TNA Impact 7/2/09 Review
Kurt Angle comes out and starts talking about Mick Foley, and calls him out. I like Kurt Angle’s new look, it makes him look more evil. Foley stepped out and confronted Kurt Angle. Scot Steiner beat up Foley’s security with a Lead Pipe, ending their storyline; hopefully. Foley punched Angle, then got a beat down from the Main Event Mafia. Afterwards Jeff Jarrett ran down to save Foley!
Double J then hit Foley in the head with a guitar, and walked away.
We got into an interview with Kevin Nash…lame. This segment sucks.
Amazing Red defeated Cody Deaner
Amazing Red is one of my favorite guys to return to TNA, he’s got the fastest execution I’ve seen in pro wrestling in a long time. The twisting dive was impressive, picture perfect, nice landing, and wow…impressive. Somehow Cody Deaner got Red in a compromised position and was actually winning for a good part. Deaner went to the top rope and went flying! He went for the Swan dive headbutt, but Amazing red hit a sweet Red Eye (second rope launch DDT). Tna’s Amazing Red deserves a title shot!
Eric Young defeated Rhino
Rhino ran into the ring and started blasting Young with lefts and rights. Eric Young was taking a beating early into the match up. This match was fast and not that good. Young didn’t get too much offense in, but eventually pinned Rhino, which was out of the blue via a head butt and sneaky pin. This was a terrible finish.
Awesome Kong & Tara defeated Velvet Sky & Angelina Love
Tara, at least to me, had a limp on her way down to the ring. The match was not half bad, The beautiful people had full control of this one. With quick tags and legitimate punishment, they really played up the heel tag team, without compromising their skill set. Awesome Kong got involved and hit a picture perfect Implant Buster and it was awesome! She gets the pin, and I was pleased.
Booker T & Scott Steiner defeated Team 3-D
Team 3-D had the edge early on, and I liked it. They seemed to have a second wind and really looked like that old Team 3-D even if it was short lived. However, as the match carried on it was Steiner and Booker that were looking like the well oiled machine not Team 3-D. Booker was fast and fresh, but Devon had a few shots to make things turn around as he was setting up a huge hot tag! Bubba Ray Dudley was working a little light at first, but things got better as he cleaned house including a nice Bubba Bomb on Scott Steiner. Booker T though, got the book end but couldn’t get the three count. Sheik Abdul Bashir and Kiyoshi came to the announce table and started a fight with Beer Money who were doing commentary. Meanehile, Team 3-D hit 3-D on Booker T! Sharmel jumped in and distracted the referee! Scott Steiner got in and was immediately hit with a headbutt to the groin! Out ran Brutus Magnus came down and did the slowest run in wrestling history costing Team 3D the match.
Jethro Holliday vs. Jay “Black Machismo” Lethal
This match never really got started as Abyss beat up Lethal and then ran down to ringside to beat up Jethro Holliday! That’s about it, Abyss beat him up and went away.
Kurt Angle & Samoa Joe defeated Jeff Jarrett & Aj Styles
This match was going back and forth with neither team truly getting over on the other. Styles and Jarrett worked well together, and Joe & Angle were taking some heavy shots here and there. We had a commercial break and upon return Samoa Joe had this match well taken care of. Aj got a double ddt on Angle and Joe, which proved to be somewhat of an equalizer. Styles hit a huge Pele’ on Joe, and hit Double J for the hot tag and he was like a house on fire, hitting Angle with everything he had, but it was a short second wind. Double J reversed the Angle Slam into a ddt, and things looked bad for the Main Event Mafia. Joe got hit by Aj Styles but hit the ref too! Double J hit The Stroke from the middle rope, but the ref was out cold! Angle got the Ankle Lock onto Jarrett, and right in the middle of the ring! Jarrett passed out with the Ankle Lock strapped in, and he went limp from pain. Kurt Angle wins via death? Hahah…you know what I mean.
Just a heads up, I'll be gone tomorrow, so no smackdown review...but i'll be back monday or tuesday with a full Raw review.
