WWE 24/7 Presents: WCW Great American Bash 1988
This was a great day for the WCW fans because in a sold out arena of 14,000 and a world wide ppv audience, The Great American Bash came to town. Since I have WWE 24/7 I was excited, and instead of reviewing every little aspect of this one, I had to comment on the ridiculousness of the match that was "The Tower of Doom"
There are three cages, like in the 1996 match where Hogan and Savage beat up 9 guys to win the Tower of Doom match.
10 Men enter one by one on the top of the cage, and every couple minutes they are let in to a larger cage, then into the ring surrounding by another cage! Three stories of mayhem.
The top cage is so small though that you can only throw a punch. So people flood into the second cage immediately following the opening.
After they reach the first cage a participant is let out of the cage and after all 4 members of his team are let out, that team wins!
Sounds like a convoluted war games match up, and well...it most certainly is. The participants were:
The Road Warriors (Hawk and Animal), Steve Williams, Jimmy Garvin and Ron Garvin (w/Precious) vs. Kevin Sullivan, Mike Rotunda, Al Perez, The Russian Assassin and Ivan Koloff (w/Gary Hart)
The match is ridiculous and the gimmick is funny. The overall match up was very interesting, hearing Jim Ross & Tony Schiavone on commentary, but the match was just lame.
The rest of the card was good though and had the following:
NWA World Tag Team Champions Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard (w/James J. Dillon) vs. Sting and Nikita Koloff NWA Tag Team Championship
The Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton and Stan Lane) (w/Jim Cornette) vs. The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton and Tommy Rogers)NWA United States Tag Team Championship
Barry Windham (w/James J. Dillon) vs. Dusty Rhodes NWA United States Championship
Ric Flair (w/James J. Dillon) vs.Lex Luger Nwa Heavyweight Championship Match
Overall WWE 24/7 brings a classic card and ppv from the library of NWA & WCW
Here's the match from youtube...
