WWE Monday Night Raw 8/10/09 Review

The show is in Calgary, Bret Hart country! The crowd usually cheers the heels, but not tonight, they were all Cena. Orton started the show ranting and raving, until John Cena showed up and started yelling at Orton, telling him he sucks etc. Things were about to jump off…then out came the Tag Champs.

The crowd blew up for Jericho, easily the biggest pop heard on television, easily.

Gail Kim defeated Kelly, Beth Phoenix, and Alicia Fox

The divas had a four way match and overall it wasn’t half bad. The match had some heavy moves, specifically from Beth Phoenix and Gail Kim. In fact, those were the only two wrestlers that actually can turn on the wrestling juice, so to speak. I admit, I’m not fan, but Kim and Phoenix did put on some good points and made this match, albeit short, passable. I liked it, but only because it didn’t suck as bad as last week’s diva match.

Sergeant Slaughter came out to make fun of Canadians, and heel it up, I guess. I didn’t care, I was too busy writing a comment on newser about how Obama isn’t Hitler…yeah, I’m tired, I don’t mind the Joker Socialism thing, that’s clever, but for a major news source to post an article about him being Hitler? Come on! I didn’t vote for him, but whatever.

Jack Swagger defeated Evan Bourne

We get a rematch, I don’t know why, Swagger already squashed at one point and yes Bourne has beaten Swagger, but I for one didn’t want to really watch this. Evan Bourne had a few moments, he was flying high trying to get things done, but it was Swagger who was on point tonight, with some major pain for Evan Bourne including dropping him with his finisher. Swagger once again proves that he can be the next big thing, if he can overcome that lisp, that’s all I’m saying.

Triple H was in Texas trying to find Shawn Michaels. He found Shawn Michaels flipping burgers at a diner. Yep.

Canadian Kid defeated Eugene

Eugene came out and defeated some random jobber in a Canadian mask, it was terrible; the match was a contract on a pole match, sadly. Eugene managed to put up a good fight, but he didn’t grab the contract, it was Calgary Kid that got the contract from the pole!

Calgary Kid then pulled his mask off to reveal that it was none other than THE MIZ!

The Miz is back in another WWE Loophole, whatever.

The Big Show defeated Randy Orton via countout

The Big Show and Randy Orton put on a match, mainly Big Show was pummeling Randy Orton, with Orton cowering on the bottom rope trying to make it through this match without having to fight Big Show one on one. It was Big Show that was looking like the champion in this one, confident and easily winning this match. At one point Orton was trying to get counted out, and I thought for sure he’d run back to the ring, but nope, he let himself get counted out and The Big Show wins…Orton runs away like a chump.

MVP The Masterpiece defeated Chris Masters

This match wasn’t that great, but it did allow Chris Masters to show that he’s back on his game. However, I did notice he’s still slow, painfully slow at times, and relying heavily on a rest holds. MVP was just trying to hold onto this match, without getting too worn out, and managed a nice overhead suplex with release, and bounced his way through to a comeback from the devastating rest holds of Masters. MVP hit the Playmaker and this thing was all over. Masters is done, in my book, he sucks and is slow; MVP hitting the Playmaker was the best thing to happen in this match.

Post match Chris Masters hit the Masterlock while Swagger yelled at MVP.

Triple H and Shawn Michaels have a great skit mid way through with Triple H joining Shawn flipping burgers. Then amidst getting yelled at by his Boss at work, Shawn superkicks his boss! YES! Then he superkicks a little girl! I wish I could do that at my job…I hate my job…I thought this site would pay some bills…it hasn’t…I’m broke…man I wish I had a friend like Triple H to get scripted into my life and get me a lot of money…alas…it’s not to be.

Sgt Slaughter came out and then came on the Bret Hart music, the arena went nuts, I went nuts, I read earlier that Hart might be in Calgary tonight, and NOPE it was Duggan that came out. I got swerved…lame.

Legacy defeated Mark Henry and Hornswoggle

Legacy had a hard time with Mark Henry, as the big man was in full control of this match up. However, the little guy kept wanting into the match, but he missed the splash and Dibiase hit his DreamStreet finisher on Hornswoggle, winning the match. It was sad.

Next week’s GM is going to be Freddie Prinze Jr…..yep.

John Cena vs Chris Jericho No Contest

Chris Jericho was supposed to be the fan favorite here, and for the most part he was. This match was all Jericho, hitting most of his moves, getting out of the way in time, and making quick and easy work of John Cena’s comebacks. I wish all wrestlers had the timing of Jericho, it would make for a far better wrestling experience, but just like Highlander, there can only be one! Jericho had the Walls of Jericho in, but Cena reversed it, and that’s when Orton ran down and to distract Jericho, the bell range signaling the match is over, and Jericho hit the Codebreaker. Too little too late, and Jericho attacked Orton, only to get thrown out of the ring!

Big Show ran down and landed a Chokeslam on Orton!

Big show & Chris Jericho vs John Cena & Randy Orton will be next week’s featured match.

The end of the night was met with mixed emotions by me, Orton hit the RKO at the exact same time John Cena was hitting the Attitude Adjustment! Shades of the Diamond Cutter + Fireman’s Carry from Bam Bam Bigelow and DDP from their WCW title run was heard around the room!

  1. Thought it was a decent show, but why on Earth does HBK need a job flipping burgers after he got all that money from JBL? very strange, but guess they needed some sort of storyline
