TNA Impact 8/13/09 Review

We opened up with a match right away, which could spell disaster, since it was a knockouts match.

Chrsty Hemme defeated Sojourner Bolt

This match was awkward, Hemme was making her return to the ring after a long absence, and she showed some Ring Rust during this match up. Bolt was definitely in control overall, and she was wild in ring, looking sloppy in regards to her execution of her moves. The worst though, was a botched back body drop that had Bolt land on her neck! It looked horrible, and it was obvious that she was loopy afterwards. Christ Hemme won with a Fire Crotch Guillotine for the three count. This was one of the sloppiest women’s match I’ve ever seen.

Hernandez defeated Doug Williams

Hernandez one again was trying to prove that he was a solid single’s wrester, much like many other former tag team specialists. He was in full control early on, hitting some major high spots, and heavy hitting moves. The best of course was his delayed vertical suplex, which had Williams down and out. Williams came back for a few moments, but it wasn’t long, as Super Mex hit the sit out Powerbomb and won the match.

Post match the British Invasion attacked, and Hernandez was in control until Big Rob hit him in the face with a steel brief case.

Erik Young & Sheik Abdul Bashir defeated Jesse Neil & Rhino

TNA is notorious for making matches that make no sense, and are in no way indicative of a further plot point or storyline. That’s ok, if the matches are great, as WWF did in the old days. These mash up tag matches with guys that aren’t on tv often, is NOT something that I’m a fan of. When’s the last time we saw Jesse Neil and Rhino? Seriously, we haven’t seen these two in so long, that at this point I don’t care about them, and they perform like jobbers. With that said, Erik Young and Bashir were putting the boots to Neil and were in full control for the majority of the match. In fact, Rhino was never tagged into this match, and lost the match for his team. Neil is NOT advancing, much like Maven in WWE. This match sucked. I guess Rhino and Neil might split sooner than later. Especially since Rhino gored Neil.
ODB & Tara defeated Awesome Kong & Angelina Love

This match wasn’t that ood opening up, but then the heat got turned on. ODB and Tara went to the top rope, and this spelled disaster. ODB jumped off and was caught by Awesome Kong and others. Tara leaped of thee to top and The Beautiful People didn’t catch her as she landed, and I kid you not, Head first into the concrete floor! Tara was clutching her head as we went to commercial break, and it looked terrible. I’m not sure if she’s going to be ok or not, but she really took a hit to the floor, face first off the top rope! Cody Deaner at one point was ready to punch Awesome Kong, but instead he kissed Awesome Kong! Kong then brought him into the ring and received The Awesome Bomb! Immediately afterwards, Tara rolled up Awesome Kong and won this match for her team. This match was boring, but Tara’s fall was great.

Scott Steiner defeated Brother Ray in a no dq match

These two put on an ok match up. Steiner is still carrying too much weight, and it showed as the match went on. He opened up fast, trying really hard to bump, but as ray put on some heavier offense, he started to slow down and it was obvious he was being out wrestled by what seems like a “fatter” man. Booker T and Brother Devon got involved, then the British Invasion ran down to distract Team 3D and that’s when Steiner threw Brother Ray through a table and pinned him for the win. This match was terrible, but not the worst I’ve seen ever.

Mick Foley and Kevin Nash had a contract signing, and I was waiting for this thin to turn south, it never happened. Foley and Nash had the most boring contract signing ever, with neither man fighting the other or breaking the table. The whole purpose of this signing was to waste my time. Thanks TNA, for ruining things for me, You guys are really a joke at this point.

Matt Morgan defeated Aj Styles

I’ve already seen this match twice, and each time it wasn’t half bad. This one though? This match just seemed forced at times, with Aj purposely giving a half step to Matt Morgan. Was he saving energy? I’m not sure, but Aj Styles spent most of this match getting worked over by Matt Morgan, and Morgan for once looked completely dominant. No longer is he the stuttering giant from WWE, he was pummeling Styles with heavy moves, including a picture perfect fallaway slam, which brought forth shades of Scott Hall aka Razor Ramon! Morgan made a mistake, and Styles capitalized. Morgan even tried to go to the top rope, but was fought tooth and nail by Styles. Morgan got hit with a huge Pele, and fell off the middle rope, which was actually a cool move, but Styles could not win. After a springboard went awry, Styles got nailed in the face with the Carbon Footprint and pinned Styles! Morgan will go on to face Angle and Sting in the title match.

Post match, The Main Event Mafia came down to celebrate.

  1. Im to the point that Im watching TNA out of pity. I want them to succeed so badly that Im literally suffering through most of their shows. This was one of the worst Episodes Ive seen from TNA. Yes, the contract was a waste of time and absolutely stupid when Mick put himself through the table. It baffles me how one week, mick is screaming and going nuts from hatred for the MEM, but then the next week, he can just stand in the ring and talk and literally joke around with them, as he did with Nash last night. And why did Angle get so hostile so quickly when Morgan asked him did he want him to help Angle retain the title? Angle's response was ridiculous. Its like they had to hurry up and get them pissed at each other before the show went off.
WWE and TNA are both getting to be a chore to watch. WWE drags fueds out for way too long and they get to repetitive. TNA are working on all the wrong things. The new guys suck on the mic, and the older guys are getting slower and slower.
I dont care how good you are, if you suck on the mic, youre most likely gonna fail. Steiner is one of the few that made it despite his speech problems. Ric Flair and The Rock are examples of guys who werent the greatest wrestlers, but could work a mic and became huge! So PLEASE tna...TEACH YOUR YOUNG GUYS HOW TO TALK!
