ECW on Scifi 6/16/09 Review

The show opened up with a match, for the first time in a while.

David Hart Smith defeated Christian

I wasn’t impressed with DH Smith when he first came out, and I still think he’s a little slow. Howeer, he had a few good shots against Christian. The slam onto the ring apron clipped Christian’s shoulder which was one of the better new offensive moves I’ve seen in a while from wwe. The delayed vertical suplex from Smith was also an instant classic. Christian made a nice comeback and had sweet Missile Dropkick from the top rope, and was definitely looking like he was going o put DH Smith away with ease. I still think that Smith is slow and looks like he’s wrestling in a slower speed. The commentators have a lot of dead air between them, which doesn’t help matters either. The crowd was on and off during this match too…but man, Smith is so slow and the commentators are terrible on ECW. An interesting not, DH Smith hit the running powerslam and wasn’t able to put away Christian, as Christian kicked out, showing that the move isn’t so good eh? A back suplex put away Christian and DH Smith gets a win. This match was so slow, it just was awful. Christian did a good job trying to carry it, but man, this was a half speed match if I’ve ever saw one.

Mark Henry defeated Evan Bourne

Evan Bourne threw up a lot of offense, and some great moments, but overall, it wasn’t enough to stop Mark Henry and the world’s strongest slam. Evan Bourne just wasn’t enough to stop the big man, at least not tonight. I hope Evan Bourne is ready for a lot of surgeries, cause if he keeps wrestling these big man matches he’s going down the same road that Rey Mysterio went down.

Jack Swagger defeated Tommy Dreamer

Jack Swagger was dominant for the most part of this match up, putting the boots to Dreamer and forcing him to really think twice about his decision of staying in the title picture on ECW. I’m not fully convinced that Dreamer as champion is a good idea, as this match proved that Dreamer was getting too old for this. It became apparent when he few off the top rope, missed, and lost the match to Swagger via an Oklahoma Roll! Lame.

ECW this week sucked. It was a slow moving show and not really worth a whole lot. I guess Finlay coming through and hitting Dreamer was ok, but other than that, this show was a remnant of ECW’s old time feel…meaning it wasn’t the old ECW at all, and it’s been that way for a while.
