ECW Guilty As Charged 1999 Results and Review: A Better VHS Experience

January 10, 1999 ECW held a PPV from Florida. This had an attendance of 2,600 people, but when you saw it on camera, it looked packed, as it was definitely sold out. 1999 was a great year for the company, or so I can only assume. Whatever the case may have been, I didn’t get the PPV until January 11, 1999. I got the replay and it was only $19.99 from what I remember. My stepfather said I could order it, so I did. I recall recording it onto a VHS tape, and it ended up taping over an old porno I had recorded from the Spice Network. Oh well. I have gone back to watch this on the WWE Network, and I can reassure you that this is NOT the same as the RF Video, the official DVD and the VHS that is floating around. It is completely censored, and edited, and you can see it throughout. The music has been changed, the crowd noises aren’t the same, there’s a lot of lost audio, and it’s just not great. However, the matches are there, so that’s what we will talk about here, as we are GUILTY AS CHARGED!

ECW Guilty As Charged 1999 Results

Axl Rotten and Balls Mahoney defeated The FBI, and Danny Doring and Amish Roadkill

This opening match turned into a hardcore three-way dance, and it wasn’t great. It had some good spots and the crowd was way into it. However, from a wrestling standpoint, it was not that great. I was impressed with how good Amish Roadkill was, as he was a bigger guy that could fly around the ring. The rest were just bit players, with Rotten and Mahoney getting the big win with chairs. It’s a fun opening match, but nothing great here.

Match Rating: 2 out of 5

Tajiri defeated Super Crazy

Now this is a cruiserweight match! Super Crazy and Tajiri went back and forth. They knew how to counter things, they were flying around the ring, and they were doing things that you would not see in the heavyweight division. These guys really put on a show in under 12 minutes, and it’s sad to see the current WWE division flounder when this had the crowd going insane. Great match with Tajiri picking up the win.

Match Rating: 4 out of 5

Sid Vicious defeated John Kronus

John Kronus was in ring waiting for his opponent, and out came Sid! Sid got such a huge pop, it was absolutely insane. He went into the ring and threw Kronus through a table on the outside, then brought him back in for a powerbomb and the pin. Sid Vicious would go on to WCW in 1999, but before that, this was a great squash that introduced Sid to the ECW brand for a cup of coffee.

Match Rating: 2 out of 5

The Dudley Boyz defeated New Jack and Spike Dudley

The Dudleys came out and had an open challenge for anyone that was willing to come out. Well, the answer to their challenge was none other than Spike Dudley and New Jack! They came out with plunder and beat the crap out of the Dudley Boyz, but eventually they lost the match when the numbers game was just too much for them.

Match Rating: 3 out of 5

Rob Van Dam defated Lance Storm

I was never a big Lance Storm fan, and this didn’t do him any favors. It was ok. The match had some moments, but it was clear that the two didn’t mesh that well overall. I’ve seen way better from the two of these guys. They did put on a good match, though, nothing great, but good enough for a 20 minute TV Title match. This was seriously edited, so I hated the WWE version.

Match Rating: 2 out of 5

Justin Credible defeated Tommy Dreamer in a Stairway To Hell Match

Wow, Justin Credible should’ve received a better shake in WWE. Him and dreamer put on a 4 star classic that is absolutely great. You’re going to find this hard hitting match to be an instant classic. Credible took a beating, but in the end Tommy Dreamer was the one that got the big beat down. He was beaten to a pulp and right when he was about to get the upper hand, out came Terry Funk with a trash can to beat the holy hell out of Dreamer. Credible would get the victory here, and Tommy would once again be on the receiving end of a beat down.

Match Rating: 4 out of 5

Taz defeated Shane Douglas for the ECW World Title

The culmination of months of feuding came down to the these two getting a one on one brawl. This went all over the building. The two fought back and forth through the crowd, and onto the ramps placed throughout the arena. It all went down in under 25 minutes with Taz eventually getting the big win. Note that Shane Douglas had a cast on his arm, and looked a little heavy. Taz was in his prime here and the big win finally cemented him as a huge player in ECW and the world. I loved it.

Match Rating 4 out of 5

Overall ECW Guilty as Charged was a great show, but with the Network, you are getting an edited, neutered version of the event. It is still worth a watch, especially for the cruiserweight match, and the final two matches which were just brutal. ECW was absolutely great in 199i if you ask me. I’ll have more reviews as I go along watching more of these events from the past.

WCW Fall Brawl 2000 Results and Review A Better VHS Experience

I read online that this was the last great WCW pay per view, and therefore I had to watch it. The reason why I’m filling this site with more reviews, is simple, I love wrestling, and while the current product is grand, I want to go back and see the old stuff, and lots of things I missed while I was going through college and other things in my life.

With that in mind, here is WCW Fall Brawl 2000 Results and Review!

The show went on air on September 17, 2000 and was held at the HSBC Arena. The crowd here was 8,638 screaming WCW fans, which were definitely in decline at this point.

Elix Skipper defeated Kwee Wee (WCW Cruiserweight Championship)

This is an interesting match up, and at around 11 minutes, it was actually really good. Major Gunns, I met at an XPW show, and she was just as hot, albeit she was freezing when I met her. She’s hot here, and apparently a porn star, the scenes I saw her in weren’t that hot, but that’s just me. As for this match, Skipper was flopping around and Kwee Wee took some hard bumps off the apron. This was a good match, however, and I enjoyed it for what it was.

The Misfits In Action defeated 3 Count

3 Count is a breath of fresh air on these later WCW pay per views. The talent that these 3 guys have is insane. I can’t believe they didn’t get more of a shot in WWE when the company was purchased. The Misfits are familiar faces from the Wall to Chavo Guerrero, I kid you not. This was post Eddie leaving, mind you. Overall, a good match with lots of action, although nothing too grand. Wall going through a table was fun, but 3 Count should’ve won if you ask me.

The Harris Brothers defeated Kronik in a First Blood Chain Match

Not a stellar outing. However, the guys brawled, and eventually it was over. I don’t have a lot to say about this one, it was a throwaway match and felt that way. The guys bladed.

Lance Storm defeated General Rection (WCW US Championship)

This wasn’t a great match. This was a throw away match. Hugh Morris apparently changed his name, and well this match was not grand. It went around 6 minutes, and it was sloppy and boring. I did appreciate Lance Storm trying hard to get this going, but it was just awkward to say the least.

The Filthy Animals vs. The Natural Born Thrillers (NO CONTEST)

This was the infamous match in which Paul Orndorf got seriously injured. He was ripped, but with a little arm, since he had a stroke and his arm’s strength decayed. Either way, he goes for a piledriver, and shatters vertebrae straining, and goes completely numb. The match was called after 16 minutes, and it was sad to see someone get seriously hurt in a match.

Shane Douglass and Torrie Wilson defeated Billy Kidman and Madusa in a Scaffold Match

This was the best scaffold match I’ve ever seen. Torrie Wilson was scared, so she didn’t get involved as much. Madusa and Shane Douglas fought as well as Kidman. Madusa and Kidman took bumps off the scaffold onto rigged areas, so that they weren’t hurt. Not bad, but again, it’s a scaffold match.

Sting defeated The Great Muta and Vampiro in a triangle match

This was interesting, with the story being told that Sting helped Great Muta, even though they’ve been enemies since the 1990s. Vampiro got lost in the shuffle here. He had a championship belt, but wasn’t sure why or which one. This was an ok match, albeit only 5 minutes long, with a few spots to even mention. Overall, not a great one, even though Sting won. I guess that’s all I can say about that.

That 70’s Guy Mike Awesome defeated Jarrett in a Bunkhouse Brawl

Holy crap, what a match. 9 minutes of brutality, with Jarrett actually taking hardcore match bumps. Highlights included Jarrett getting through into a table wrapped in barbed wire, and I kid you not, holy crap, Gary Coleman interfered. Coleman got obliterated with a chair, and I do mean obliterated, but it was Awesome that picked up the win. This was a wild brawl. Jarrett actually put on a good display and the crowd went insane for Coleman and the guitar shot that looked incredible. He seriously got hit in a great visual.

Scott Steiner defeated Goldberg in a No DQ Match

I heard great things about this match, so I was interested in seeing what they did in this one. All I can say is that it was wild! Steiner and Goldberg were throwing every suplex out there, every powerslam, and at one point Steiner was caught off the top rope and drilled into the canvas. This was a fine match, Steiner’s best since the early 1990s, until Midajah and again, I kid you not Vince Russo appeared and hit Goldberg with bats and pipes! After knocking Goldberg out Steiner won with the Steiner Recliner, and that was that. This was a perhaps the best brawl, and wrestling combo match I’ve seen from Steiner ever, holy crap. Oh and the strength of Goldberg, geez, you’ll like this, unless you’re an idiot.

Booker T defeated Kevin Nash in a Steel Cage Match

This was not a grand match. Kevin Nash phoned it in, Booker did alright, but it was just a boring 9 minute main event, and just not good. It was rushed, and the fans were sent home happy.

Overall Rating: 7 out of 10

While there were some wild moments in this one, the longest match went to a no contest at 16 minutes long. Other than that, this was a disorganized pay per view. However, I will say that the Steiner versus Golberg match was perhaps the finest brawl I’ve seen in a long time. Watch it, and look out for Goldberg’s insane power as he really threw around Steiner. Steiner is no slouch either, but Goldberg was no selling a lot of offense. Russo and Midajah with baseball bats and pipes was cartoonish, but overall, this is a C grade pay per view as WCW was on their way out.

ECW Living Dangerously 1998 Results and Review

The Asbury Park Convention Hall in New Jersey was the home for the first pay per view with the name Living Dangerously from ECW. I went back and watched it to review it for this site, and have a few notes to give, and random ideas as well. Now, you can get an edited version of this on the WWE network, but I recommend picking up the official release so that you don’t get it “edited” and watered down. However, it’s really a good effort on the WWE streaming side, so it’s up to you what you want to do.

ECW Living Dangerously Review

Jerry Lynn and Chris Chetti defeated The F.B.I

This was a somewhat forgettable match. It had a few moments, but overall, it was a fast paced opener that didn’t really highlight Lynn’s best. However, it was a good opening match up. Chetti was the highlight, being trained and featured in the ECW brand.

Masato Tanaka defeated Doug Furnas

For those of you young people out there, Furnas was in WWE for a while with a tag partner. He showed up in ECW here after getting thrown into the mix there in WWE’s bolstering tag division. He didn’t do much there, but here he got a lost in under 10 minutes against Tanaka. Not either one of these individuals best match.

Rob Van Dam defeated 2 Cold Scorpio

This by far was the second to best match of the night. RVD really showed up to showcase his skills in this one. 2 Cold Scorpio (Flash Funk in WWE) put on a showcase as well. The two nearly went 30 minutes in this match, and it was never a dull moment. These two could go, and it showed. RVD picks up the win, but it was not easy. Look out for this one, it’ll surprise you how good it truly was.

New Jack and Spike Dudley defeated The Dudley Boyz and Balls Mahoney and Axl Rotten in a 3 way dance

This was a classic hardcore match. Lots of plunder, lots of hard hitting spots, and blood. The highlight was Spike and New Jack jumping off the balcony through tables. That was a classic high spot. However, this too was a bit on the forgettable side.

Tommy Dreamer defeated Justin Credible

This was an interesting one as Jenna Jameson came out to do a quick interview with Justin Credible. She was top heavy, and didn’t have all the plastic surgery yet. She was hot, I admit it. Anyways, Tommy Dreamer picks up the win with some interference from Beulah (his wife), and it’s a shame that Justin Credible didn’t get more of a fair shake in WWE when he was Aldo Montoya. This was as good as you’d expect, with some great moments, and nice overall offense from Dreamer. Credible bounced around a bit, but in the end, fell to Dreamer and Beulah’s interference.

Bam Bam Bigelow defeated Taz for the ECW Television Championship

This is by far the best match on the card. The reason being is simple, Taz and Bigelow flow quite well in the ring. Bigelow here comes across as seriously powerful, but Taz was able to lift and suplex the crap out of him. Taz truly impressed me when he straight dead lifted Bam Bam over his head, and through a table. This spot alone is worth your time. Dead weight man, you can see Taz about to buckle and then just pulls him over. Furthermore, Taz nearly knocks himself out cold throwing Bigelow off of the stage and hits his head on a guard rail. Epic match.

Sabu defeated The Sandman in a Singapore Cane Match

Not much to say about this one. Sabu got help from RVD. The best part was RVD was dressed as Sabu, so that was a bit of fun. This had a lot of brawling, and Sabu hitting his famous spots. Sandman got drunk, and beat up, that’s about it.

Lance Storm and Al Snow defeated Chris Candido and Shane Douglas

This match started with Lance Storm having a “mystery partner”. What happened next was fun. Sunny came out and said she was the mystery partner. The match moved ok, but it wasn’t until Sunny turned on Storm that things got really fun. The mystery partner was revealed to be Al Snow! The lights went out and the arena was full of foam heads! Things went insane, as there was a hole in the ring from the earlier match. Al Snow pinned Douglas, and this match was done fast. It wasn’t much of a match, but it had a fun finish with the visual of thousands of foam heads.

The number one reason why I recommend getting this DVD is simple, Bam Bam Bigelow versus Taz. One hell of a match, and Taz really put on a show. Dead lifting Bigelow through a table, holy crap, that's all I can say about this one. 2 Cold Scorpio and Van Dam put on a clinic too, but it was the TV title match that takes the cake here.
