were working well together and before the primary commercial break, they were cleaning house. They were fighting well and clearing the ring with lots of power moves from Batista and fast connecting rights and lefts from Shane. When we returned from the commercial break the match broke down and Shan McMahon was isolated for easy pickings by Priceless. Batista snuck in for a spinebuster behind the Referee’s back and Shane picked up the pinfall win!

Overall the WWE Smackdown show wasn’t that bad. It had a few good matches, but a lot of it was nothing you should be too concerned about. For being the last show before the big ppv, the wwe didn’t really capitalize, so I hope the ppv lives up to the hype, otherwise we’re looking at another mediocre ppv from the WWE.

WWE Friday Night Smackdown 4/17/09 Review

The show started out with wrestling, no talking, just wrestling!

Jeff Hardy defeated The Big Show

As with all Big Show matches, he came out dominant and was just throwing his weight around. Hardy’s strategy wasn’t working at all, and Show was just hitting hard and showing off. Matt Hardy showed up right when Jeff was mounting a comeback against the Big Show and things were looking like Show was going to win. Jeff came back to the ring and hit the Whisper in the Wind, but Big Show caught him, turned around and socked Jeff Hardy in the face, then pinned him for the win! Big Show had a little bit of a battle in this match, but he managed to edge out Jeff Hardy.

Post match Matt Hardy was in the ring slapping Jeff Hardy around. This proved to be funny to me because I thought Matt was now on Raw, not Smackdown. I guess the draft doesn’t really mean anything, now does it? Lame.

The Khali kiss cam went Milf! That’s right, Khali had somewhat of a good looking milf volunteer and get into the ring. She was good looking, for a change, and Khali finally gets a fair shake!

Gail Kim defeated Maryse

Gail Kim put on a show here. Maryse wasn’t that great, and she even missed a cue and it looked bad. Gail Kim ran circles around Maryse as far as wrestling ability is concerned and I thought it was great. However, the fans were dead for this one, and it was disheartening to see no reaction to an obviously good woman wrestler. The divas should be put on notice, cause Gail Kim is impressing the crap out of me.

John Morrison defeated R Truth

Alright, I’m not too keen on these two guys, but I liked them. They were hitting hard in there, and you could tell that notion when Morrison was kicked in the chin hard with a Scissors Kick to the face. Morrison dropped R Truth on the back of his head and then hit his Finisher and BOOM, R Truth loses again; Remember when he was getting a good push? Yeah, those days are done.

Triple H was confronted by Randy Orton via Satellite…haha…it was terrible. We find out that the Monday Night raw match up they will have is going to be a No DQ match up.

The Undertaker defeated Shelton Benjamin

There was no chance in hell that Shelton Benjamin was going to win this match up. Could you believe the upset if Shelton Benjamin won this one? Remember when Maven threw out the Undertaker at the Royal Rumble way back when? The Undertaker nearly killed him, and man was that a great piece of that years Royal Rumble. Anyways, back to this match up. This match was cool, but the commercial in the middle made everyone miss a good part of the match up. However, Shelton was getting a lot of offense in, he actually almost made you believe that he had a shot at beating him. Yeah, I may have doubted whether or not Undertaker was going to win this match up. The Undertaker turned things around and gave Shelton Benjamin a picture perfect Tombstone for the easy win against the Gold Standard. I liked this match a lot, I really liked how Benjamin was hitting the big moves, and still not getting the win. You gotta respect the effort in this match up.

Dolph Ziggler defeated MVP

MVP started out this match quite fast, but Dolph Ziggler turned things around afterwards. Dolph had way too much tan, and he was definitely quite good for a beginner. I like his style, he could be a good established star if he doesn’t get in trouble for drugs again. I would cut down the tanning though, he is way too tan. However, he is doing good out there, however tonight wasn’t his night…until amidst a roll up he pulled the tights and won! That’s right, the WWE threw me a curve ball and MVP lost against Dolph Ziggler! That wasn’t half bad.

Batista defeated Ted Dibiase Jr.

Oh man, Batista is back and in full force. Ted Dibiase worked over Batista’s leg, trying to cut him down to size and forcing him to try to tire out the big man. Batista was doing a great job of cornering Batista off from his power moves. It was a good overall gameplan, and we saw shades of The Million Dollar Man in this match up, as he kept fighting through. The match would be cut short, but not before Batista gets thrown through the ropes and took a nasty bump. Ted Dibiase delivered a picture perfect Russian Leg Sweep and also dropped both feet on Batista’s abdomen, and I was on Team Dibiase at that point. He was definitely making Batista look weak, and for once, I liked a Batista match! Like all the great champions of old, Batista made a miraculous comeback and dropped Ted Dibiase with a backdrop, followed by a good Spinebuster! A spear was next and Batista was getting a second wind, limping on his hurt leg, but managed to deliver a huge Batista Bomb, which was awesome. Batista won! Who would’ve known?

Overall, Smackdown tonight was good. I liked it. I drank a Alaskan IPA while reviewing this, so it might have been that, which made me like this night. I liked how they had a lot of wrestling.
