WWE Friday Night Smackdown 4/10/09 Results and Review Right After Wrestlemania

WWE Friday Night Smackdown 3/10/09 Results

The Big Show defeated Kofi Kingston
The Great Khali defeated Santino
Gail Kim defeated Michelle McCool
Priceless defeated The Colons Non Title Match
Matt Hardy defeated Jeff Hardy in a Stretcher Match

WWE Friday Night Smackdown 3/10/09 Review

The first Smackdown opened up with Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy into a scuffle, ending with Matt Running away like a punk. Teddy Long came out and said that tonight there would be a stretcher match between the brothers Hardy.

The Big Show defeated Kofi Kingston

Once again, proof that the WWE doesn’t need a draft or roster shake up. Kofi is on Smackdown fighting Big Show, and Show was hurting Kofi with huge right hands, and really showing off his size. Kofi got some great shots in, but overall it wasn’t enough to get the Big show down and it was Big Show who came on top. Show hit kofi with that hard right hand and it was all over.

Proving yet again that the WWE does not need a roster split, Santino was introduced.

The Great Khali defeated Santino

Santino got dismantled in 20 seconds. Santino is funny, but man, I wish they would let him wrestle. Khali wanted to kiss Santino’s “sister” and it didn’t happen, so he beat up Santino and won the match. Lame squash match up.

Gail Kim defeated Michelle McCool

This match was not half bad. McCool is not that great of a wrestler at all, and it showed here. Gail Kim could carry this match if McCool were way better, but instead Kim was taking some major shots and doing a lot of bumping. She ended up winning with a quick counter, and she’s on the way to getting a title shot, I’m sure.

The Cutting Edge returned and the guest was John Cena. It was sad, and it sucked. Edge, from what I read online, is nursing an injury right now so he probably won’t win the title. Cena needs to turn heel like the world depends on it.

Priceless defeated The Colons

Once again, NO NEED FOR A DRAFT! The two teams in this match up were on different brands, and they fought each other quite well. This match seemed evenly matched, considering that these teams haven’t wrestled each other on television before. The Legacy team was fighting hard and ended up winning this match, somewhat easier than I thought they would. The teams did put on a good overall lengthy tag team match and I liked it for the most part. I didn’t like the post match, and I didn’t like that Randy Orton was there to raise the hands of his team mates. It’s stupid to think that there is a draft coming up and yet no one abides by the separations.

Matt Hardy defeated Jeff Hardy in a Stretcher Match

The Hardy Brothers fought in a nice Stretcher match. Matt hardy had all new tights, which were lame. They were skin tight and lame. The match was quite brutal and Jeff was getting worked most of the match up, even though he did throwdown some interesting hits before it was all said and done. The overall match up ended with Matt Hardy getting the hard fought win, and this match failed to impress me. It had some good moments, but it was just your average Hardy match up. Nothing too great here.

Raw Results 9/29/08 and Review

Michael Cole said that this Raw is on the biggest week in WWE History. Seriously? This week is bigger than Wrestlemania week? I think he’s just trying to push it a little since Smackdown is moving to a different channel and we are having a ppv this weekend. Speaking of which, I have tickets to Monday Night Raw next week! I’ll be there row 11 at the Key Arena in Seattle for Raw live! I’ll most likely not have a sign, but I will be opposite the hard camera.

Batista defeated Santino

Santino does his comic routine at the expense of Batista. He calls him brainless and also he throws up the Honka meter, but that was to no avail as the animal beat the crap out of Santino and won this match easily. Batista defeated Santino in a non title match, and I’m not sure what this proves. What a waste of time, I knew the outcome, but I didn’t like how this went down. I would have rather had Santino win by a fluke, but that’s ok, Batista is the one that really need to get over, right? I guess not, since immediately after the match up, JBL came in with a clothesline from hell! Knocking out Batista and taking away any glory that came from that win.

The Miz defeated JTG

This match wasn’t too bad, but it wasn’t all that good. The Miz has definitely improved since the first time I ever saw him on WWE programming during the Tough Enough series. The Miz isn’t the most electrifying man in sports entertainment, but he’s improving and this match showed it. JTG put on a good show, but I didn’t really care about this match overall. I don’t watch the dirt sheet and I don’t watch the Cryme Tyme online show, so pushing this feud via online shows is stupid, since the majority of the fans are probably not watching these two shows. The match didn’t take forever and The Miz won after a distraction, and it was all said and done.

Jillian might not be able to sing, but she’s got the biggest rack I’ve seen on Raw in a long time.

Jamie Noble & Mickie James defeated Katie Lea & Paul Burchill

The backstage segment that Jamie Noble had with Jillian was somewhat funny, and that shoutout to Beck was ok. The new guy showed up, and I guess he’s suppose to be the second coming of Val Venis, well at least the whole pornstar gimmick. However, by name only so far; which is a side point anyway. The match was ok for what it was. Standard mixed tag team match up, and this wasn’t all that great at all. Mickie James showed up, and that was great in my book. However, is it just me or has Mickie James lost her edge? She just isn’t as good without a better heel, and if Katie Lea is her main villain, I’m not sure if I buy it at all, so much so that I don’t buy it at all! I don’t really like the wwe divas and this match proved why I don’t. The two women tried to put on a match, but whenever they were in the ring, I was bored. Jamie Noble did a fine job of rescuing this match and actually defeated Paul Burchill! Seriously, Jamie Noble won against Paul, and guess what? I think the wwe only has room for one Paul, and Burchill is not him, so I’m going to just state this first, so you read it here first: The WWE Wishes their best on the future endeavors of Paul Burchill. What do you think? Is he just on a downward spiral or is he going to get a second shot? I think it’s all over for Pirate Paul…or whatever gimmick he is now.

Lance Cade came out to cut a promo, and I was bored.

Team Priceless, Manu, and Kane defeated CM Punk, Rey Mysterio, Kofi Kingston, and Evan Bourne

This match immediately reminded me of the old Survivor Series matches. At least in the early goings, these types of matches are always fun to watch because they are so fast paced and there are so many different spots that can be performed. Plus you had a good amount of high flyers on one team and a lot of big guys on the other. This was really good if you saw it, you were in for a treat. Match of the night for sure, as all the wrestlers had a shot to show their stuff, and although it wasn’t the longest match in the world, it had enough follow through to entertain me, and watching the younger guys mix it up with Kane was definitely cool. Standout points were definitely from Evan Bourne, Rey Mysterio and his team. They really took things to Kane’s team and this match immediately had the crowd going nuts. We get a commercial break and on the return the bad guys have full control of this match and they were really putting the boots to C.M. Punk, who was the only non-high flyer on the good guys team here. He really took a beating at the hands of Manu and Kane, but eventually got the hot tag. The match really didn’t go where I thought it was going to go, as Rey Mysterio had Kane basically beat, but got thrown over the top rope by a member of team priceless, and the legal man, Kofi Kingston, jumped in and tried to get Kane down. Kofi jumped to Kane’s shoulders, no easy feat, and got dropped on the back of his head for his troubles, Kane then picked up the victory for his team and Kofi was left laying in the middle of the ring knocked out. Great match up for what it was, and I liked it a lot. This match was fast, fun, and easy on the eyes. Best match of the week so far, as it had a little bit of everything, and really made everything up to this point suck.

Adamle cuts a promo only to get interrupted by Randy Orton. Orton whines a lot, and then JBL comes out, only to get Batista out there to knock him out. Yeah, this was lame, you can read about it on another site.

Santino also had a funny bit that will most likely lead him to cheating on the Glamazon, which is interesting to say the least.

Jillian & The Glamazon defeated Candice Michelle & Kelly Kelly

The divas match was a little more hard hitting than I expected. They really worked Candice in this match, and I don’t think she’s ready for the ring. Her body looks a little flabby and not toned yet. Watch the match closely and you’ll see that while she’s thin, she doesn’t really have anything going for her besides her boobs. Same could be said of Jillian, but she has a few good gymnastic moves that I didn’t expect her to pull off and she did in fact do them well. To Candice’s credit, she’s improving, but I’m not convinced yet. Kelly was looking ok, but she only has that one move that reminds me of Guile’s flash kick…only less effective than a Jean Claude Van Damme movie.

Guile Flash Kick

The Glamazon wins this one, and I loved it. I like her, and I hope she roughs up all the divas and makes them into real wrestlers. I liked the ending of this match, but felt that it was too slow for me.

Charlie Haas defeated Deuce

Once again, Deuce is still employed by the WWE? What the hell? Seriously, someone fire that guy or change his gimmick, because if he’s going to be another jobber wasting valuable television time, then I’m not buying it. As for Charlie Haas, he’s dressed as Great Khali this time around and they introduce him as The Great Charlie! The real translator is out with him, and the fans are eating it up. I thought it was hilarious, but how long can this really last? Charlie wins this match with ease and after the match up we had problems. Well we didn’t, but Charlie sure did, the Real Great Khali came out and he wasn’t looking very happy. He came down and beat the crap out of Haas with one major blow. Sadly, the great Charlie didn’t get back up.

Shawn Michaels and Triple H defeated Lance Cade & Chris Jericho via dq

We were teased all night about who was going to be the mystery partner for Shawn Michaels and no one knew what was going on. However, the old Degeneration X music hit and out came Triple H! Degeneration X returned to RAW at least for one night, and the old team was back together and on the same page! Triple H and Shawn Michaels as Degeneration X really had the crowd jumping and the pop was intense for this one. I even marked out a little bit at my chair, even though I was writing this review at 5 in the morning. These guys really do bring back memories. This match was a standard squash in my opinion. Triple H and Shawn Michaels dominated the match at the end and after it was all said and done, Shawn Michaels did a big splash to Lance Cade off the top of a Ladder and Chris Jericho looked like a scared little kid at the top of the ramp. This was a DQ finish, by the way, as the heels teamed up against Shawn Michaels.

WWE Raw 9/29/08 Results

Batista defeated Santino
The Miz defeated JTG
Jamie Noble & Mickie James defeated Katie Lea & Paul Burchill
Team Priceless, Manu, and Kane defeated CM Punk, Rey Mysterio, Kofi Kingston, and Evan Bourne
Jillian & The Glamazon defeated Candice Michelle & Kelly Kelly
Charlie Haas defeated Deuce
Shawn Michaels and Triple H defeated Lance Cade & Chris Jericho via dq

Overall WWE Raw wasn’t all that great this week. I loved the 8 man tag team match, but the rest of the show was just non eventful. I feel that the wwe is just trying to make me buy the ppv this weekend, and I’m not going to since I already have tickets to Raw on Monday. I can’t afford both, as I’m super broke. This show was ok though.

Raw Results 9/15/08 and Review

Live from Memphis, Tn we get a great kick off to Raw with the world heavyweight title. This has to be a first in a long time, as we haven’t seen a legitimate cage match on Raw in a long time, nor have we opened Raw with a legitimate world title match.

Chris Jericho defeated C.M Punk in a Steel Cage Match

The match was actually evenly matched. We had offense from both sides of the coin, with Punk getting in a lot of punishment early on, and losing control midway through. Chris Jericho turned things around after the commercial break, and slapped on the Walls of Jericho, and Punk was nearly outside of the ring. At one point he even had one foot outside of the steel cage and was on his way to victory, but Jericho managed to drag him back in. A big highlight was Punk putting up a knee during Jericho’s Lionsault attempt, clearly hurting the champion. The ending came when C.M. Punk hit Jericho with a head-butt and knocked Jericho right out of the door! Jericho literally fell out of the ring, missed the stairs and landed straight on his back!

This match was great, but I didn’t like how there wasn’t any blood, and how the match wasn’t very long at all. They made it seem somewhat easy to get into this match, and I believe that both men have longer cage matches in them, but of course, this is Raw so I’m sure they had to adjust for time constraints. Otherwise, this match was not half bad, watching Jericho and Punk shines a light on what could be to come from the WWE Raw side of things.

Candice Michelle defeated Jillian

This match was stupid. I still think that Candice is trying to hard to look and act like Victoria. I was impressed at one point when Jillian delivered a clean and good looking Samoan drop, but other than that, this match was stupid. I can do without all the moaning and groaning, from the hair pulling. The camera kept cutting to Beth Phoenix, who was ringside, and I must admit she looked nice without too much make up on. Back to the match, this was forgettable and the crowd didn’t seem to be too into it at all. In fact, this match was so bad that Jillian had some rest holds and was singing and yelling midway through the match, much to everyone’s dismay. I know she’s trying to get heat, but this is just ridiculous and isn’t doing anything good for me or the fans. This match was so bad, that even the commentary was lacking as Cole and The King had a lot of dead air and just didn’t have anything to say about this horrible match up. I blinked and missed the ending, but Candice Michelle won this match up, and was nearly breaking her bra or top, whatever you want to call it.

JBL defeated Tommy Dreamer

I don’t know how many times I have to say this, Tommy Dreamer needs to quit professional wrestling. I’m not sure what he is trying to accomplish anymore, he’s not chasing the ECW title, he’s just jobbing out all the time. I know that it sure beats working 9 to 5, but does it really? I’m not sure what Tommy Dreamer is getting paid, but he’s really taking a beating day in and day out and he’s never really winning anything, he’s just taking chair shots, and losing to established wrestlers. This was a great example of that. This match was not even five minutes in length and Dreamer got no offense in, he was manhandled by JBL then the clothesline from Hell and the quick win for JBL. This match sucked, and I hate when the ECW originals get squashed.

Post match, JBL sat in the ring demanding that Mike Adamle come out and make him the number 1 contender to the Heavyweight championship. It only prompted Randy Orton to come out and talk smack. This brought out Santino and Beth Phoenix, and our 10 o’clock main event is a promo, and I’m not sure what’s going on. This segment dragged on and eventually Batista showed up to join the party. Just like you might have guessed, it ended in a melee, and Batista dropped Santino like a bad habit. Afterwards, Beth Phoenix got in his face and slapped Batista! After that, BATISTA delievered a SPINE BUSTER TO BETH PHOENIX dropping her on TOP OF SANTINO!!!!!

BEST PROMO SEGMENT ENDING EVER!

Priceless & Manu defeated King Jerry Lawler, Kofi Kingston, and Charlie Haas

Charlie Haas came out dressed as Jim Ross and make some hilarious comments as Ross. He also plugged Jim Ross’s bbq sauce, available at jrsbarbq.com. I figure that since Raw was in Memphis, Jerry Lawler had to wrestle, and he took a lot of punishment from Priceless. Haas ran down to do commentary midway through the matchup, prompting a huge pop! Haas got into the match and the Crowd was finally into everything and anything he was doing. He cleared the ring, and nearly won the match for his team! I kid you not, the crowd was going wild for his antics! Ted Dibiase got the win with a million dollar dream Russian leg sweep combination, and I don’t have a name for that move, but it looked good.

Jamie Noble defeated Paul Burchill

I’m surprised that the WWE is pushing Jamie Noble, even if he’s not always winning, towards the close of the show. This match happened after a lot of main eventers had already gone out there and wrestled. Jamie Noble was fast, and I do mean fast. This match was interesting, if only to see Jamie Noble’s ferocity, he really drove his point home. He went out and attacked Paul until Jamie Noble got an arm lock on him and made Paul submit. I’m more disappointed that wwe is not allowing Paul Burchill to get a better shot, he’s getting trashed by Jamie Noble, of all people! This was a squash match. Post match William Regal came out as boyfriend to Noble’s former love interest. Let’s just forget that Paul Burchill even works for wwe, the wwe has.

Rey Mysterio Jr. defeated Kane via DQ

This match was all Kane. Until the end, or should I say after the match, when Evan Bourne came out to save Rey and probably forecasting a handicap match or a future tag team for a title run.

The biggest thing to come out of Raw wasn't the wrestling, it was the announcement that HBK will face Chris Jericho for the world title in a LADDER match at No Mercy!

HBK Ladder

Rey Mysterio defeated Kane via DQ
Jamie Noble defeated Paul Burchill

Raw Results and Review 8/26/2008 Idiot Edition

I spent a long time reviewing this weeks raw and for whatever reasons I didn't email it to myself to post. So instead of the usual review, I'm writing this thing upside down and backwards in hopes of giving you guys a review and results in one post. I'll make sure to get the ECW review back in line rather than this have review of sorts.

World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk defeated JBL in a non-title match

CM Punk is awesome in this match. It appeared that the WWE heard critiques about the formulaic structure that was plaguing Punks matches lately. He took charge early and really got a lot of offense in this time around, but of course, JBL wasn't going to let Punk off the hook too easily. JBL had this thing sewed up on several occasions, but after not being able to get Punk down enough to win, Punk hit the GTS out of nowhere and the crowd erupted! Punk won again, and the Crowd really went nuts for the win. Overall a good match up.

Kelly Kelly defeated WWE Women's Champion Beth Phoenix

Beth Phoenix got hit hard in the face and had a bloody nose for most of the match up. This was a really standard divas match up, and really wasn't anything worth mentioning too much about. Kelly got a lot of offense in, but overall it just wasn't fluid. Hopefully Gail Kim comes in and offers some more wrestling.

Primo Colon defeated "Charlito"

Charlie Haas came out dressed as Carlito. Is Carlito fired? I'm not sure what was up with this one, but this was not that great. Primo looks good, and is a smaller wrestler. He did some high flying moves, and was really not half bad. However, this match wasn't anything worth mentioning. Charlie Haas is on his way out again, and I wouldn't be surprised if he was fired sooner than later.

World Tag Team Champions Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase defeated Jerry "The King" Lawler & "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan

Horrible train wreck of a match up. The tag champions win this one, even though Jerry Lawler gave it a good try.

Intercontinental Champion Santino Marella defeated Kofi Kingston

Santino escapes this one with an assist from Beth Phoenix. Kingston had this one won, but somehow Santino escapes with the title and a good defense. This match wasn't all that great, but it was cool to see an Intercontinental title match on raw for a change.

Batista defeated Kane by disqualification

This was a boring match. This was a basic big guy match up with random power moves and a dq ending. The show went off the air fast, and I wasn't sure what was going on.

Raw Results 8/26/2008:

World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk defeated JBL in a non-title match
Kelly Kelly defeated WWE Women's Champion Beth Phoenix
Primo Colon defeated "Charlito"
World Tag Team Champions Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase defeated Jerry "The King" Lawler & "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan
Intercontinental Champion Santino Marella defeated Kofi Kingston
Batista defeated Kane by disqualification

Overall an ok Raw. I'm sorry that this review isn't as long as usual. I somehow lost my original review in the process of transferring it from one computer to another. So I had to redo it fast. I know, it sucks, but hey, it happens right? I might post the original if I can find it, and it might be different, but we'll see what happens.

Raw 8/18/2008 Results and Review Y2J Night After

Chris Jericho In Ring Segment:

I haven’t seen someone have so much heat with the crowd for a non-wrestling event, than Chris Jericho on this program. Everyone hates Chris Jericho right now, and his speech didn’t help matters much, because he came out and gave the world’s most scummy speech about how he wasn’t sorry at all and that HBK was at fault for his wife getting hit in the face at Summerslam. Y2J is seriously the most hated man in professional wrestling right now, and it’s finally getting good. We need more heels to do this sort of thing; no not hit girls, but to generate heat from non-wrestling things. It could create an incredible amount of drama for the ppv’s and get buyrates, and ratings for sure. If you recall, this is how Andre the Giant turned heel (interview segment turn on Hogan), and so did guys like Savage and others. It was in an interview segment or a non wrestling event that made them great heels. Of course, the wrestling had something to do with it as well, but their actions outside of the ring created a monster heel scenario that couldn’t be ignored. This Chris Jericho push is definitely a huge thing. It’s about time we had a stronger heel than just petty interview time in ring and random empty threats. Y2J’s promo is spectacular, and for a non wrestling event, he really does a great job selling what I am calling “the punch heard round the world”!

Batista defeated Paul Burchill

Way to go WWE! You squashed your up and coming talent! I had initial thoughts that maybe Burchill would get in some great offense and put on a show since Batista was suppose to be selling his so called “injured” leg, but instead he just beat the crap out of Paul Burchill for no apparent reason! Seriously, what is the WWE thinking here? Paul was getting a mini-feud and even a shot at the Intercontinental Championship, but now? Now he’s getting squashed in matches against Batista, one night after Batista fought Cena in what King Jerry Lawler says was the best match ever! This is just the wrong move, in my opinion, and I don’t understand why the WWE doesn’t believe in their up and coming talent at all. It’s about time the WWE wakes up. This was just a squash match, and this is the norm for WWE these days.

Mike Adamle Introduces Primo Colon:

Mike Adamle introduces Carlito’s brother, Primo Colon, only to run off and try to talk to Cena. Cena then runs into Batista and tells him the better man won, but that it was just last night. Primo Colon? What happened to Carlito? No wonder the WWE fired 10 or so guys, they needed money to pay these new guys coming in…unless Primo is just another squash guy like the Smackdown show last week. Whatever the case is, we have a new talent, which will most likely get squashed sooner than later. I’m tired of seeing new guys, no name guys, get introduced and then get passed up for other talent. I don’t know if you noticed, but this backstage segment illustrates the WWE as a whole. New guys come in, and then get passed by for older, more established talent. Primo Colon could get fired before he even gets started…wouldn’t that be a kicker?

Kelly Kelly & Mickie James defeated Jillian & Katie Burchill

Again with the tag matches from the WWE. It always seems to be that the divas get a tag team match on Raw and usually I’m impressed. However, I feel that I’m on overload from the WWE divas. They aren’t that good at wrestling, and seeing Mickie James in tag matches all the time is getting stale for me. Yes, this match was better than most of the divas matches, but it just doesn’t seem to go anywhere. These matches are entertaining on a certain level, but they never really forward any storyline, or even have any meaning. I don’t mean dramatic storytelling, I mean wrestling wise. Why are these particular women wrestling? Who’s getting the title shot next? Who cares? That’s the thing, no one cares, and it shows. Kelly Kelly was definitely taking some major shots, and I almost feel bad for her. She doesn’t fall correctly, and it shows as well. But then again, that’s why she gets paid the big bucks, and I sit at a computer wishing I was getting tossed around by the women of WWE; the match though, good stuff, standard divas match. Mickie James gets the hot tag, clears the ring for the most part, Kelly helps out afterwards, only to get the eventual win with the big ddt for the win. Mickie James gets the pin, and Mickie and Kelly win the match.

JBL defeated Jamie Noble

Jamie Noble had a moment of offense only to get JBL squashing Noble. JBL is massive compared to Noble. I say this a lot about Noble, and that’s: Why Isn’t Noble fired? Noble as a professional can’t possibly be enjoying his jobber status in the WWE. He could be such a valuable entity to other companies, including TNA and ROH. I know that they don’t pay as much, but they probably won’t squash him this bad every week on national television. His weight is really getting the best of him, and without the WWE getting into a cruiserweight division any time soon, these types of matches are only going to serve to prove that the WWE has no idea what they are doing in regards to what the fans want. However, I digress, because at Summerslam and at Raw the WWE sold out the arenas. So maybe they know what the WWE fans want. Just not what this wwe fan wants, but that doesn’t matter. Noble got assaulted bad in this match, he was on the receiving end of three Clotheslines from Hell and the Ref stopped the match. The announcers didn’t even sound concerned over Noble’s condition. JBL was made to look concerned over losing to CM Punk.

Mike Adamle Announcement:

Mike Adamle announces a Championship Scramble for Unforgiven’s main event. Not sure what that necessarily means, other than it’s a gimmick match and most likely Punk will lose the title and then win it later on in the match up.

John Cena defeated Priceless

What is the reasoning behind this move? I was wondering what the WWE was thinking in this one. Since Batista got let off the hook for tonight, I was under the impression that John Cena too would get a squash match up with some random WWE guy. Instead, John Cena is thrown to the tag team champions! What the heck? This can not have a positive result, can it? Cryme Tyme did run in and steal the WWE Tag Title Belts, infuriating Dibiase and Rhodes.

As far as the match up, this was a standard wrestling match for the most part. John Cena was getting beat down for the majority of the match up. Cena was not getting an easy win, and this is surprising to me somehow, but after thinking about it a bit more, it makes sense. If John Cena is to be the #1 face in the company, he has to get beat down a lot! Remember Hulk Hogan, yeah I’m going back to the Hogan era of sorts; Hogan had a lot of matches where he was getting beat down, whether by monster heels or by the tag team champions. He would recover and win the match with his patented leg drop. Is John Cena now the new Hulk Hogan? I was sure thinking that in this match, as the tag champions were making Cena look like a jobber with their constant punishment! This whole thing turned around, just like the classic Hulkamania VHS tapes that I used to collect, and the five knuckle shuffle was followed by the STFU and Cena comes through again in the clutch and wins the match.

I am always against singles wrestlers beating an established tag team. But I am even more against seeing one person lose to the tag team champions! Had I booked this, I would have the tag team champions win, even by DQ if possible, because I believe that a good tag team can defeat one guy, no matter what. The WWE could say that John Cena was tired from Summerslam and couldn’t fend off two different opponents, but instead, WWE chooses to bury the tag division by having them lose a handicap match!

CM Punk Interview:

CM Punk calls out Chris Jericho, and talks about how he’s going to lay down the law in a Chicago style match up.

D-Lo Brown defeated Santino via DQ

D-Lo brown already gets an Intercontinental championship match? Sure, why not? The WWE is throwing all caution to the wind and just giving out shots at the title left and right. At least we didn’t get a Kofi Kingston rematch clause match one night after losing it. That is usually the norm for the WWE and their title situation. I guess Kofi will have to settle for getting a shot later on down the road. Santino shows he has no wrestling skills, but I like this. I think it’s a great move for him. D-Lo controls the match up, and nearly beats him. Beth Phoenix got involved in the match up and caused a DQ, Santino then gets thrown into the announce table and Kofi Kingston smashes Santino’s head into Lawler’s Mac Book! Someone owes King a new laptop, that’s for sure! Santino retains his belt, but only because Phoenix’s interference. I enjoyed this match, and Santino has a great comedic timing about him. The match really went nowhere, but it was great to see that a comedic title reign can generate so much entertainment. That’s all this is folks, entertainment.

Kane In Ring Segment:

Kane talks bad about Rey Mysterio. He says that he basically killed off Rey Mysterio. This could be because Rey is arguing for more money, or that he needs more time to heel his injuries. Batista comes out for the save, and Batista gets beat down. This is most likely why he didn’t wrestle the tag champions, because he was going to get pwned by Kane! Kane demolishes Batista, and the announcers say it’s because Batista was injured. Kane leaves and we all are thinking one thing; whether or not Rey Mysterio will return to WWE, or go straight to Mexico and make some major cash by going to Lucha Libre?

Chris Jericho defeated CM Punk

If I complain about the John Cena matches, I’m going to have to complain about CM Punk’s matches too. His matches are really formulaic as well. There are never any battles that go both ways, he is usually the face in peril and doesn’t really get over until the closing moments of the match. Sure there are a few flurries here and there, but for the most part Punk doesn’t really get a whole lot of back and forth momentum. Maybe it’s because most of his matches aren’t very long, or maybe it’s just that it works better for him. Jericho and CM Punk did put on a show though, and whatever criticism I had for the match vanished towards the middle of the match when things started to really turn around. Maybe I spoke to soon, but the match was going towards a good point and we even saw some new moves for Punk to add to his arsenal. There were a lot of near falls, that’s for sure, thrilling the home town crowd seemed simple for Punk. Lance Cade caused a diversion, and Jericho pulled out the Code Breaker for the win! Too bad this wasn’t for the world title. Jericho really put on a great match up, and he’s looking great.

WWE Raw 8/17/2008 Results

John Cena defeated Priceless
JBL defeated Jamie Noble
Kelly Kelly & Mickie James defeated Jillian & Katie Burchill
Batista defeated Paul Burchill
D-Lo Brown defeated Santino via DQ
Chris Jericho defeated CM Punk

The Y2J and HBK angle could take a swerve too! What if people cheered the crap out of Y2J? Then HBK could be bitter about the whole thing, and turn into a Bret Hart type character. Y2J could be the face…but then again…this isn’t the Attitude Era.

There were some interesting developments in the story line department. Some things were pushed, while other things were given their natural closures. The Intercontinental championship is getting really interested now. I like that the mid card is getting the attention that it deserves.

CM Punk’s way over with the crowd, and because it was his home town, the arena went insane! Seriously, the place erupted like I haven’t seen on Raw in a long time. CM Punk is quite the fan favorite, considering that he’s not a huge guy and continues to wear the belt with pride. I like Punk’s title reign so far, and hopefully people will stop saying that he’s just a transitional champion. The crowd was red hot for him too, I was impressed, that’s for sure.

The overall show was good, I enjoyed it for the most part. I felt that there were some moments wasted. I thought for sure that there would be more, but it seemed to be just enough show in 2 hours to make it worthwhile.

WWE Raw Review 8/11/2008 Pre-Summerslam Showdown

Richmond Virginia gets Raw live, and away we go! We're one week away from Summerslam

John Cena Opening:

John Cena gets booed out of the building, and Richmond hates John Cena. Cena plays to the crowd and then gives a random speech. He makes fun of Smackdown and the build up between Khali and Triple H, and I wonder if he’s ad libbing. He tries to hype the crowd, but gets mixed reactions. I don’t think John Cena is really all that great, but he makes a lot of sense if you break down the whole speech. He said something that I’ve been thinking for a long time, and that is the sheer facts that you don’t need a lot of mindless hype to get over for a wrestling match at the ppv. What you need is just pure fighting, and if WWE really is after a PG rating, they need to stick to wrestling like they did when I was growing up. Before they started to focus on storylines and backstage segments, they just need to have fights break out and have chaos reign. It’s fine to have these in ring segments, but they need to return to form.

How would I book it?

I would have Cena out there flapping his gums as usual. But have Batista not come out of the backstage area through the ramp, but rather come through the crowd and Batista bomb Cena. Sure, it’s a cheap shot, but they should brawl straight through the back and just make it a street fight of sorts until officials break it up. Then at the ppv they should get a double dq leading to a gimmick match at the subsequent ppv. Where did I get that idea? Simple. Remember 1997? The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels did the very same thing. A dq match up, leading to the first ever Hell in a Cell match up. However, lets go back further and think about King of the Ring 1997 that year, and that had Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold Steve Austin facing each other in a “Face vs. Face” match. They ended up with a double DQ and didn’t really wrestle each other for nearly a year, where Stone Cold went over as the new world champion in 1998 at summerslam. That’s how you get heat.

Now as for this segment, where Batista comes out and is the obvious favorite, I’m a little unhinged. I’m not really sure.

Batista made a fatal comment though: He said “John Cena has never changed.” However, Cena has changed! Remember when he was rapping freestyle before each match up? Yeah, when’s the last time we saw that side of Cena? But it doesn’t matter, Batista tries to heel it up somehow but recants each time, forcing me to believe that this match might prove nothing, and we’re headed for a double dq finish or a count out or something stupid like that. Or just like that memorable Hulk Hogan vs. Sting match from Nitro (way back when) we’re going to see a faction of sorts run in and interrupt things for the two and they will each go their separate ways again. But maybe not…this segment ends with nothing important, and the two just leave, and we get to commercial break. It’s stupid if you ask me.

Beth Phoenix defeated Kelly Kelly

Kelly Kelly is so much smaller than Beth, and the Glamazon really puts up a great battle. Kelly did a few roll ups and reversal, but she was out wrestled completely. This match was basically a no contest, you knew what was going to happen. Kelly really took a beating, and Phoenix at times looked as though she was taking liberties with Kelly. Especially with the finisher that Kelly wasn’t too ready for, as she was sent flying to the mat face first.

Post Match Kofi Kingston and Mickie James came in and saved Kelly from further defeat. Santino got on the mic and started to mouth off about their match up for Summerslam. Santino then challenges Kofi Kingston to a match up tonight on Raw, but then says that he wants to wrestle Mickie James not Kingston! Mickie James accepts and Santino says he is going to put her back in the kitchen where she belongs and we’re getting a mixed match up with Santino and Mickie James!

Santino defeated Mickie James

What a great comedic performance for Santino. Santino and Mickie James put on a hilarious romp through an intergender match up. I liked this one a lot, but only for comedic value. There was not a lot of wrestling, and it was nice to see Santino finally get a match up. This match definitely has a lot of spots that looked hilarious and was entertaining to watch, but overall not something that you’re going to remember for a long time. This was a good initial set up for the match up this weekend, that’s for sure. Santino wins with a roll up.

Mike Adamle and Kane Segment:

Kane and Adamle talk about the sack. Adamle looked great, and he didn’t look nervous or intimidated by Kane at all. He then makes a match for later tonight, with Chris Jericho and if Kane loses, we’re going to get to see what’s inside the bag! Kane says that it’s going to be a big mistake.

Priceless Segment:

These guys don’t have much in the backstage department. These guys suck, actually. They heel it up, however, they just don’t have the charisma of their fathers, I’m sorry. These guys could be great, but they need to work on their backstage and on screen charisma. They don’t have a lot of heat just by their presence, and a great tag team could generate heat just by looking at them. These guys just don’t seem like a real threat to me. Sure, they talk a good game at times, but it seems so rehearsed, and they don’t seem upset. If they are truly focused and want those titles, they need to cast a shadow of anger and seriousness, rather than cool, calm, collected and undisturbed. But that’s just me. I’m not a booker, so what do I know right? Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase Jr. really needs something more. They can’t just get over with these lame promo’s that’s for sure.

Cryme Tyme defeated The Highlanders

Way to bury the tag team division WWE! Not so much Cryme Tyme, but the Highlanders. Remember when The Highlanders were getting pushed hard? Now we are getting these squash matches and they are just another pair of jobbers. Cryme Tyme wins this match up with ease, and it doesn’t even show that they did much. It looks like they too have a “mic check” like finisher. Great, just great, no originality, no tag team maneuvers, this is stupid. This match was fast, no non sense, and really boring to me. The WWE once again buries another tag team, but I guess it’s better than a hot shot tag match up.

CM Punk and JBL Segment:

I knew this was going to happen. As soon as they announced that JBL had a contest that Punk couldn’t win, I thought a drinking contest. I’m well versed in the Straightedge scene, and I knew this was something that JBL would do. This was interesting, and it only cast a really good shadow of greatness for Punk. He looked a lot like a jesus figure, battling the devil in a match of temptations. Punk was steadfast and didn’t drink the Whiskey but instead threw it at JBL’s face and then hit a running knee to JBL in the corner. I thought that Punk was going to try and drop JBL through a table, but instead he just left. This segment was really boring to me, and really predictable. I guess more people needed to know about Straightedge or something? I’m not sure. Punk gets over before the big night this weekend, but will he stay champion? I’m not really sure. I think JBL might be a good transitional champion at this point.

Chris Jericho (w/ Lance Cade) defeated Kane

Kane dominated this match up. Chris Jericho in the short tights, looks really weird to me. Kane was in the midst of winning this match up with ease, and Mike Adamle came down to the ring with a lot of security guards. This allowed Jericho to turn the tables, as it were, but only for a moment. Kane immediately got his sack and clutched it to his chest, but that only allowed Chris Jericho to hit his Code Breaker for the win. I didn’t expect Y2J to win this match up, but somehow he pulled off the victory and had Kane in the ring. The more important part of the match definitely was the after thought and post match situation. Kane looked like a little kid, Adamle got into the ring, which was really stupid if you ask me. Jericho immediately cleared the ring and that was it for him. He probably won’t be at Summerslam. Jericho is falling further down the ladder of Raw, and it’s sad. He went from main event, to HBK to lower midcard hell, if not opening match up hell. That is if HBK doesn’t come back for that ultimate revenge. But we’ll have to wait for that after Summerslam. I hope HBK comes back, because Jericho’s wrestling career seems to be at a stand still until the feud is over.

Post Match Kane Segment:

Adamle makes a speech about Kane, he claims that Kane is asking if the monster is alive or dead. The monster being himself, and Adamle does a great job with the crowd. The crowd keeps saying “What” but Adamle plays his cards well. And he keeps pushing Kane about the bag.

Kane pulls out a Rey Mysterio mask! And he laughs a lot before Adamle is left in the ring. This makes no sense, and if it is a way to write off Rey Mysterio off the show or to push his injury recovery a little longer, this is the biggest screw job in WWE history, besides Bret Hart. You want to know a quick way to make your talent obey? Put them into a match up with bigger, stronger guys, only to get injured.

Rey Mysterio can’t possibly maintain a healthy schedule of being if he’s constantly wrestling bigger guys. In WCW he wasn’t as injured because he was wrestling a lot of cruiserweights, who couldn’t accidentally kill the guy. Kane vs. Rey Mysterio, but it can only end badly for Rey Mysterio in the long run. This is stupid, this storyline just got through some stupid motions, that’s for sure.

William Regal defeated Jamie Noble

How did Jamie Noble not get fired? What the heck does he do? Sure, he’s really good and he showed it in this match up. However, there’s no way the WWE is going to push Noble into a title, or beyond the lower card. He’s not even going to get a mid card push if that. Even if he wins every match from this point forward, he can’t get over. Regal makes quick work of Noble via a mistake. Once again, why is Noble still working? He’s the new Funaki, and that’s really sad for Noble. I guess the WWE must pay very well for him to go out there and get beat to hell each night.

Priceless defeated John Cena & Batista

We get the same match we had last week. Cena opens up early, and clears the ring, showing that he’s the true main eventer, making quick work of Priceless. Cena comes across as the heel to Batista’s face, and eventually gets into trouble, before hitting Batista with the hot tag. The match took a speedy turn, and Batista makes the youngsters look really weak. I don’t agree with this at all, but hey, I’m not the booker. The two main eventers really make Priceless look stupid, and I can’t wait for someday Vince McMahon to let the tag team division rise against. Cena keeps pointing to a heel turnover, and I really hope that the WWE turns Cena Heel, because he can get a TON of heat, and he can still still a ton of merchandise. Remember, kids don’t have a lot of disposable income, parents do. So Cena might gain more of a wrestling merch foothold as a heel, just some food for thought that’s all. Batista slaps John Cena for the tag, and here we go! Cena gets in and starts to yell at Batista, Batista then gets head butted by Cena with help from Dibiase running into his back and then Priceless gets the quick roll up for the victory. The new tag team champions jump back in for more, but Cena & Batista work together to fight them off, and the two go their separate ways. Cena is taunted, but heads towards the ramp to a chorus of boos and cheers; Cena comes back to the ring, but there comes security, and they separate the two. Lame.

Raw 8/11/2008 Quick Results:

Beth Phoenix def. Kelly Kelly.
Santino Marella def. WWE Women's Champion Mickie James.
Cryme Tyme def. The Highlanders.
Chris Jericho def. Kane.
William Regal def. Jamie Noble.
Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase def. John Cena & Batista to become the World Tag Team Champions.

There wasn’t a whole lot of wrestling on this show. The little wrestling that was on the show, was really fast and full of short spots. The comedic value of the second match was great, but overall this edition of Raw was horrible for the most part. I am not sure what the WWE is thinking, but the last Raw before the big event this weekend, the WWE could do a lot more to give the fans in attendance some better wrestling. I don’t know, it just seems stupid to me, to have a wrestling show with no wrestling! Sure, there is a little bit of wrestling, but overall nothing worth mentioning. Nothing memorable.

Watching crap like this really makes me miss WCW Nitro. There was a lot of filler, but they had some great matches that were only seen on Nitro and not on the ppv. We’re talking about great title defenses for the tag division, tv title, or even the crusierweight title. The U.S title had some classics on Nitro too, which was great, and it was a great number 2. TNA as number 2 sucks, and Raw this week sucks.

The only thing really worth mentioning about Raw is that Cena and Batista fought each other like Bam Bam Bigelow’s impromptu run ins with Bill Goldberg. Whatever the case is, this show wasn’t all that great, but it was better than nothing. Let’s hope ECW and the rest have a better capacity for wrestling and less for mindless segments.
