WWE Smackdown 1/2/09 Results and Review

That’s right we’re in a new year and all things are great for WWE, we start the show with Triple H and Vickie Guerrero!

Finlay and The Great Khali defeated Hawkins and Ryder

This match was jobber central. The Great Khali and Finlay cleaned house with ease. It’s funny to see that the former champions are getting screwed over. Why do they even still work for wwe? It just doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.

Ezekiel & The Brian Kendrick defeated Jesse and Festus

This match was interesting to say he least. Jesse was on the receiving end of punishment from Ezekiel, causing the win. Overall this match was ok overall, but nothing special here. Just another jobber match, but you know what? It really made Ezekiel and Kendrick look awesome. I still think that Kendrick should get a chance at a singles title instead of once again getting a tag team title match or something with Ezekiel.

Kozlov defeated Hurricane Helms

I can not believe how bad things are getting with Helms. Last week Helms was battling for a title, this week? He was getting squashed in a match. I guess Helms is just like D-Lo Brown, he comes back gets a push and then just gets squashed by Kozlov. What a boring match, this match sucked, I’ll be honest. I like Kozlov but he’s just bulldozing everyone, and he doesn’t have the charisma that Bill Goldberg had in WCW when he had his streak going. Lame.

A couple of promos:

Jim Ross was announcing the participants in the rumble, only to have Shelton Benjamin come out and interrupt. That prompted the Undertaker to come out and beat him up! Big pop for the Undertaker during this segment, and he didn’t even get too sweaty. Good paycheck for the dead man.

Michelle McCool beat the crap out of this other diva. McCool is crazy, and she looks insane when she’s beating people up. I am genuinely scared for the Undertaker, who I hear likes her or something. (this is just a rumor that I overheard)

Kizarny defeated MVP

MVP is just a loser now. I don’t know where they are going with him at all, he’s once again jobbing out. Kizarny makes his debut, and it was not impressive at all. This was not a great debut at all. Kizarny was no impressive at all, and I’m not sure how long he is going to last in today’s fast paced world of wwe. We’ll see what they do with him, and if HHH will hold him down the roster.

The Hardy Boys defeated Edge & The Big Show

Your standard Hardy boys match up here. Edge and Big Show did work well together for the most part, and they had a good amount of fast tags and made things hard for the Hardys on several occasions in this match up. The Big Show walked out on Edge towards the end of this match and the Hardy’s took advantage. They basically decimated Edge and this match was all over too fast. Edge got worked, and man that was exciting. Edge just had no chance against these two high flyers. Great ending to an otherwise lackluster night of wrestling.

  1. I've heard that MVP has been saying he's quitting at a lot of the road shows after his losses, and that as he keeps losing, the audiences are starting to get behind him and cheer for him when he starts getting ahead in a match.

I've also read some speculation that he may end up at RAW before the draft.
