Rare Wrestling Finds: WCW Starrcade 1990 Collision Course VHS

wcw starrcade90

When I sold my wrestling collection, the one tape that garnered the most bids on ebay was WCW Starrcade 1990 in the original packaging. Someone in the UK paid $150 for it, and I originally got it for 99 cents. You can buy this one now online for around $30 in relatively good condition.

Starrcade 1990 was memorable for me because it was the first time on American television that I saw Konnan and Rey Mysterio SR face off against American opponents. I would see tapes later of them, but in this instance, it was a classic to see them wrestle in the United States, away from their Lucha Libre roots.

Also, Ric Flair's gimmick at the time was that he was a masked man, but no one knew. I guess that ruins the surprise for those that haven't seen the event. This was a great event, and it is not available on dvd, so you can order WCW Starrcade 1990 Collision Course VHS tape here.

Ring of Honor The Young Bucks vs Sal Rinauro & Brandon Day

Ring of Honor has a weekly show, and I don't get it. However, while listening to the only wrestling podcast that is good still (dasharpshooters wrestling podcast), I heard about The Young Bucks in Ring of Honor.

Well, The Young Bucks are Mr Instant Replay and Slick Nick from High Risk Wrestling in Southern California and they used to wrestle shows in my home town of Culver City, California. I am glad to have met and known those dudes. Here they are in ROH!

WCW The Nasty Boys vs Public Enemy Legacy

For some reason, WCW hired Ecw mainstays "Public Enemy" to their roster for the sole purpose of having them get beat up all the time. After that wore off, they decided that it was time for them to start pulling the curtain at ppv. They ended up constantly fighting with The Nasty Boys. There was a ton of memorable moments between the two tag teams as they were notorious for working stiff.

I recall one match that I can't seem to find often, involved some great moments from these two teams, and that was at Bash at the Beach 1996! The two teams squared off in a double dog collar match and they couldn't break this table. This table was landed on by both teams from the top rope and it just wouldn't break and you could hear the table buckling and bouncing wrestlers off. This was a great moment in extreme wrestling.

Well, both teams are no longer in wrestling fans heads, but I still loved watching the two teams go at it.

So essentially you're watching The Undertaker wrestling Lex Luger from 1990!

A year or so later The Undertaker jumped to the WWF and never looked back. So enjoy this clip from 1990.

Bret Hart vs Owen Hart Wrestlemania 10 Complete Video

While a lot of people are talking about Jeff Hardy and Matt Hard right now, there once was a couple of brothers that had a great run against each other. They even squashed their beef inside a WWF Title match inside a Steel cage!

Before it got that bad, Bret Hart and Owen Hart had one heck of a match at Wrestlemania X. That night seems to be remembered not for Bret Hart wrestling twice that night, but for Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon stealing the show in an Interconinental Ladder Match! Little known fact...Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels wrestled in a ladder match that was only available through Coliseum Video.

Whatever the case is, here is the original brothers feuding...

ECW Tommy Dreamer vs Brian Lee Scaffold Match

I give Tommy Dreamer a lot of crap on this site. It's true, Tommy Dreamer is not the greatest professional wrestler on the ECW roster anymore. However, rewind a few years, many years not just a few and you begin to see a different side of Tommy Dreamer. For instance, did you know that Tommy Dreamer and Brian Lee fought in a crazy match called a Scaffold Match?

Now the Scaffold Match is nothing new. Jim Cornette blew out both his knees in the 80's during a scaffold Match and in XPW someone nearly died when he fell a few stories onto the ring ropes and straight into the ambulance.

So without further ado, here I present for you a little way to honor Tommy Dreamer and his accomplishments by showing him fighting Brian Lee in a Scaffold Match.

Tommy Dreamer vs. Brian Lee from the ECW Arena (Viking Hall) mid 90's for sure.

Chris Jericho and Mickey Rourke on Larry King

We found out this week that Chris Jericho and Mickey Rourke will lock up at Wrestlemania this year. The media blitz has already began, and maybe this is just a way for Vince McMahon to get the final word in on "The Wrestler". I don't know what's going to happen, but if anyone in the WWE right now can make this match good, it's Chris Jericho. However, I feel that this is wasting him in Wrestlemania, but I guess Jericho is taking one for the team, as the Wrestlemania thing to do is have at least one major gimmick match.

12 Rounds Poster and Movie Trailer

Love him or hate him, John Cena is the poster boy for the WWE. He has not only garnered respect for the world title and created of critics in the process, we have seen him in movies and television shows. He is now gearing up for another press tour soon, that will hopefully spark interest in his new movie 12 Rounds scheduled to come out later this spring. The movie's trailer made it's debut last night during Raw and here is the poster and trailer for the film. I wasn't a big fan of The Marine at all, but it looks like this one might have what it takes to gain that mainstream success that WWE films has been desperately trying to get since the release of their last few films. Speaking of which, I liked The Condemned a lot. This one is rated Pg-13 so we might not get to see all the over to top action that made the 80's and early 90's action films so great.

WCW Sting vs. Big Van Vader Video

Here’s a classic match up that began the feud between Big Van Vader and a young Sting! Sting was really going for the gusto in WCW and wasn’t exactly great just yet. Big Van Vader has basically steam rolled the competition in WCW and was being pushed as the biggest obstacle in WCW at the time.

I’m not sure when this match took place, but it looks like early 90’s WCW footage from a WCW Saturday Night or Clash of the Champions. I’m not sure; it doesn’t look like a ppv match up, but it’s worth checking out classic Sting in Action.

Andre the Giant vs. Jake The Snake Roberts 1988

As a new thing for every Thursday, and off days, I will be posting videos and commentary about the world of wrestling. Today I have a good clip for you, at least for nostalgia's sake. We go back in time to when the WWE was known as the WWF and they had shining stars like Jake The Snake Robers and Andre The Giant. These two men wrestled several times through out the years, and my fondest memory of the two was when they wrestled at Wrestlemania V at Trump Plaza! Of course the main event that year was The Mega Powers exploding, and having Macho Man Randy Savage Wrestle Hulk Hogan for the world heavyweight championship!

Andre The Giant with Bobby Heenan in his corner takes on Jake The Snake Roberts with Damien at the Philadelphia Spectrum from way back in 1988. Enjoy the first of many videos and comments that I'll be posting.

Overanalyzing Wrestling: Christian Edition

Boogeyman

The funniest thing to come out of wrestling this week didn't happen on any show. The funny thing about wrestling behind the scene's is stranger than anything that can be presented on screen. So check this out, Boogeyman and Booker T are hanging out together and they go to a sports bar to watch an NFL game. They get asked to leave because Boogey has a cross necklace on and its against the dress code. Before anything could go down however, Booker and Boogey leave. Sad huh? Can you imagine if the bar owners fought Boogeyman and Booker T? That would be incredibly hilarious to me. Look for Boogeyman to make his return on Halloween...or not.

Did you hear about Evan Bourne? Kid's done for 4 months thanks a legit injury on ECW. That's right, Evan Bourne suffered a legit injury. He tore ligaments in his ankle. This means that Vinnie Mac is once again going to ground the cruiserweights, as if there were many to talk about. This is a sad thing for Bourne, he was getting a good push through the WWE ranks. I wonder how it is that the mexican Lucha Libre stars are able to have a high flying offense and yet they don't have nearly as many injuries as the WWE stars. It's just funny to me.

In recent comments made by Y2J, he said that punching Shawn Michael's wife was tough but that it all worked out. I remember when that went down, it was nuts, Chris Jericho got real heat on that one, that's for sure.

This week in wrestling has been lackluster so far, to say the least. I mean there was a few good moments, but overall I'm not as excited as I once was. I am not sure if I ever will be marking out as much as I did when I was a little kid watching Hogan and Andre battle it out. However, I'm still here, don't worry.

Here's a classic match for you guys from vaults of WCW:

War Games 1989 from The Great American Bash:

The Road Warriors, The Midnight Express and Steve Williams vs. The Fabulous Freebirds and The Samoan Swat Team

Over Analyzing Wrestling: Kevin Nash Edition

Kevin Nash

Kevin Nash recently went on radio and said he was 99.9% sure that he would go back to WWE to finish off his career.

At first I was thinking that this is a complete lie, however, he sat in with his wife in an interview and they went back and forth talking to Dr. Keith Lopinski and wow…if this is true, then I don’t know what WWE is thinking.

Let’s go back a few years and look at the stages of Kevin Nash’s attempts to get back into wrestling….come along…

In 2002 Kevin Nash came back as part of the NWO angle and it sucked. Stone Cold killed the NWO and Kevin Nash stayed on to wrestling a few more matches. He wrestled some horrendous matches with Triple H and eventually even had a Hell in the Cell match up which was one of the worst pieces of crap I’ve ever seen in my life. The highlight of his wwe return was an Elimination Chamber match up in 2003 with Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Goldberg, Chris Jericho, and Randy Orton. However, he was quickly elminated and we never saw him come back.

Go back to WCW and remember his final years there. No, don’t , those were terrible. But remember in 1998 and even a good portion of 1999, and Nash was actually a good singles wrestler. I remember good feuds with Scott Hall and his awesome Match up with Bill Goldberg at Starrcade 1998. Nash would go on to lose the title and then suck up the rest of his years in WCW.

Rewind to his “Diesel” days and his best matches were with Bret Hart and The Undertaker. I loved his match with Hart as it featured Hart fighting the big man in some grueling matches and eventually winning. I also enjoyed his feud with Undertaker that carried Taker into Wrestlemania 12 then forward to Wrestlemania 13 for his winning of the WWF title at the time.

Now back to the present, we have a very horrible looking Scott Hall. His hair is no longer black and he’s just not the same giant. I remember his horrible attempt at a match with Scott Hall as the Kings of Wrestling and even with the help of Macho Man Randy Savage at Turning Point 2004, he couldn’t get me to cheer for him. That ppv was so bad, I remember, I fell asleep watching it. Yep, that’s how bad TNA ppv’s are.

Nash’s statements leave me wondering if WWE has lost their mind. Why would you bring in an old, and tired Kevin Nash? He sucks. Sure he defeated Consequences Creed on Impact, but not by much at all. WWE has some bad wrestlers at the moment, but banking on a Kevin Nash return is NOT something that I would advice. Obviously, I'm no one to say anything about the business, but from a fan's perspective, it's stupid to bring in Nash. In fact, it's stupid for TNA to feature Nash in their main event, even if it is only to interfere with Sting's match up. It's just a bad move for WWE, if they were in fact ready to give Nash a ton of cash.

As a bonus, here's a flashback to when Kevin Nash was still a viable character in wrestling....he ended the long running streak at Starrcade 98 which was awesome at the time.

Here you go, the final part of Bill Goldberg vs. Kevin Nash from Starrcade 98

Curt Hennig was just like his wrestling nickname, "perfect" in every aspect of his wrestling style. He got his start in a wrestling family with his father Larry the Axe Hennig, went through Verne Gagne s training camp, and gained experience in the AWA, reaching the pinnacle as the AWA Heavyweight Champion. But Curt Hennig s biggest spotlight would shine in WWE, when he became Mr. Perfect, a two-time Intercontinental Champion and 2007 inductee in the WWE Hall of Fame.

Juventud Guerrera vs Chris Jericho Nitro

Juventud Guerrera vs Chris Jericho isn't exactly what something people think about in the world of wrestling as far as historical references are concerned. However, This is not something to sneeze at. We see a younger, longer haired Chris Jericho wrestling a very young Juventud Guerrera on Nitro. This is the type of promo and wrestling that I would expect WWE to consider for their Cruiserweight division...oh yeah...there is no cruiserweight division. Enjoy this match up, it's not half bad.
