Monday Night Raw 11/23/09 Review

The show was supposed to start with Jesse Ventura, but instead it was Randy Orton that we got. Randy Orton started whining about how he needs to get a title shot against John Cena. Again? I hope this never happens.

Jesse the Body Ventura finally made his way own to the ring, and started to call out Orton. Jesse Ventura said that a revolution will take place, and that the next wwe title contender will get a title shot, the only catch? They can only be someone that has never been a world championship!

There will be qualifying matches through the night, the winners will got to a battle royal, and the winner will get a title shot.

Kofi Kingston defeated Dolph Ziggler

Ziggler and Kofi? I had some high hopes, all things considered. Ziggler started the aggressor, and Kofi had to battle back, but was up to the task. The match had some great spots, with dead on timing. Kofi hit his line up of moves, and Ziggler was step by step avoiding Kingston’s more prominent moves, until he made one quick mistake and Kingston finally made him pay.

Sheamus defeated Finlay

Now this is something, Finlay and Sheamus! Wow, this should be interesting. Finlay started this match by hitting Sheamus hard, as if he was going to win this one. But it was Sheamus that seemed to be in control and after hitting what looked like a Razor’s Edge, he pinned Finlay. Man, Finlay is on a major losing streak.

Post match, Sheamus beat up Finlay some more. Finlay needs back up, big time.

CM Punk gave a heel promo before his match, the usual.

John Cena defeated CM Punk

CM Punk and John Cena? Free? Man, WWE is giving the matches away tonight. It started with Punk in control and Cena powering through some of his moves. Punk fought Cena’s onslaught of power moves, and Cena reversed the initial GTS attempts. Eventually Punk was hit with the STF and it looked like Punk was going to tap, but managed to get out, and knock Cena hard with a huge boot to the head. Both men couldn’t one up each other enough for a win, and it was interesting to note that while I knew where this match was going, they didn’t make it a squash match. Cena took Punk to the top rope and hit a huge Attitude Adjustment, winning a hard fought match. Despite Punk’s loss, it was still a good match up.

R Truth, MVP, and Mark Henry defeated Chavo Guerrero, Jack Swagger, and Chris Masters

This was such a fast match, that I didn’t even have time to enjoy it. It was all the red team, and that’s about it. They won with ease.

Dx had a funny bit, and we find out that they are being sued by Hornswoggle.

Evan Bourne vs Primo (no contest)

Primo was supposed to be in this match, but he got beat up by Randy Orton on his way down to the ring.

I can’t believe that Primo is still employed.

Randy Orton defeated Evan Bourne

Randy Orton would be allowed to fight and see if he could get into the battle royal later on, but he would have to beat Evan Bourne. Man, if Orton wins, I’m going to be really upset folks…I can not ever get behind an Orton vs Cena match, ever again. Why does the WWE even employ Bourne? Bourne loses again, in not so dramatic fashion. Orton wins…I hate wwe right now.

Mickie James, Melina, and Kelly Kelly defeated Michelle McCool, Layla, and Jillian
Special guest time keeper: The Gobbly Gooker

This match sucked. Besides the outfits, there was nothing to see here. This match was so stupid…I hate the divas.

Inside the outfit, guess who? Maryse!

Dx defeated The Hart Dynasty

No surprise here. The match did seem to swing into the favor of The Hart Dynasty early on, but it was short lived. Micheals and Triple H couldn’t let anyone on the roster get glory tonight, since they did job for Cena at the ppv. So they win, in not so dramatic fashion.

Batista came out to ringside to cut a promo.

Kane came out and punked out Batista! That’s right, Kane Punked out Batista!

Legacy defeated Cryme Tyme

Wow, this was a lackluster match with little to no merit. I thought it was going to get good, but it turned out to be terrible.

Sheamus won a #1 Contender Battle Royal
Featuring commentary from Vince McMahon and Jesse The Body Ventura

The participants were all the winners from tonight.

This was a slow moving match up with not a whole lot of merit. The final three was interesting. Sheamus, Kofi, and Orton were the final three and Orton and Kofi were killing each other. Orton hit a nice neckbreaker on Sheamus, basically burying him and his "tough guy" persona.

Kofi threw out Randy Orton!

Sheamus threw out Kofi Kingston!

Yep...Sheamus is the #! contender to the WWE championship!

WTF! That's all I can say about this night in wrestling.

They had a contract signing between John Cena and Sheamus and Cena went through a table. The WWE Championship will get defended in a tables match!
