TNA Impact 6/11/09 Review
The show opens up with Foley, talking on the mic, boring me and the rest of the bloggers that review wrestling to death. Foley is good on the mic, but he doesn’t need to be champ and he doesn’t need to be on the mic so much when there’s so many opportunities that can be created. Double J came out to the ring, and then after some words were exchanged got beat up by Foley’s security guards.
Alex Shelley Jay “Black Machismo” Lethal defeated Team 3-D
Team 3-D has lost more than a step as they have aged here. They seem to be getting too old to fight off the average onslaught of guys that they are in the ring with. Lethal used to mimic Macho Man’s style way more, now he’s just slow, and really not as good. Shelley and Lethal worked together for a good amount of time, but this match just seemed very forced from Team 3-D almost as if they were just going through slow motions to get through this match up. Giving it all they had wasn’t enough as Team 3-D still managed to fight off all 4 people in the various teams, and they even knocked off the British Invasion for a few moments. Doug Williams hit Bubba Ray Dudley with a steel case and made Team 3-D lose the match. Lame match, slow and just forced.
It was around 9:44 and this match started….there’s not much wrestling on TNA these days in the first hour.
Samoa Joe defeated Scott Steiner in a first blood match
This match was supposed to be a first blood match, and it started with simply Samoa Joe and Scott Steiner. There were a lot of head shots in this match as this was in fact a First Blood Match. Word on the street said that Samoa Joe is injured too. Steiner was busted wide open after Samoa Joe put a trash can on top of him then went to town with a lead pipe! That was kind of cool…a little extreme.
Samoa Joe defeated Booker T in a first blood match
This match was a complete piece of junk. Seriously, who writes these things? This match was terrible. First off Joe was way tired and second Booker T didn’t get busted open significantly. It so happened that a lead pipe to the stomach caused Booker T to start bleeding and therefore he lost the match. He was “coughing” up blood! What the heck? This was one of the worst insults to my intelligence as a wrestling fan in a long time, this is a travesty; and I guess Samoa Joe continues his victories, although I still hear he’s injured.
Shane Douglas defeated Aj Styles
Shane Douglas hasn’t been in the sun in a long time and it showed. He also was fatter than usual. Douglas looked like someone’s fat, out of shape stepfather. However, he hit really hard against Styles, and although Styles was carrying he momentum in the match, Shane Douglas managed to fight his way through a bunch of different pieces to make a better match than all of his xpw exploits. Out of the blue Aj Styles hit an arm bar and submitted Shane Douglas. This match sucked, Douglas is cool when he’s not fat.
Post match Christopher Daniels ran down to help Aj Styles, only to get beat down by Shane Douglas. This prompted Samoa Joe down to the ring for the save…and Shane Douglas runs away. This segment sucked…just so you know.
Tara defeated Madison Rayne
Tara is just Victoria, and she is already sporting knee brace…awesome. Seeing Tara in TNA is really impressive, she works really well in ring and proves yet again that she wasn’t really a diva, she was a wrestler trapped in Vince McMahon’s pony show. Speaking of wrestling, Madison Rayne can also wrestle. The two of these women put on a show that didn’t get me aroused, it got me interested in women’s wrestling yet again! Tara won this match after a sweet standing moonsault and the Widow’s Peak! Great match, best thing on TNA this week, hands down.
Kurt Angle defeated Sting in a King of the Mountain Qualifier
I give it to TNA they did put on a main event caliber main event. The two icons in TNA right now put on a decent match up considering that they’ve already given this match on ppv many times over. The two kept going at it in a lot of rest holds and random classic wrestling reversals, but still managed to get in a few great power moves. The ending was great, with some sweet reversals, and some great technical know how, these two put on quite the psychologically driven twist at the end. However, it looked like it Sting who got the best of Angle, after a nice powerbomb. Matt Morgan came down to ringside to distract Sting for a moment and allow Kurt Angle to get the upper hand, and boom..the Angle Slam and it was all over.
I thought the best match of the night was the 3-D match I thought they did an awesome job. I also like what TNA is doing with Somoa joe something tells me that he is going to win the title at slamaverssairy. I can't wait to be there it will be the first PPV I have ever actually attended. I love TNA
