Tna Impact 4/22/09 Review
I woke up with a stuffy nose and I didn’t want to review TNA. My ears were clogged so I had to turn up the volume a lot more than I wanted, but I managed to get things in order.
The show opened with Mick Foley and Jeff Jarrett in ring. Foley tried to inspire Jeff Jarrett and made a match for him. This segment was weird because Foley is activating the role of general manager and his role as Champion, which presents a conflict of interest in my opinion. However, no one cares, so we’ll move on.
Beer Money defeated Lethal Consequences
A new tag team tournament was announced and Beer Money was the first team out. Lethal Consequences came out and these two teams put on one heck of a tag team showcase. From tandem moves to high spots, this match had it al in a short time. I wish more tag teams were created to stay together like Beer Money has in TNA. They are definitely a major throwback to the 1980’s longevity that was seen in the Tag team era. The match was good, and for once I thought that TNA had hope for a brighter future. As long as they keep pushing their tag teams in this manner, we can see a great thing happen. Beer Money chasing the belts is a nice fit in this wrestling promotion. Beer Money gets the win, by teaming up on Lethal and hitting him with their double finishing move.
Sojourner Bolt defeated Taylor Wilde Ladder Match
Now this I can get behind all day. This match was a ladder match for a title shot. Back suplex off the ladder from Sojourner was great. Sojourner Bolt took out Brass Knuckles! The two women went back and forth in this match up, and Bolt was getting the worse of it. Bolt hit Taylor Wilde in the face with some Brass Knuckles and this match was over. This match was going good, but this match was too short, and the match didn’t develop as well as I thought it would. Overall, good stuff, I liked the use of Brass Knuckles.
Aj Styles defeated Kevin Nash via Disqualifications
Nash actually was in ring wrestling! I haven’t seen this much vigor out of Nash in a long time. Even the weekend ppv match wasn’t all that great. Nash was dominant for the most part of this match, and styles didn’t hit as hard as he usually does, and he was trying to keep things paced in his favor. Nash got hit with Pele and I thought it was over. Nash was really slow late on in the match, as if he legitimately was tired. Aj Styles then got to shine with some highspots, only to miss. Rudy Charles threw the match out and disqualified Kevin Nash when Booker T interfered, and I hated the ending. Lame.
Outlaw Jethro Holliday & Eric Young defeated No Limit
TREVOR MURDOCH shows up! He’s in this tag team tournament! That’s right former WWE star Trevor Murdoch was in this match up! Eric Young teamed up with him for this match up. This match didn’t have a lot of stellar wrestling, Young and Holliday thought managed to get some good shots in. It was a good overall showdown, and it ended with Eric Young winning with a nice crucifix pin.
Jeff Jarrett Scott Steiner
Mick Foley was on color commentary and this was a hilarious match. This match up was just another hardcore match, and it wasn’t half bad. The plunder was all over the place, and I had to mark out huge for the suplex on a trashcan from Steiner to Jarrett. Scott Steiner’s huge back suplex off the top rope was insane! Jarrett’s Electric chair towards the end was cool, but it seemed a bit overkill. Jarrett hits the guitar shot on Steiner, then The Stroke, and Jarrett pins Steiner clean…well…as clean as you can get in a hardcore match.
