ECW on Scifi 5/20/09 Review
The night opened up with Jack Swagger in ring pouting about how he got screwed over at Judgment Day. Then after a few minutes out comes the general manager and eventually orders him to the backstage area and after some protest, he complies, like a little girl.
Christian defeated Paul Burchill
There was no chance that Paul Burchill was going to win this match up. I didn’t think he was going to win at all, and while he did have some great spots in this match, you just knew that there wasn’t a chance that he would win over the ECW champion. One thing to note was that Christian was favoring his knee after being tossed off the ramp by Jack Swagger. Burchill was really taking advantage of this, specifically by throwing Christian at the steel ring steps and then continuing to punish Christian’s knee. Christian took some major damage, but he managed to make a comeback and wins against Paul Burchill. How long before Paul is let go? Sooner than Later, probably.
Post match, Tommy Dreamer issued a challenge for the ECW title! Maybe Tommy is going to get one more chance at the belt.
Zack Ryder defeated Adam Green
Zack Ryder I weird. He’s like a parody but worse. He should maybe team up with the likes of DJ Gabriel? I don’t know. There wasn’t much to say about this match, his finishing move was interesting, a falling knee/kneckbreaker, which was interesting, but other than that, this match sucked. I am not a big fan of jobber matches.
DH Smith defeated Finlay
If you wanted a throwback to the old style of wrestling, you got it in this match. Finlay worked on DH Smith’s arm, and really slowed down the match completely. This match was a mat war, with not a whole lot more going on. The match did turn around towards the end as Smith was trying to show that he had some strength, but overall it was Finlay showing that he might be getting a little old, or that he too can rival the Hart Dungeon training somehow. I’m not sure where the match was intended to go, but eventually things spilled out to the floor and Finlay had to contend with interference from Natalya and Tyson Kidd, forcing him to take his eyes off the prize and let DH Smith get the win with a lot of help from a foreign object. This match was long and drawn out…not a new wave wrestling match at all.
I dunno about Burchill being let go, they're actually doing something with him it seems. I wasn't digging him on Raw, but since moving to ECW, he's been doing pretty well. That little segment with Tiffany and Katie Lea last week makes me think there's something in the works for him. With the emphasis being on creating new stars, it may be Paul's last chance, but I think he could actually get something going this time around.
ReplyDeleteWell, Paul might have a few matches left, but he's losing each feud he's in. He also has that bum leg.
ReplyDeleteHe should get back to the pirate gimmick, I liked that.
I guess Kozlov didn't get any competition last night then... even a little jobber action to break a sweat.
