ECW 9/30/08 Results and Review New Time Slot

New time slot for ECW and right off the bat we get Mark Henry and Matt Hardy out to the ring. Mark Henry is talking yet he has Atlas out there, which is dumb. This whole segment is dumb, I’m tired and it’s too early. The Miz and Morrison came out, but I didn’t care. We only have an hour show, so lets save these longwinded promos and interviews for the other shows.

Jack Swagger defeated Lenny Lane

What the hell? Lenny Lane in WWE? It’s about dang time! One of my favorite wrestlers from WCW is here again. Sure, Lenny Lane hasn’t been relevant, ever, but come on. It’s nice to see him in WWE for once. I knew he was going to job out but this was cool to me. Jack Swagger sucks, and he just wins this one fast, and who was surprised? I’m not. It sucks that Lenny Lane went from prancing around WCW to nowhere in the indies, to jobbing to this idiot Jack Swagger.

Mike Knox defeated Tommy Dreamer

I don’t know how many times I’ve actually stated in this blog that Tommy Dreamer should quit, but I keep trying to push the envelope in that regards. I’m tired of seeing Tommy Dreamer come out and get pwned! This match was fast, Knox basically knocked out Tommy Dreamer fast, and Swagger came back down to pick up the bones so to speak. Horrible match, and boring to see two squashes in a row.

John Morrison & The Miz and Mark Henry defeated Evan Bourne, Ricky Ortiz, and Evan Bourne

Here we go, a cool and quick six man tag. This match was not half bad, and the bad guys in this match really put a great effort in this one. They basically grounded Evan Bourne for a good portion of this match, specifically Morrison and his arm locks on Bourne. Every time Bourne tried to get out Morrison would go back to work on the rest holds, making sure that Evan Bourne could not get to the skies to mount an epic comeback. This made Monday nights eight man tag look really fast, because this match took its time, and I didn’t mind it. I liked that the Miz and Morrison were grounding Bourne and the rest holds made perfect sense to me. Of course you want to reduce Bourne’s high flying offense. They did a great job doing that, but eventually Bourne got out with a huricanrana, to get a hot tag to Matt Hardy. I thought for sure at this point the match would take off and we would see everyone in there, but Matt put an arm lock onto Morrison and really seemed to be pacing himself. The match then got out of hand close to the end of the hour, and we got to see more of all the competitors involved. Although, if anyone looked weak in this match up it was Ricky Ortiz, who was getting seriously worked over by John Morrison. This match went on a long time, and I credit ECW for putting on a seriously long match in the era of quick squashes and irrelevant tag matches. The match ended with Mark Henry dropping Evan Bourne with the world’s strongest slam for the win!

The main event on ECW was good and lengthy. It was ppv length to say the least. However, the rest of the show was just horrible. I hate squashes these days, and this one was bad. Oh well, this could be better, but it was nice to see such a long main event, making it seem worthwhile to watch ECW again.

OH and before you start whining about my comments on Lenny Lane, here's an old WCW clip of Three Count vs. Norman Smiley and Lenny Lane...see...he used to be in WCW.
