WCW Monday Nitro September 4, 1995 Results and Review The First Ever Nitro

The first ever WCW Monday Nitro aired in 1995. September 4, 1995 to be exact, and it would mark the show that would compete against WWF’s Monday Night Raw for years, and at one point beating it. In this new series, I’m going to go back and watch every single Nitro and review them from the beginning to the end. This is on conjunction to the current WWE product, and PPV reviews that I’m doing at random moments, because I’m a glutton.

WCW Monday Nitro premiered from The Mall of America in Minnesota. This was a one hour show that shoved a lot of wrestling, or at least it felt like a lot of wrestling into an hour, and with a few surprises, wasn’t half bad. Here is how it went down.

WCW Monday Nitro September 4, 1995 Results

Flyin Brian defeated Jushin Thunder Liger
Sting defeated Ric Flair via DQ (United States Title Match)
Hulk Hogan defeated Big Bubba Rogers (WCW World Heavyweight Title Match)

WCW Monday Nitro September 4, 1995 Review

Flyin Brian defeated Jushin Thunder Liger

The opening match was really cool. WCW had put this match on PPV and the two had wrestled in Japan a few times by this point, but it was nice to see them put on a quick match. The internet said it was only 6 minutes long, but I felt like it was longer. Brian Pillman is great here, and Liger is always fun to watch. The two went back and forth before Pillman picked up the big win. Great opener, showcasing the great cruiserweight division, before it was called such.

Sting defeated Ric Flair via DQ (United States Title Match)

Sting and Ric Flair wrestled a really good match, but was interrupted twice. The first interruption was from Lex Luger, as he would appear 1 day after he appeared on WWF television! The announce team acted like they didn’t know what was going on, and Luger said he wanted a title shot. After he left, Arn Anderson showed up and eventually got involved, beating up Ric Flair and causing the DQ. The two would meet at Fall Brawl 1995, where Pillman would cost Flair the match.

Scott Norton came out and demanded a title shot. Mongo got in his face, and eventually Macho Man came out and challenged him for next week.

Hulk Hogan defeated Big Bubba Rogers (WCW World Heavyweight Title Match)

Hulk Hogan and Big Bubba Rogers put on an ok match, with Hogan getting the win with his usual moves of doom. Rogers is so agile for a big man, it’s always fascinating to see him wrestle. Hogan and Rogers are no strangers to one another as you may recall Rogers was The Big Boss Man in WWF where he feuded with Hogan for years.

That was it. In 1 hour, the WCW product showed some of their biggest names, and it was just getting started. I liked it. I will have to go back and watch the first ever Monday Night Raw, but for now, here’s this quick review of the first ever Nitro, which wasn’t half bad. It flew by, and the matches were ok at best. Flair and Sting are always fun to watch, even if the match broke down into chaos. Pillman, what a talent, sad to know he’s gone.

WCW Beach Blast 1993 Results and Review Davey Boy Smith Explodes

WCW Beach Blast 1993 VHS Cover - Classic!
WCW Beach Blast 1993 was one of those shows that you either saw or you didn’t even know existed. Now that the WWE Network has all the major WCW events, you can watch it. I went back to watch this and was absolutely fascinated by the whole thing.

WCW Beach Blast 1993 was live from the Biloxi, Mississippi and there were 8,600 people in the arena for this one. The event was promoted with a mini-movie, one which Wrestling With Wregret and Colt Cabana made fun of (video below). This event was interesting in a lot of ways, mainly for the final matches, although there are some gems up front. We’ll talk about this, and well, it’s not as bad as some people may think.

WCW Beach Blast 1993 Results

Paul Orndorff (c) defeated Ron Simmons by disqualification WCW World Television Championship
2 Cold Scorpio and Marcus Bagwell defeated Tex Slazenger and Shanghai Pierce
Lord Steven Regal (with Sir William Dundee) defeated Erik Watts
Johnny B. Badd defeated Maxx Payne
The Hollywood Blonds (Brian Pillman and Steve Austin) (c) defeated The Four Horsemen (Paul Roma and Arn Anderson) Tag team match for the WCW World Tag Team Championship
Dustin Rhodes fought Rick Rude to a draw 1-1 30 Minute Iron Man Challenge for the vacant WCW United States Heavyweight Championship
Ric Flair defeated Barry Windham (c) Singles match for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship
The Superpowers (Sting and Davey Boy Smith) defeated The Masters of the Power Bomb (Big Van Vader and Sid Vicious; with Harley Race and Col. Robert Parker)

WCW Beach Blast 1993 Results and Review

Paul Orndorff (c) defeated Ron Simmons by disqualification WCW World Television Championship

Ron Simmons was a big deal in WCW, but this match wasn’t that good. Simmons was nursing injuries in the 1990s, and it showed. Orndorff was not in his prime here, and he was gassed towards the end here. This match was ok, ended in disqualification and left me thinking, what would have happened if Orndorff stayed in WWE?

2 Cold Scorpio and Marcus Bagwell defeated Tex Slazenger and Shanghai Pierce

2 Cold Scorpio is so much fun to watch. Buff Bagwell and the other idiots are lost here. Oh and did you know the other guys are the Godwinns from WWE? Yeah. Ok match, 12 minutes, 2 Cold Scorpio is the best here.

Lord Steven Regal (with Sir William Dundee) defeated Erik Watts

Erik Watts! The son of the booker man from the territory days, and about as exciting as mayonnaise on toast. Steven Regal was good here, with some stiff offense, before winning big here in under 10 minutes.

Johnny B. Badd defeated Maxx Payne

Not a fun match here, it was adequate. Payne was ok, but he’s better when tagging with Cactus Jack.

The Hollywood Blonds (Brian Pillman and Steve Austin) (c) defeated The Four Horsemen (Paul Roma and Arn Anderson) Tag team match for the WCW World Tag Team Championship

Brian Pillman and Steve Austin were on drugs, right? They were flying around the ring, bumping for Arn and Paul like they just drank a whole pot of coffee. This was a fast moving match, and I was thoroughly impressed with Pillman and Austin’s tags, as well as Paul and Arn’s quick counters. The Arn Anderson spine buster is absolutely brutal, holy crap. Nearly 30 minutes, a great overall tag title match with the Blonds winning.

Dustin Rhodes fought Rick Rude to a draw 1-1 30 Minute Iron Man Challenge for the vacant WCW United States Heavyweight Championship

Rick Rude and Dustin Rhodes went 30 minutes to a draw, and I swear it’s a full 30 minutes. It was slow at times, then there were moments of excitement, but this was not as good as you’d think. Rude is so much better than WWE’s version here, even though he’s not playing the same character. He’s more hairy here, and he looks to have lost a little weight. Dustin is pre-goldust, and it shows. Good stuff, up front, but the two were gassed towards the 25 minute mark.

Ric Flair defeated Barry Windham (c) Singles match for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship

You would think that this match would’ve been great, but nope. Not sure what happened here, it was a boring title match, and though Flair bumped a lot, Windham just seemed stiff at times. Under 12 minutes, and it just wasn’t exciting to watch, I’m sorry.

The Superpowers (Sting and Davey Boy Smith) defeated The Masters of the Power Bomb (Big Van Vader and Sid Vicious; with Harley Race and Col. Robert Parker)

Here we go, the main event! This match was stellar. I was surprised how well it worked out, especially with two giants on one end. Sting was flying around and bumping like crazy for Vader and Vicious. The first 5 minutes had Vicious looking better than any WWE home grown talent. His choke slam on Sting with 1 hand was absolutely brutal. Davey Boy Smith impressed with some amazing power moves. The delayed suplex on Vader will absolutely drop your jaw. The crowd went nuts, as he had Vader up high for quite some time. I was impressed. Remember this is 1 year after Summerslam 1992, which is weird to think about. Davey Boy Smith and Sting won big.

Overall, WCW Beach Blast 1993 was great fun. The first four matches were boring, but the last set were fun to watch. I was surprised by how much fun it was to watch some of these guys. Steve Austin and Pillman over the Horseman was great, Rude in WCW was always interesting, and the main event was a lot of fun. It’s so weird to see Davey Boy Smith in WCW, especially after Summerslam 1992. Good stuff here. I did notice minor edits on the network, so pick up the vhs tape.

WCW Superbrawl IX Results and Review A Better VHS Experience

VHS Cover of Superbrawl 9 From 1999
WCW wasn’t all doom and gloom. In 1999, they were reaching new heights before they crashed in the later part of the year. Meanwhile the WWF was doing the Austin vs. McMahon stuff, WCW was putting on some good matches, and great overall elements in their events. I recall seeing this live on PPV because I would get all of them, and I loved it at the time. I recently caught up with this on the network, but you know, it’s heavily edited for sound and run time. But that’s ok.

WCW Superbrawl IX took place in Oakland, California and there were 15,880 people in attendance. The crowd’s back then were quite big for WCW, despite what some Reddit idiots will tell you. That being said, let’s dive into this one.

WCW Superbrawl IX Results

Booker T defeated The Disco Inferno
Chris Jericho w/ Ralphus defeated Perry Saturn via countout
Billy Kidman defeated Chavo Guerrero Jr. (WCW Cruiserweight Title Match)
Barry Windham and Curt Hennig defeated Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko (WCW Tag Team Title Match)
The Outsiders defeated Konnan and Rey Mysterio (Hair vs. Mask Match)
Scott Steiner defeated Diamond Dallas Page (WCW Television Title Match)
Scott Hall defeated Roddy Piper (U.S. Title Match)
Goldberg defeated Bam Bam Bigelow
Hollywood Hulk Hogan defeated Ric Flair (WCW World Heavyweight Title Match)

WCW Superbrawl IX Review

Booker T defeated The Disco Inferno

I don’t know why so many people crap on Disco, he actually could wrestle well. In this match he put Booker T through some great offense, but of course, Booker would get the big win with the Harlem Hangover. Watch for Booker to nearly decapitate Disco, though. All of his weight lands on Disco’s head, and it looks like he was completely knocked out. Good overall match.

Chris Jericho w/ Ralphus defeated Perry Saturn via countout

This was a weird transition for Saturn. He was wearing a dress, Jericho was between feuds, and this didn’t go anywhere. Jericho still had Ralphus, and he was close to being on his way out at this point.

Billy Kidman defeated Chavo Guerrero Jr. (WCW Cruiserweight Title Match)

Kidman, after leaving Raven’s flock was great. But this match wasn’t. Chavo’s wrestling skills were never quite on par with Eddie, until he got to the WWE and they were tagged together. Chavo was a lot smaller here too, but Kidman put him through 8 minutes of hell in this match. Kidman wins, enough said.

Barry Windham and Curt Hennig defeated Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko (WCW Tag Team Title Match)

Barry Windham and Curt Hennig were much bigger than the other guys, you know them. Malenko and Benoit did put the boots to the veterans, but it was the veterans going over in this match, with a big win, and through cheating as Windham used a belt to get a choke out and pinfall win. Not a bad series of matches, but definitely not the best that could’ve been done.

The Outsiders defeated Konnan and Rey Mysterio (Hair vs. Mask Match)

The Outsiders were way over with the crowd, but so were Konnan and Mysterio. This match was for Mysterio’s mask or Miss Elizabeth’s hair to get cut off. I never in my wildest dreams thought that Rey Mysterio would’ve lost his mask in this fashion, and from what I’ve heard, he fought against it but failed to convince management to let him keep it. Oh well, this match went on, and it wasn’t half bad. Konnan and Rey are hard workers, and the Outsiders did a tremendous job putting them over, even though they won in the end. Lex Luger was at ringside.

Scott Steiner defeated Diamond Dallas Page (WCW Television Title Match)

DDP put the boots to Steiner, but it was Steiner that ended up with the win. Steiner was so agile in this match, even doing a top rope frankensteiner that was picture perfect. DDP ended up getting locked into the Steiner Recliner, and that was that. Even at 14 minutes, this match had my attention, and the attention of the crowd, which was great. DDP would later go onto win the big title, but not quite yet.

Scott Hall defeated Roddy Piper (U.S. Title Match)

Roddy Piper was the United States Champion going into this match, and Scott Hall looked drunk. The bookers gave Hall the match here, even though he blatantly cheated, and it was obvious that he wasn’t all there. I didn’t really like this match, and Piper just seemed to go through the motions. Even the announce team was wondering what was wrong with Hall. Oh well. Bad match.

Goldberg defeated Bam Bam Bigelow

An underrated gem, and definitely one match to go out of your way to see. Bam Bam Bigelow had been invading WCW and beating up Goldberg from the crowd. WCW officials finally gave Bam Bam a match, and this match was insane. The crowd was way into it, and was going absolutely nuts for Goldberg. Bam Bam did NOT get squashed here. He put the boots to Bigelow, and this match ran over 11 minutes long. Goldberg was selling great, but in the end, Bigelow got 2 spears and a jackhammer for his trouble. Great match, and second only to the DDP Halloween Havoc match if you ask me.

Hollywood Hulk Hogan defeated Ric Flair (WCW World Heavyweight Title Match)

Despite the fact that these guys were aging, the crowd was all over it. I was into it, even after all of these years. Hogan threw Flair around as usual, and Flair got busted wide open. Flair was on a comeback, and it looked like he was going to pull off the title win, but alas, a masked man showed up. That masked man was David Flair! Flair and Torrie Wilson showed up and ruined Flair’s match up. This would be the second event in a row where a taser would come into play. Oh well.

Superbrawl 1999 wasn’t half bad. I liked it for the most part, and there were some good matches. The best match was the Goldberg versus Bigelow matchup, but Steiner’s performance is not to be missed. Aside from that, it’s an average PPV offering, with that classic WCW mix of matches.

I suggest that you pick up the WCW Superbrawl 1999 VHS instead of watching it on the network.

A Better VHS Experience: WCW World War 3 1997 Results and Review

World War 3 - 1997 Results and Review - A Better VHS Experience
The Palace of Auburn Hills was the home for this event in 1997. The big jump that WCW was gaining in popularity was evident here. This venue was coming from Auburn Hills, Michigan, and there were 17,128 people jam packed in the building for this event. This had a total of 9 matches, and it really showcased how powerful the WCW brand started to get.

I used to have the VHS edition of WCW World War 3 1997, and the original recording from the PPV. I can tell you that there are a lot of musical edits, as well as sign edits that the WWE has put on the Network. If you want to see the unedited version of this, you should buy the VHS tape here.

Here are the quick results, and then I’ll go into the review of the wrestling.

WCW World War 3 1997 Results

The Faces of Fear defeated Glacier and Ernest Miller
Perry Saturn defeated Disco Inferno (WCW Television Title Match)
Yuji Nagata defeated Ultimo Dragon
The Steiner Brothers defeated The Blue Bloods (WCW Tag Team Title Match)
Raven defeated Scotty Riggs (Raven’s Rules Match)
Steve McMichael defeated Alex Wright
Eddie Guerrero defeated Rey Mysterio Jr. (WCW Cruiserweight Championship Match)
Curt Hennig defeated Ric Flair (NO DQ WCW U.S. Title Match)
Scott Hall won World War 3 after eliminating The Giant

WCW World War 3 Review

Here we go, the event was one of the highlights of WCW’s 1997 year. Of course, on the opposite side of wrestling, you had the WWF putting on a show known as Survivor Series in which they completely screwed over Bret Hart, but hey, that’s their thing, and this is the WCW version. Let’s talk WCW and this event that went down.

The Faces of Fear defeated Glacier and Ernest Miller

I may be one of the only idiots that liked Glacier. Yes, he was a gimmick that was ripped from Mortal Kombat, but that wasn’t a bad thing. He had some stellar wrestling moves, and was far better than Ernest Miller. The Faces of Fear were always grand in my book, and Meng was still in his prime before getting injured by Bill Goldberg. The Barbarian was slowing down, but overall this wasn’t a bad match. There was a lot of power moves and eventually the Faces of Fear got the big win.

Match Rating: 2 out of 5

Perry Saturn defeated Disco Inferno (WCW Television Title Match)

Perry Saturn was a very unique wrestler and it showed here with Disco Inferno. Disco is always a character, but he did put on some good matches here and there. This was a good one, but it was Perry Saturn’s unique offense that got the win. Saturn won with the rings of Saturn from what I remember, but overall, this match was well timed, and on the button. Saturn and Disco’s timing was great here, and I definitely enjoyed the match.

Match Rating: 3 out of 5

Yuji Nagata defeated Ultimo Dragon

If you’re not a pure wrestling fan, then you aren’t going to like this match. At the time Ultimo Dragon was feuding with his manager Sony Onoo and Nagata was taking Ultimo’s place in the Asian wrestling stable that was in WCW. Yuji Nagata was the heel, and Dragon was playing off of his strong style. Dragon was great here, and Nagata’s strong style, mixed with some clever counters made this match really strong. The fans didn’t get it at first, but over time they started to get into it and the ending was a shocker, with Ultimo falling short thanks to Sonny Onoo’s constant nagging outside.

Match Rating: 3 out of 5

The Steiner Brothers defeated The Blue Bloods (WCW Tag Team Title Match)

This was a hard-hitting match, with The Steiner Brothers working very stiff with Regal and Taylor. I liked it, the fans seemed to get a kick out of the Steiners, and the match was not too long. You’re not going to get a technical masterpiece here, but The Blue Bloods do have enough heat to make you invest a little bit of your attention into this match up. The Steiners were definitely a great team at one point, so don’t just judge them by their solo runs.

Check out WCW World War 3 1997 VHS Tape, by purchasing it here!

Match Rating: 2 out of 5

Raven defeated Scotty Riggs (Raven’s Rules Match)

JJ Dillon came out and announced that Raven had to decide whether or not he was going to sign a WCW contract. He hadn’t yet, in story line. Well this match featured some nice hits, and Riggs was definitely a good foil for Raven. The match was hard hitting as it was No DQ and it eventually saw Riggs get beat down to the point where he was knocked out solid. I loved the drop toe hold to a steel chair, and the fact that Riggs sold the gimmick by wearing an eye patch. At the end of the match, the flock picked up Riggs and went out of the arena through the crowd. I loved Raven’s WCW Run.

Match Rating: 3 out of 5

Steve McMichael defeated Alex Wright

I miss Alex Wright. I liked the stupid dance, and then Kaz, and the other dancing idiots. This wasn’t much of a match. McMichael was underrated if you ask me, and he won this without a ton of action. It was a fun in between.

Match Rating: 2 out of 5

Eddie Guerrero defeated Rey Mysterio Jr. (WCW Cruiserweight Championship Match)

People always cite the original match, but this is one is my personal favorite. Rey Mysterio and Eddy (as I read it) put on another great match. This time around, Eddie was wrestling a hard style on this one. Instead of flying around, Mysterio was grounded, and Guerrero was attacking ribs, legs, and grounding the little guy. There were a few moments that showed Mysterio selling injuries from Nitro and previous matches. If you liked the Halloween Havoc match, then you will like this one for sure. Without Eddie trying to break Mysterio’s mask, this match really took on a whole new world. Again, people like to cite the Halloween Havoc match as their best, but this was definitely a great sequel to a great match. More people should mention this one, especially with Eddie’s psychology focusing on body parts of Mysterio rather than just trying to do the same thing he did at Halloween Havoc. Great moments, that led to a false finish, and eventual win by Eddie Guerrero! Great match, and one of the best in the cruiserweight division ever! Killer frog splash for the win, and the constant Eddie Sucks chants, great stuff here. Mysterio put on a valiant effort, but man, Eddie was on fire here.

Match Rating: 5 out of 5

Curt Hennig defeated Ric Flair (NO DQ WCW U.S. Title Match)

Two guys that are legends in wrestling faced off over the United States title on this show. How could these guys follow up a stellar cruiserweight match? Well, psychology my dear friends, some great overall booking in this match up. Hennig and Flair put on a show of chops, reversals, suplexes, and a great overall ending. In the end, Ric Flair slapped on the Figure Four and looked to be winning the title, but Hennig used the belt, which was in the ring to knock his old ass out, and then get the win. This had the crowd going crazy, and for me, this was a great booking decision, a desperation move that made this rad.

Match Rating: 4 out of 5

Scott Hall won World War 3 after eliminating The Giant

This was a great one. Scott Hall was getting beat down, and a lot of different wrestlers were part of the last 10, 6, and 4 and then it was The Giant and Scott Hall! The crowd erupted, and then Sting came down from the rafters, going absolutely ape, only to find out that it was KEVIN NASH! Oh man, great ending to a good overall show. For those that aren’t familiar with World War 3, it’s a 60 man battle royal.

Match Rating: 3 out of 5

As far as WCW shows are concerned, World War 3 is a great example of a great show amidst a bad show versus the WWF. Yes, the Montreal Screw Job occurred in WWF in the same month, but this show was better all around. I loved it. I didn’t like the screw job, and didn’t think that show had a lot to it, but this one, had a lot of wrestling, great moments, and overall stellar match ups in the final 3 matches.

My recommendation is that you purchase the VHS tape of this, and NOT watch it on the WWE Network. You will find that there are subtle edits, changes in the music, and a lot of cuts that weren’t supposed to be there. But hey, that’s just my two cents.

WCW The Great American Bash 1997 Results and Review: A Better VHS Experience

The Great American Bash 1997 Poster
On June 15, 1997 around 9,613 people packed into The Mark of the Quad Cities in Moline, Illinois for The Great American Bash. This had a total of 9 matches and nearly ran out of time when it was presented. I didn’t get it live, but I had the VHS tape and can tell you that the WWE network experience is very edited. The music is different, the signs are blurred, and even some of the commentary is missing. Also, there are edits in the angles, and much more. It’s for that reason why I recommend you get the vhs tape.

You can purchase WCW The Great American Bash 1997 by clicking here for the VHS tape

WCW The Great American Bash 1997 Results

Ultimate Dragon defeated Pyschosis
Harlem Heat defeated The Steiner Bros. by disqualification
Konnan defeated Hugh Morrus
Glacier defeated Wrath
Akira Hokuto defeated Madusa for the WCW Women’s Championship and retirement
Chris Benoit defeated Meng
Kevin Greene defeated Steve McMichael
The Outsiders defeated Ric Flair and Roddy Piper
Randy Savage defeated Diamond Dallas Page in a Falls Count Anywhere Match

WCW The Great American Bash 1997 Review

From the results, you are not going to be blown away. But there were some insane matches on this card, and that’s what saves this overall. If you’re a collector then you will definitely want to pick up the VHS tape of this, or if you’re a casual WCW fan, then check out the WWE Network, neutered version.

Ultimate Dragon defeated Pyschosis

The first match on the card wasn’t fast paced. It was an ongoing storyline in which Sonny Onoo was recruiting cruiserweight talent to beat up Ultimate Dragon because he didn’t want to align with Onoo any longer. Anyways, this match was really good, well paced, and strong style. Dragon is an incredible talent, and Psychosis should’ve been on par with Rey Mysterio in the WWE, but for whatever reason the WWE never gave him a shot the same way. Anyways, this match was exciting, and had a great overall finish.

Match Rating: 3 out of 5

Harlem Heat defeated The Steiner Bros. by disqualification

The one thing that I took away from this match was that it was strong, and stiff. The Steiner Brothers and Harlem Heat were not pulling punches. They were hitting as hard as they could against one another, and it looked awful on the screen. If you’re a fan of hard hitting action, this match will suffice.

Match Rating: 2 out of 5

Konnan defeated Hugh Morrus

Hugh Morrus always surprised me. I loved how fast he could move in ring. Konnan has always been a favorite of mine, and in this match he really worked well with Hugh. Even though the match was passable, it wasn’t anything to write home about.

Match Rating: 2 out of 5

Glacier defeated Wrath

This was a slow down in the event, but the two guys were feuding at the time. Glacier has a really cool entrance and I loved the idea at the time. Going back to see it, however, it wasn’t that grand. It was ok.

Match Rating: 2 out of 5

Akira Hokuto defeated Madusa for the WCW Women’s Championship and retirement

Madusa’s final match, and it wasn’t half bad. Madusa loses the title and retires here. She seemed to have legitimately hurt her knee here. Other than that, it was ok, nothing crazy, in a wasted division on WCW.

Match Rating: 2 out of 5

Chris Benoit defeated Meng

Chris Benoit had been going through the Dungeon of Doom 1 by 1. This was another hurdle he had to cross this year. Every PPV Benoit was getting beat up by Kevin Sullivan and the Dungeon of Doom. This was a hard hitting match, and Benoit came through with great toughness, and if you follow wrestling, then you already know that this led to the retirement of Kevin Sullivan at Bash At The Beach 97, which was a great match between the two.

Match Rating: 3 out of 5

Kevin Greene defeated Steve McMichael

Even though this sounds terrible, it wasn’t half bad. It was a fun match, even though it seems like an odd pick today.

Match Rating: 2 out of 5

The Outsiders defeated Ric Flair and Roddy Piper

Roddy Piper had hip surgery and he had a HUGE scar on his leg, and the outsiders were attacking at will. Flair and Piper did well here, and it was interesting to see them fight The Outsiders to get the titles, but alas, it wasn’t meant to be. The big men were not ready to vacate just yet, and they won with the crowd going absolutely nuts. Standard match here, nothing too crazy, but always fun to see Flair and Piper put on performances.

Match Rating: 3 out of 5

Randy Savage defeated Diamond Dallas Page in a Falls Count Anywhere Match

Now, this was the main reason why I wanted to rewatch this event. Savage and DDP had been feuding with the two fighting across Nitro. The two would meet this time around for the second time, the previous encounter being at Spring Stamped 1997. In that match, DDP was able to get the win after an insane finish. This time around, Macho won with help from Scott Hall. DDP and Savage worked very stiff here, like a glove, and the refs got beat down throughout. DDP had a legit looking rib injury and Savage landing on his ribs nearly killed the guy, as you may have heard from shoot interviews. You can see it right after the 3 count as DDP tells Macho to get off of his ribs. This 15 minute match was everything that a good feud should be, and the two just made each other so much better. Great match that would lead to a third and final match at Halloween Havoc 1997.

Match Rating: 4 out of 5

The main reason to watch WCW The Great American Bash 1997 is for that main event. That main event holds up very well, with the two putting on a showcase of strong wrestling, and the crowd going absolutely nuts for it. Great match, albeit a bit short.

I recommend getting WCW The Great American Bash 1997 by clicking here for the VHS tape, and NOT watching it on the WWE Network.

This is heavily edited without the original music, and a lot of other liberties that the WWE has gone through to make this a bit different. If you haven’t seen the original, you won’t notice it, but I have seen the original and had the VHS tape so I can tell you it’s way different.

WWE Monday Night Raw 5/24/2016 Seth Rollins Curtain Jerking Showcase

Aj Styles Is Now Official Buried, Oh and Jericho Buried Crews Too

Well here we go, Seth Rollins opens things up, and this is my review of the HULU edition of Monday Night Raw 5/24/2106, so lets get to it!

WWE Monday Night Raw 5/24/2016 Results (HULU EDITION)

Seth Rollins came out and talked about how the fans suck, and all that jazz. He is not a good guy. Then Roman Reigns showed up and he got booed out the building as usual. But that prompted Shane McMahon to show up and announce the main event for Money In The Bank, and it will be Roman Reigns versus Seth Rollins, in which we will see Seth Rollins get buried by Super Reigns. Oh well.

Tonight there will be Money In The Bank qualifying matches.

Sami Zayn defeated Sheamus

Sheamus put on a lot of great moments here, as the bigger man. He took Zayn to the limit, but Sami Zayn’s resilience proved to be great as he knocked the big man out with the HELLUVA kick, and that was that. I liked this win, but I wonder why he’s not booked to be stronger considering he’s in the new TNMT movie. Wouldn’t you want to showcase him as a star, not a jobber? Just saying. Zayn wins and will go to the Money in The Bank event in Vegas.

Apollo Crews gets a beat down from Sheamus behind the scenes, which was great.

Cesaro defeated The Miz

Cesaro will be going to the ladder match in Vegas, as he took on The Miz and put on a show. Miz didn’t need this win, he has a title, so while he was able to control the Swiss Superman for a while, it was for not, as Cesaro put him out and got the win. Good stuff here, great, fast paced, and fun.

Chris Jericho defeated Apollo Crews

Apollo Crews did the smart thing here, he targeted the injuries of Jericho from last night’s Extreme Rules event. Punching the bandaged areas and it was definitely smart psychology. This match surprised me, as Chris Jericho BURIED Apollo Crews. Crews was undefeated for a long time, and now, he gets buried by Jericho, good job Jericho, way to put over the young talent. Jericho advances to the big match in Vegas and Crews will no doubt battle Sheamus in his next feud.

Charlotte hit the hardest heel promo I’ve heard in a long time, on Ric Flair. Holy crap, go and watch this. She got Flair to cry, and said he was dead to her. Wow. “You can just watch me on TV like I did the last 30 years to you”. Wow. Big time heel heat here.

Dean Ambrose defeated Dolph Ziggler

My opinion? Ziggler should take his ball and go home. He’s constantly losing, and he’s being treated like Ryback and Cody Rhodes. Dean Ambrose went through hell last night, but he is out there like he hasn’t at all wrestled, fresh as a daisy. Whatever happened to selling injuries from the night before? Whatever the case is, this was a fun match to watch and you know you always get quality from Dolph. Ambrose one with Dirty Deeds, and that was the end.

Aj Styles came out and cut a fine promo, but as he was talking, out came The Club. The Club and Aj broke up, done and done. Oh well. Nothing happened aside from that.

Kevin Owens defeated Aj Styles aka BURIES STYLES

Aj Styles is now officially buried. He couldn’t beat Reigns, and couldn’t beat Owens, and therefore in WWE’s eyes, he’s just like Ryback, and Rhodes and Crews, BURIED! Kevin Owens and Styles put on a good matchup, no doubt, but the match ended with a clean win for KO and Styles, well he’s an afterthought now. Oh well.

Overall Rating: 8 out of 10

Lots of great wrestling action, but burying the new guys? Oh well. HULU edition of Raw was good, can't imagine 3 hours of this. We'll see what happens next.

WWE Payback 2016 Results and Review The New Era’s First Event

All Images are from WWE.COM (SOURCE)
The All State Arena in Chicago was the home for WWE Payback 2016 and while I am only a few hours away from the arena, I decided to catch it on the WWE Network. I wasn’t expecting a lot, but wow, things got moving fast.

Before we go through my thoughts, let me tell you about my predictions that I got wrong and right.

Here are my predictions as posted yesterday or the day before.

U.S. Championship Match, I picked Ryback.

I predicted the McMahon’s would set up a match for control at the next ppv.

I picked Natalya winning via DQ (RIGHT KIND OF)

I picked NO winner.

I picked The Miz (RIGHT)

I picked Jericho.

I picked Corbin.

I picked The Vaudevillians (nope)

I picked Roman Reigns (RIGHT)

I also predicted Bullet Club showing up, the Wyatts and Finn Balor.

Now, with that out of the way, let’s consider WWE Payback 2016 Results and Review from last night!

Dolph Ziggler defeated Baron Corbin

The opening match wasn’t that grand, and didn’t end like I thought it would end. Baron Corbin lost this one, but he did have a lot of control over the match. He looked strong, with a lot of power moves. However, the finale came with Ziggler doing a quick roll up and that’s it. I didn’t think this was great. However, I did like Corbin’s entrance.

Kalisto defeated Ryback (United States Championship)

Kalisto put on a nice showing, but some of his offense just isn’t believable to me. Ryback put on a serious show here. He put through some big power moves and threw Kalisto around a lot. However, it was Kalisto that took the win here, and it was a better match than WrestleMania.

Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady vs. The Vaudevillians NO CONTEST

This match barely got underway before something big happened. Enzo Amore was thrown into the ropes, he caught the second rope and dropped on his head, knocking himself completely out. He was out cold, and that stopped the match and caused the stretcher to come out. This was not a work, this was legit. Amore was diagnosed with a concussion, and he was released from the hospital. This was a freak accident, but hey, it happens.

Kevin Owens defeated Sami Zayn

An all-out brawl. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn put on a 4 star classic here. Back and forth through a lot of different points, and I was hoping for a Zayn win. Owens would eventually win, but not without putting on a showcase of various power moves, and insane movements. The frog splash he threw out was stellar, Zayn’s athleticism is always grand, and this one took the match of the night. Owens heel ways are beyond a shadow of a doubt the best in the business right now. He got on commentary afterwards and berated the team, except for JBL. Great stuff here.

The Miz defeated Cesaro (Intercontinental Championship)

Not a great match, not a bad one, these two work fine together. The match flowed very well, and Cesaro was poised to get the big win here. The Miz however, got the final pin after Sami Zayn attacked Owens and the two brawled and caused distraction in the ring. Cesaro knocked the two off the apron and Miz picked up the win. The end set up a 4-way match for Extreme Rules, and well, Owens really wants his intercontinental title match. This was not a classic, but a great bit of wrestling towards the end.

Dean Ambrose defeated Chris Jericho

Another great match, and a surprise Ambrose win. Jericho and Ambrose went back and forth, but I was a bit distracted with twitter, because Enzo’s injury from earlier in the night. I liked it. It was ok, and Ambrose got the win, but I don’t know where he goes from here.

Charlotte defeated Natalya (Women’s Championship)

Now this was an odd one. Bret Hart looked old, tired, and definitely didn’t look like he was ready to be back on television at all. The two put on a great overall match, with Charlotte looking absolutely amazing. I was left wondering where Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch were. I thought it was a diva’s revolution, and yet they couldn’t squeeze in more women’s matches into this show? I don’t know. If you go back, look for Charlotte’s incredible moonsault off the top to the outside. I loved it. The end was a screw job and JBL mentioned Little NAICH and that was that. Natalya and Bret Hart put the Flairs into sharpshooters and that was that.

Mr. McMahon said both McMahon children will be running Raw.

So after all that, both McMahon children will run Raw. This was awful. The show would eventually have both of them come out and restart the main event after Styles won twice. Once via count out and once via disqualification. Terrible.

Roman Reigns defeated Aj Styles (World Heavyweight Championship)

Now this was a title match. Aj Styles was going through every move in the book. Reigns was strong overall, and the two put on a stellar showcase of what you should see in the main event at Pay Per view events. I was impressed with Styles completely, and Reigns was not a chump here. The two put on serious moves, suplexes, high risk maneuvers, and so much. They tore the house down in this one. The match ended twice, then restarted, and that’s when The Bullet Club showed up. They beat down Reigns and this was all Aj. Aj Styles was seconds away from winning the WWE Championship, but nope, The Usos were the equalizers, and well, a spear later and it was all said and done. Reigns wins, gets booed out of the building, but what a hell of a match. Great, great showcase. Great main event.

WWE Payback 2016 Results

Dolph Ziggler defeated Baron Corbin
Kalisto defeated Ryback (United States Championship)
Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady vs. The Vaudevillians NO CONTEST
Kevin Owens defeated Sami Zayn
The Miz defeated Cesaro (Intercontinental Championship)
Dean Ambrose defeated Chris Jericho
Charlotte defeated Natalya (Women’s Championship)
Mr. McMahon said both McMahon children will be running Raw.
Roman Reigns defeated Aj Styles (World Heavyweight Championship)

My overall rating for WWE Payback 2016 is: 9 out 10 as it was a lot more fun than WrestleMania.

WCW Bash At The Beach 1999 Results and Review A Better VHS Experience

You Can Buy The Uncensored/Unedited VHS Tape HERE

Well, here we go, another WCW pay per view review. This one was held on July 11, 1999. Do you know where you were? I was in Santa Clarita, California about to head back down to Santa Monica, and well, I missed this one. However, I did have the VHS tape and recently went back and watched it again.

WCW Bash At The Beach 1999 had 13,624 in attendance, which is not a small crowd for the company. It was sad to see that 1 year later, this show wouldn’t even draw 10,000. Anyways, while some will hate WCW, this wasn’t half bad, and here are my thoughts in regards to the classic pay per view.

WCW Bash At The Beach 1999 Results and Review

Ernest Miller defeated Disco Inferno

I never hated Disco, but here he was a shell of his former self. The official time according to the internet was 3 minutes, but I felt like this was a lot longer. Disco isn’t a bad wrestler, he put on some great matches in 1998. I would cite Starrcade 1998 as one of his finer performances. I would also like to mention that he was one tough guy. Just look at Booker T vs. Disco and you’ll see Booker come off the top rope and basically kill Disco by landing full force on his skull. It was a sick mistake, but hey, that’s what happens. This match was fast, had a lot of cheating, and really wasn’t that great, not the best opener.

Rick Steiner defeated Van Hammer (TV Championship)

This was a weird match. Hammer must have done something wrong. Steiner started to no-sell the offense, and instead started to really hit Hammer and this match ended in 3 minutes or so. It was a terrible match, and Hammer wasn’t a bad wrestler.

David Flair defeated Dean Malenko (U.S. Championship)

This was as good as you may think it was. Malenko carried Flair to a watchable match, but thanks to Flair, Anderson, and Double D, David won the match. But not before taking a serious beating. Rick Flair’s nepotism saved him from losing, but he got beat the hell out of for it.

The No Limit Soldiers defeated The West Texas Rednecks

This was an elimination tag team match, and it was laughable to say the least. The best part of this was watching Brad Armstrong in there, mopping up as a No Limit Soldier. Other than that, I can’t recommend this one. I will say this much, The West Texas Rednecks sure put on a showcase of old school wrestling.

Fit Finlay won a Junkyard Invitational (WCW Hardcore Championship)

It was hard to see this one, as the camera kept switching, it was dark, and was just garbage. Fit Finlay would win, but this was a bad idea, executed terribly. This was seriously a bad match, and it legitimately injured a lot of the wrestlers.

The Jersey Triad defeated Perry Saturn and Chris Benoit (WCW Tag Team Championship)

23 minutes, and what a hell of a match this was! The Triad was a team made up of DDP, Kanyon, and Bam Bam Bigelow. Bigelow, holy crap, he could move. In this match, watch for him moving like a cruiserweight, and even coming off the top rope with ease. DDP and Kanyon’s fast tags made sense, and Benoit and Saturn just couldn’t keep up with the numbers. This one stole the show in my opinion, and it is one of the best WCW pay per view matches ever put together.

Buff Bagwell defeated Roddy Piper in a boxing match

This was a throwaway match. Buff won, but eh, I didn’t care. Mills Lane was the referee.

Randy Savage and Sid Vicious defeated Kevin Nash and Sting (WCW World Championship Match)

This was something else. This was a tag match, and it got rowdy fast. Nash was laying waste to Savage and Vicious, Sting wasn’t taking any guff, and this got intense. There was a lot of great moments, but with only 13 minutes to tell a story, it got rushed in the end. Savage won this match and became the WCW World Champion. It sent the fans home confused, as Sting and Nash were way over here, and yet nothing. Oh well. The match was fun, nothing too grand.

Overall Rating: 7 out of 10

WCW Bash At The Beach 1999 didn’t deliver like it did a year before. However, nearly getting 14,000 people to see it was great. If you get this on VHS you can get the unedited music, and commentary. There’s a lot of editing on the WWE end if you see it that way. The best match was definitely the WCW Tag title match, and the rest was take it or leave it for me. Also, pay close attention to how the commentary team treats Bobby Heenan. You could hear the frustration in his replies during this one, it was really bad. Heenan hung in there, but I would’ve walked out, unless he was in on it. I don’t know, sometimes you can’t tell here.

I suggest picking up WCW Bash At The Beach 1999 on VHS here, if you have the money. Get the VHS tape and rip it to dvd, don’t see it on the WWE Networking, or you will not get the crowd reactions and real music for guys like DDP. Overall, not half bad, but not great either.

WCW Halloween Havoc 1989 Results and Review Better Wrestling VHS Series

In an effort to go back and watch more and more wrestling, I have decided to review older VHS tapes. As you may or may not know, at the height of my tape collecting, I had 1400 wrestling videos. I had amassed a huge collection before getting married and selling it all off. Now with the network, you can relive the action. As such, here we go, a review of the 1989 classic Halloween Havoc from the Philadelphia Civic Center in Pennsylvania. Before a crowd of roughly 7,000, this was one hell of a night for wrestling, and here are my thoughts.

Halloween Havoc 1989 (October 28, 1989)

Tom Zenk defeated Mike Rotunda

You may know Mike Rotunda as IRS in the WWF but here he was part of the Varsity Club. As for Zenk, he’s known as Z-Man and he didn’t really get to far in WWE as far as I know. However, he has some serious talent. He reminds of Rick Martel, and well he was part of the Pan Am connection. This was a 13 minute, finesse wrestling match, with some good spots overall, and classic old school wrestling action.

The Samoan Swat Team defeated The Midnight Express and Dr. Death Steve Williams

This wasn’t half bad. It was a match that was fast paced, hard hitting, and featured a lot of crowd interaction. The crowd was going insane for everything that each team did, especially when Jim Cornette got involved.

Tommy Rich defeated The Cuban Assassin

Not a good match. Rich was looking old. Cuban Assassin was on his way out, so this must’ve been the bathroom break match.

The Fabulous Freebirds defeated The Dynamic Dudes (Tag Team Title Match)

Holy crap, Johnny Ace and Shane Douglas coming out with skateboards and neon gear! This was hilarious to see, and a bad idea. However, the match featured The Fabulous Freebirds, and they were the champions in this match. Michael Hayes came out without the tag title, and Garvin had one around his waist. That seemed odd to me. Overall, the match wasn’t half bad, and the Freebirds were way over with the crowd, and of course after around 11 minutes, they won this one.

Doom defeated The Steiner Brothers

Holy crap, The Steiner Brothers were over, and they were so fast in ring. Doom is Butch Reed and Ron Simmons and they had a hard time keeping up with the Steiners. Also, note, Nancy Benoit was the manager of Doom. Whatever the case is, the Steiners lost this one after getting distracted. However, they put the boots to Doom, and Scott Steiner was really impressive in this one. Holy crap, the dude can move, and the Frankensteiner is a thing of beauty.

Lex Luger defeated Brian Pillman (United States Championship)

Lex Luger and Pillman tore the house down in my opinion. This match was just under 17 minutes, and the two put on a classic. Pillman was flying around, but Luger was doing power moves and trying to ground and pound his way through this one. Eventually Pillman missed from the top rope, and Luger capitalized. A great overall match in my view.

The Road Warriors defeated The Skyscrapers

This was another hard hitting tag team match. Holy crap was it hard hitting. The Road Warriors weren’t selling as much, and you could tell. It was very noticeable that Sid Vicious was NOT as tough as Hawk or Animal. The match went by nicely, but it was The Road Warriors that got the win with a DQ finish. A young Teddy Long was here, so that was interesting.

Ric Flair and Sting defeated The Great Muta and Terry Funk in a Thunderdome Cage Match with Bruno Sammartino as special guest referee

And away we go, the main event was an insane wrestling match, that was very strange. The Thunderdome cage match was supposed to have an electrified top. I didn’t really see that come into play much. However, this match turned into a brawl fast, and you will absolutely be surprised how ripped Terry Funk was in 1989. Furthermore, Sting and Flair teaming without Flair turning on him. Muta was undefeated at this point, and the four guys in this match absolutely fought a hard hitting brawling cage match. Not a lot of blood or anything, but a lot of just straight chops, suplexes and Sting flying off the top rope a lot. Good overall main event, but a little old school for many tastes.

Halloween Havoc 1989 Overall rating: 8 out 10

The best part of this show was the U.S. Title match, alongside the Steiners and the Samoan Swat Team. This type of wrestling was far and away better than the WWF product at the time, that’s for sure. I had a blast with this one, and the crowd reactions are the best with this. The crowd was distinctly involved with all the matches, and the main event had them going absolutely insane.

I recommend buying Halloween Havoc 1989 on VHS, because it's unedited. If you see it on the network, the music, and some of the signs, and broadcast has been edited for time, and WWE's only standards! Click here to get the UNEDITED version.

WCW Bash At The Beach 97 Results and Review

We go back to 1997 to one of the premier pay per view events from WCW. This was in Daytona Beach, Florida and the audience was about 8,000 strong. I primarily wanted to watch and review this one because it had the Kevin Sullivan retirement match, and that retirement would send WCW into a tailspin, because he would be part of the booking committee of WCW. It was a few years later that Sullivan would get the full booking position and would cause Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko, and Chris Benoit to quit WCW completely and jump to WWE. However, this match had a LOT of great matches, and if you have the network watch it or buy the DVD version and see it unedited.

Buy WCW Bash At The Beach 97 on VHS by Clicking Here

First we’ll go into the match review and then the results completely in a list.

Mortis and Wrath defeated Glacier and Ernest Miller

Not a bad opener, a bit short, but not bad overall. Mortis was the stand out here. Miller and Glacier were ok, but it was Mortis that stood out to me. You may remember that Mortis is just Kanyon with a mask on. He really was innovative and fluid in the ring during this one. Mortis and Wrath won this match up, and it was nice to see it, the crowd wasn’t into it as much though.

Chris Jericho defeated Ultimate Dragon

Jericho was the cruiser weight champion in this match up. This match was definitely a great one. Ultimate Dragon and Jericho were wrestling like a chess match. Every move was deliberate, every element was well timed and fluid. You will be surprised how great these two work together, and the move set put into place. Jericho was impressive, but it was Ultimate Dragon’s moonsault and reversals that will have you completely in awe. Why his WWE run didn’t go over so well is beyond me.

The Steiner Brothers defeated The Great Muta and Masahiro Chono

This was a hard hitting match. Chono and Muta are great to a botchy Steiner Brothers team. There were moments where the Steiners no sold the Japanese offense, which was stupid to me. Otherwise, this was a good match because of Chono and Muta putting on a showcase. Look for Muta’s huricanrana off the top rope on Scott Steiner, and Rick Steiner’s bulldog to make an appearance.

Juventud Guerrera, Hector Garza, and LIzmark Jr. defeated La Parka, Psychosis, and Villano IV

This took on a slow start, but it was the process of going through the spots that really made this one incredible. Guerrera was on point, Garza’s corkscrew plancha, and Lizmark’s athleticism were impressive. La Parka and Psychosis put on some great moments too. Villano switched with his partner Number 5 and that was interesting. Overall, this was a great lucha match, and no one botched, which made this one even more impressive. The crowd was not into this one, but that’s ok, I guess.

Chris Benoit defeated The Taskmaster Kevin Sullivan

This was a retirement match for Sullivan. This match was the main reason why I wanted to watch this event. Benoit and Sullivan put on a brawl, a serious brawl that featured Jacqueline, and Jimmy Hart getting into the mix. Benoit was essentially fighting 3 different people here. Sullivan and Benoit even had some stiff shots, not usually seen in pro wrestling. Eventually, Jacqueline turned on Sullivan and Benoit got the pin. Sullivan of course would eventually drive Benoit and others to the WWE as he became full booking agent at WCW. But this match is good, well worth checking out. It’s not as good as their match at The Great American Bash 1996, but it’s certainly one of the best of their set.

Jeff Jarrett defeated Steve “Mongo” McMichael

This was for the US Title, and the crowd was so alive it was funny. The Jarrett Sucks chant was about as loud as any crowd you’ll ever hear in your life. Jeff Jarrett really got heat in this match. Mongo was good, the hard hitting style of his offense meshed well with Jarrett’s scared champion stick. However, it was Debra that really made this one, as she got involved and cost McMichael the match. A short one, but the crowd was way into it, so it was fun to watch.

Scott Hall and Randy Savage defeated Diamond Dallas Page and Curt Hennig

This was supposed to be a mystery partner match up for DDP. You may not know this, but DDP and Savage were going through a feud, and after Savage hurt page’s rib cage, DDP got his revenge dressed as La Parka on Nitro. Well, the secret partner was Curt Hennig, and that went well until a misunderstanding led Curt to walk out on his partner. DDP took a beating, a serious beating that was definitely something to see. Savage broke Page in half with the elbow after an Outsider’s edge, and that was that. If you want to see some hard hitting pro wrestling, this match has it for you, wow.

Roddy Piper defeated Ric Flair

This was entertaining, but you may have already seen this match over and over again. Flair is always entertaining to watch. Piper and the crowd were way into this one, and while it was mostly a brawl, it did have good action for 13 minutes’ worth of wrestling. It’s this type of wrestling that I sometimes miss from today’s landscape. If you like Piper and Flair, this is definitely a stand out match for the night.

Lex Luger and The Giant defeated Hollywood Hogan and Dennis Rodman

This was not a technical masterpiece at all. However, when you watch pro wrestling, you have to sometimes gauge things by crowd reaction. In this case, the crowd was going absolutely nuts for this one. The reason being, the psychology of the match. Rodman was teaming with Hogan, and he didn’t start the match. However, when he finally made his appearance, the timing and the suspense hit an all new level. Not only that, the expectations were that he didn’t know how to wrestle at all. When he first hip tosses Luger the crowd goes absolutely ballistic, and the announce team sells it so well, that you have nothing but respect for the guy. Now, when he does a shoulder block and Luger goes down rolling into the corner, things go insane again. Of course, he gets his, but this is the kind of reaction that WWE can’t seem to find in 2015, and why this is such a stellar match, even though it’s not a technical masterpiece. At the end, the Fake Sting (NWO) shows up, and hits The Giant with a baseball bat, the ref is bumped, and out comes Nick Patrick to get the submission off of Hogan in a torture rack. By the time the match is over, the trash from the crowd fills the ring, and the night is done. The crowd reaction makes this one, and that’s why you have to see it. Get the unedited version on vhs, it’s way better.

WCW Starrcade 1983 Review

Starting today until I am done. I will be reviewing every single PPV and supercard that I have in my collection starting from 1983 forward. I will also be updating HULU Raw reviews, Smack down reviews and more. I will be watching WrestleMania as well. Strap in, for the second coming of this blog.

Starrcade 1983
November 24, 1983
Greensboro, North Carolina
A Flair For The Gold

The first ever PPV from WCW right? I don’t know. I got this tape a long time ago, back before any DVD had it. It’s an interesting difference to see things on tapes, but that’s what happens. Starrcade has always been an interesting PPV source for me. My favorite of course is 1998, but I’m in the extreme minority on that one. This showcase I saw again with new eyes and wow, there are some highlights and some low moments as well.

The Assassins defeated Rufus R. Jones and Bugsy McGraw

Heavy hitting match, nice frenetic pace. Very entertaining back and forth. The Assassins took a lot of bumps to make this match go forward. Some minor botches, but great overall back and forth action. The crowd was really into the highs and lows of this match up. The Masked Assassins won out of nowhere. This wasn't an emphatic win like you would expect from a well-oiled tag team. It seemed rushed towards the finish, but that's old school for you. The Assassins win in non-dramatic fashion. Not a bad match, not a great one. I liked the pacing here, it was classic tag team action.

Kevin Sullivan and Mark Lewin defeated Scott McGhee and Johnny Weaver

Wow, a YOUNG Kevin Sullivan. That's right, the task master was featured in this match. Other than that, this was a mediocre offering. It was short at least. This was definitely not a great match at all.

Abdullah the Butcher defeated Carlos Colon

This was just a brawl. Nothing technical here. Abdullah pulled out a foreign object, Carlos stole it, the ref took a bump, and that was that. A short brawl that ended in an interference and that was that. The announcers kept saying that this was banned in Puerto Rico. Nothing too fun here. It was rushed.

Bob Orton Jr. and Dick Slater defeated Mark Youngblood and Wahoo McDaniel

This was an interesting brawl of sorts. It lasted a good 14 minutes, and it was cool to see the Chief in there mixing it up. Bob Orton flopped like no other, and Dick Slater had some hard hitting moments. This was not a great match, but the crowd was into it, so it made it a bit better.

Charlie Brown defeated Great Kabuki (NWA Television Championship Match)

This was a slow prodding match up. However, Charlie Brown’s entertainment was great. Kabuki was ok, but he was slowed down by the pacing of Brown at times. This 10 minute match really highlighted what the TV title was about, if you recall that championship.

Roddy Piper defeated Greg Valentine (Dog Collar Match)

This is a frenzied and definitive brawl. Piper injured his ear in this one. The chains they used back then were not gimmicks. They were tight chains and they looked heavy. Whether the guys were blading or not, Piper bled hard in the ear. I don’t think that was by accident. The ear looked immensely messed up. This was a great brawl, and as hardcore as you’re going to get in 1983.

Ricky Steamboat and Jay Youngblood defeated The Brisco Brothers (NWA Tag Team Championship)

Angelo Mosca as ref was really cool in this one. The young guys really took on the Briscos. I will say this much about the Brisco Brothers, they can bump like crazy. They were flying around getting trashed by Steamboat and Youngblood. This was a nice classic tag title match with the faces going over after some nice tandem moves.

Ric Flair defeated Harley Race (NWA Heavyweight Championship)

Gene Kiniski was the guest referee on this one. The match was a slow moving one, but that was standards for Flair back then. Race was a beast back then, and he really manhandles Flair on several occasions. Kiniski took a mean ref bump at one point. Race loses, Flair gets praised, everyone goes home happy. This is a classic old school match, but at 23 minutes, it’s a bit boring.

Overall, Starrcade 1983 is a good PPV for those that love classic wrestling. It really is something to behold. It’s even more interesting to read the WIKI page here. I liked it enough. There were some nice touches here and there, but overall, this isn’t my favorite Starrcade.

There are several ways that you can enjoy Starrcade 1983. You can CLICK HERE and find some tapes and DVDs on it. Or you can get the WWE network and watch it. It's up to you.

Rare Wrestling Finds: Halloween Havoc 89 VHS

halloween havoc 1989

This week's rare wrestling find has me looking through amazon to search for a good copy of WCW Halloween Havoc 1989 on vhs. This was never released on dvd, and it is relatively rare. I know a lot of people didn't watch WCW because it was not WWF or WWE, but the late 80's and mid 90's stuff was awesome. I promise it's worth the investment.

The matches that occurred at Halloween Havoc 1989 live from the Philadelphia Civic Center featured many old stars, including:

Tom Zenk defeated Mike Rotunda

The Samoan Swat Team (Samu, Fatu and The Samoan Savage) defeated The Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton and Stan Lane) and Steve Williams (with Jim Cornette)

Tommy Rich defeated The Cuban Assassin

The Freebirds (Jimmy Garvin and Michael Hayes) defeated The Dynamic Dudes (Shane Douglas and Johnny Ace) (with Jim Cornette)

Doom (Ron Simmons and Butch Reed) (with Woman) defeated The Steiner Brothers (Rick and Scott)

Lex Luger defeated Brian Pillman

The Road Warriors (Hawk and Animal) (with Paul Ellering) defeated The Skyscrapers (Sid Vicious and Dan Spivey) (with Teddy Long)

Ric Flair and Sting (with Ole Anderson) defeated The Great Muta and Terry Funk (with Gary Hart) (with Bruno Sammartino as special guest referee) in a Thunderdome match

You can purchase this vhs by clicking here.

TNA Impact 11/18/10 Results and Review

TNA Impact 11/18/10 Results

Robbie E and Cookie & Generataion Me defeated Velvet Sky & Jay Lethal & The Motor City Machine Guns
Samoa Joe defeated Jeff Jarrett's MMA School
Jeff Hardy defeated Raven
Abyss vs Shannon Moore (no contest)
Mickie James defeated Angelina Love
Matt Morgan defeated Ric Flair

TNA Impact 11/18/10 Review

Ric Flair went down to the ring and started cutting a promo against Matt Morgan. Morgan and Flair will face off in the main event tonight. So much for that retirement angle for Flair, huh?

Robbie E and Cookie & Generataion Me defeated Velvet Sky & Jay Lethal & The Motor City Machine Guns

This match wasn't exactly very good, it was kind of short. The match was booked so quick that by the time the match played out, you didn't even know what was going on anymore, just a bunch of high spots. I think Jay Lethal was in this match somewhere too....I don't know...such an oddly booked match up.

Jeff Jarrett came down to the ring and did a MMA style gimmick where he was showing "submission" moves against some random idiots.

Samoa Joe then came out and Double J told him that he had to fight some random students.

Samoa Joe defeated Jeff Jarrett's MMA School

Worst match ever.

Jeff Hardy defeated Raven

I used to be the biggest Raven fan. But this match? One of the worst in his career. Hardy barely broke a sweat with his glorified Divas title. Hardy won, that's all you needed to know. Raven is a shell of his former self. Raven circa 1998 and even his WWE run was awesome, this though? Just terrible, completely terrible.

Hogan came out and FIRED Raven. That was that. Raven got fired.

Tommy Dreamer and Rhino fought, then RVD came out and they brawled. I don't care, you don't care.

Abyss vs Shannon Moore (no contest)

One of the worst matches ever. Shannon Moore tried to put on an ok match, but Abyss made this match suck. There was a casket at ringside, and inside the Casket was The Pope! Yep. The Pope interfered and the match was thrown out, that was that. ABYSS sucks, The Pope is now a joke, and Shannon Moore is just getting a pay check at this point. I'm so sick of this company's bad wrestling.

Mickie James defeated Angelina Love

Mickie James sucks. Angelina Love sucks too. I miss the old Knockouts division.

Bubba Ray cut a random promo, it was dumb

Matt Morgan defeated Ric Flair

This match was bad. Ric Flair was completely busted open, Matt Morgan just killed him. It looked bad, it just look completely bad. The ref was knocked out at one point, and eventually counted the three count on Flair.

Douglas Williams turned on Fortune or whatever group he's in. Doug started fighting everyone and that was the end of impact.

TNA Impact 10/14/10 Results

Madison Rayne defeated Tara for the knockouts title
Fortune defeated The Pope
Samoa Joe defeated Abyss via dq
RVD vs Ken Anderson (no contest)

TNA Impact 10/14/10 Review

TNA tried to pull a WCW 1996 on the ppv, and you know what? It was one of the biggest lackluster things in a long time, and NO i'm not just jaded on wrestling, it's agreed upon across a lot of podcasts, and wrestling websites.

Abyss, Hogan, Double J and Jarrett all cut promos to start the show off.

They kept talking, but out came Fortune. Flair started to cut a promo about how Fortune is running things.

Flair and Hogan were set to square off, and instead of fighting they hugged! Yep. Fortune is now part of "THEY" too. Wow...so stupid.

OUt came Jeff Hardy, the champ....mind you this is 20 minutes into the show, and no wrestling. Hardy cut a promo, and he didn't have a lot of paint on or anything.

Out came Sting and Kevin Nash.

Kevin Nash got on the mic and cut a "nice guy" promo and said that this time he's NOT going to join "THEY" and just walk away.

Sting got on the mic, and he cut a "nice guy" promo too. Sting walked away too. They just left.

Bischoff got on the mic and said that Sting and Nash would be at home getting FAT, and that's that. 30 minutes of the show was dedicated to "THEY" going off. I remember this same angle 10 years back or so....called the NEW WORLD ORDER. Yep.

Backstage Dixie was asking Sting & Nash to stay, but they walked out. Hogan and Bischoff then confronted Dixie and she slapped the crap out of Bischoff!!!! Wow...backstage...Dixie gave her best performance, and Hogan totally talked her down! Wow. Compelling? Not really, but eh, whatever, I'll take what I can get.

Dixie was thrown out of Hogan's office, and Serj (Dixie's husband) got knocked the EFF out! Hahah. 35 minutes into the show, still no wrestling.

Madison Rayne defeated Tara for the knockouts title

In a "finger poke" of doom match, Tara gave up the belt. Tara laid down for Madison Rayne.

Dare I say, 40 minutes into the show and still NO wrestling.

Mickie James came out and challenged Madison...yawns ensued.

45 minutes and no wrestling.

Kurt Angle came down and cut a promo.

Kurt Angle then got beat down by Double J after he came out and cut a promo on Angle. Angle was handcuffed and beaten and battered, and that was that. Tazz came off the booth and helped Angle, and that was that. Angle's done...Double J has a ruthless streak? That's that...bye bye Angle...I hope he goes to WWE and feuds with the All American, American, American, American, American.

52 minutes and NO wrestling.

We get to see Samoa Joe walking around some beach. He cut a promo on Double J.

So 50+ minutes before we finally get a wrestling match, if you can call it that.

Samoa Joe defeated Abyss via dq

This wasn't much of a match, it was just Abyss dominating Samoa Joe for the most part. Joe did manage an insane move by diving through the middle ropes and taking out Abyss, but other than that, it was just Abyss beating up Samoa Joe. Joe won via dq, and that prompted RVD to come out. Abyss then beat up JOe. But RVD saved the day...kind of.

Ugh...what a terrible night of wrestling.

RVD cut a promo on Hardy. Ugh....

Fortune defeated The Pope

The Pope fought all of Fortune. It's interesting to me that Fortune cheated to win, 5 on 1. Whatever. The Pope got buried, and that's that. I didn't hate the match, and I'm ok with a 5 on 1 beat down, I just wish there was more wrestling on the show.

The Shore had a promo with some chick from the real show...nothing I remembered happened there.

RVD vs Ken Anderson (no contest)

Anderson and RVD put on an ok match for tv. There were some nice reversals from Anderson, but the crowd wasn't at all into this match up. RVD looked winded after 5 or so minutes, and that's just sad. Anderson carried most of the match, even countering the Five Star Frog Splash and Rolling THunder, but it was painfully obvious that this match wasn't going to get a finish...yet again.

Bischoff came down, pulled the ref, and out ran Jeff Hardy. Hardy beat up Anderson and RVD with a chair. Yep. That'sit.

The last moment was awesome.

Hardy hit a Twist of Fate on RVD onto a chair that had Anderson's arm in it. SICK finisher!

TNA is terrible, the non finish matches, the 1 hour of setting up the second half of the show...NO x-division match, no tv title match, no tag team titles match...geez...why even have a wrestling show?

Oh and WHO KIDNAPPED SAMOA JOE??!?!?!?

TNA Impact 10/7/10 Results

Angelina Love & Velvet Sky defeated Tara & Madison Rayne
Mick Foley defeated Ric Flair in a hardcore match
Orlando Jordan & Erik Young defeated Ink Inc
Kurt Angle wins a battle royal (on reaction, not impact)

TNA Impact 10/7/10 Review

The show this week opened up fast with Dixie being yelled at by Abyss. This was a very awkward opening, that looked like Abyss was going to rape Dixie Carter....this was just very awkward.

This was a live show....I guess.

Sting came out with Kevin Nash and the Pope. The Pope cut a promo, and then out came Jarrett and Joe and blah blah blah.....Eric Bischoff set up a match for Bound for Glory. Look for Samoa Joe to turn on Double J...

Mickie James showed up at TNA! I didn't mark out, that's for sure.

Angelina Love & Velvet Sky defeated Tara & Madison Rayne

This match was for the name "The Beautiful People", and it was one of the worst matches I've ever seen. This is a travesty, considering that a few years back TNA had one of the best women's divisions I've ever seen. Angelina Love wins.

Ms. Testmaker or whatever....was talking about Bound for Glory and how there will be a 4 way dance for the Women's Title. The special guest referee for that match is none other than Mickie James! Yep. Mickie James has come to TNA...wow...she's looking good, but it's sad that she won't have much competition.

Mick Foley defeated Ric Flair

This match was sad. Seriously, I was just sad to see this BS. Foley, way past his prime, Flair way past his time, in a hardcore match? There were some sick bumps, and both men were bleeding like crazy, which was sick. I'm all for these guys in their prime, but this was NOT 2 men in the prime of their careers, this was two old men fighting in a battle for nothing. This was not a pretty sight, it was NOT a wrestling match as much as it was a complete and terrible brawl of sorts. The kid inside me was going nuts, but the adult, was just shaking his head. I am NOT a fan of seeing these guys kill each other, it just doesn't mean anything, especially with so many others on the roster that could be utilized here. Flair lost via 10 count? I don't know, this was stupid...this was completely stupid.

Orlando Jordan and Erik Young cut a weird promo...their a team now? I haven't seen them since Young threw a mannequin into the ring.

There's not enough coffee in the world to wake me up for this piece of garbage....

Orlando Jordan & Erik Young defeated Ink Inc

This match sucked. This match was just stupid. Erik Young was doing everything to ruin the match, he was stopping Orlando Jordan from cheating. This match sucked...Erik Young sucks. Orlando sucks....ugh...nevermind. Worst tag team match ever.

Wow...what a terrible idea....Shore aka Robbie E debuts...I can't believe this bs....this is seriously the worst idea in pro-wrestling.

There was a Battle Royal that resembled the Royal Rumble at the end of this impact, and it ran over time. It was STUPID! I do NOT watch reaction, and well....that was that. WHo won?

Um...let me see here...Moe. Moe wins.

I hate TNA.

TNA Impact 8/5/10 Results and Review

TNA Impact 8/5/10 Results

Taylor Wilde & Hamada defeated The Beautiful People
AJ Styles defeated Rob Terry
The Motor City Machine Guns defeated Beer Money in an Destination X match
The Pope defeated Orlando Jordan
Ric Flair defeated Jay Lethal
Abyss & Raven vs Tommy Dreamer & RVD

TNA Impact 8/5/10 Review

Ugh...TNA started with a recap of last week and I was already tired of TNA. I've been doing a LOT of terrible wrestling and somehow, I have to deal with it all the time..nevermind, I was going to rant, but eh, no one cares.

The show opened up with the recap than went into Tommy Dreamer calling out Raven. He asked Raven why he beat up Dreamer.

The whole storyline is that Tommy Dreamer stole Raven's Girlfriend and that's it. He went on about how he was going to screw Dreamer's wife, and the two brawled on top of the stage while Abyss and RVD came out and wrestled. Foley came out with a barbed wire bat to the stomach.

Foley said that he was going to be the special guest referee for the night.

Is it just me or is Taz just phoning it in? He looked like he wasn't even trying tonight, and of course, he sucks.

I'm tired of this stuff...FIRE ALL THE TNA WRITERS!

Taylor Wilde & Hamada defeated The Beautiful People

I like Taylor Wilde, I think she'd be cool to hang out with and...uh...nevermind. Hamada can wrestle, so I was hoping for big things from this match for once. Lacey Von Erich is the WORST of the knockouts. No one could carry her, and Hamada was having a hard time wrestling a terribly rookie. Velvet Sky is my least favorite of the Beautiful People. The motorcycle woman came down and helped the beautiful people by giving lacey von erich a steel chair, but it was Taylor Wilde that kicked the chair into Von Erich and that was that. New champions!

AJ Styles defeated Rob Terry

The television title was defended here, and Styles was hitting hard, but not as hard as Terry. I like Terry, he's a nice counter what is now the standard "wrestling body" and a nice throwback to the 80's. Terry was throwing Aj Styles around like a rag doll, and it was good. After some cheating tactics the former World Champion hit the 450 Splash and won the match. Where is Orlando Jordan? I thought he was feuding with Rob Terry? Oh well.

The Motor City Machine Guns defeated Beer Money in an Destination X match

I didn't like this match. Yes, they put on quite a show, but come on! It's cookie cutter and you KNEW who was going to win. I'm sick of seeing this stupid crap. I'm tired of watching high spots and no psychology, and while I like both teams, I don't want to see them wrestle each week. At least not each other. I need something NEW! PLEASE!

Bischoff and Hogan came out and ran down the card for next week, which was boring. Out came Kevin Nash and beat up Hogan. That prompted Jeff Jarrett to come out and beat up Kevin Nash. That prompted STING to come out in Red Makeup and he used the bat on Jarrett. Sting hit Hogan in the head with a chair. Jarrett was knocked out. The announcers kept talking about how the Wolfpack is back, NWO WOLFPACK...I don't care...I'm sick of these storylines.

The Pope defeated Orlando Jordan

Orlando Jordan finally is getting a shot at wrestling, instead of just freaking everyone out. The Pope was fighting well, while Orlando Jordan was doing his normal weirdo wrestling moves. The Pope eventually got the upper hand thanks to Erik Young. Erik Young ran down to the ramp and started picking up all the money that dropped from the ceiling. The Dinero Express was hit and that was that, the Pope wins.

This makes no dang sense to me. Pope is a franchise TNA player and they could make him into a major ratings draw, but nope. Matt Morgan sneak attacked him and that prompted Anderson to run down to the ring with a chair, and that was that. I'm tired of TNA and their dumb writing, FIRE ALL THE TNA WRITERS!

Ric Flair defeated Jay Lethal

This was embarrassing. I can't believe that Lethal would for this. This is a spectacle. Flair and Lethal fought in a street fight. I kid you not. Lethal in Jeans and Flair in his suit gets completely dismembered. This was sad. Flair wrestled Lethal in his underwear at one point! YES! In his underwear! Flair was busted open and was bleeding like a stuck pig. Flair, with one shoe, one sock and his underwear was fighting what appeared to be a much smarter Lethal. Thanks to Douglas Williams knocking out Lethal, Flair wins, bleeding all over the ring all over Lethal, and wow...This is sad, but you know what? The 12 year old in me was marking out like crazy.

Raven & Abyss vs Rob Van Dam & Tommy Dreamer (no contest?)

This match was terrible. Dreamer can barely work with his bum knee. RVD was ok, and Abyss was ok. Raven was a non issue. The end of this match featured 1/2 of the old ECW roster come into the ring and start beating up Abyss. The Gore got stopped, and out came 3-D! They were ready to hit 3-D but out came Raven with a chair and stopped it all. I used to love Raven, but he just looks fat now. Bring back the normal hair and lose some weight!

The lights went out completely and in the ring was The SANDMAN! AKA HAK! SANDMAN went to town with the Kendo stick! Sandman hasn't aged a bit! SANDMAN IS IN TNA!!! BUT WHO CARES? FIRE ALL THE TNA WRITERS! FIRE ALL THE WHATEVER FIRE EVERYONE! SOMEONE PLEASE STOP THIS STUPIDITY!

The show ended with everyone in ring celebrating...I'm so sick of TNA right now...I'll have a Hardcore Justice review coming Monday...So tired.
